fantastic! I grew up in London, it was great having the wonderful continuity announcers to welcome us every day - Tom/Phillip/Peter et al. TV is rubbish now, bring back Thames and in vision announcers! Thank you Tom
I am blushing all those kind comments..thankyou. Still in touch with David Hamilton..we've been mates for about 40 years now.
One night at Thames we lost all sources and I recall having to adlib for approx 6 minutes str8 to camera..no auto cue ..and AND I have a copy of it all thanks to some enterprising engineer in VT.
You folk are so kind with your comments and for keeping the memories of us in vision announcers alive..
Is that really the legendary Tom Edwards? I remember one breakdown where you read out most of the contents from the trusty TV Times it went on so long! I miss Thames - it was like a cherished old pal, and the continuity from Tom, Philip and Peter was wonderful, warm and chatty. What true pros! Happy New Year Tom.
Hi there!!!! I used to live in the London area and used to watch your announcements and thought that you were absolutely superb and were very easy to take seriously. A true professional and I think somebody much-missed now ITV is in the state that it's in, having gone from rack to ruin. Nobody could match your standards. Thanks for entertaining me and others whilst I lived in the Thames area. Merry Christmas Tom.
Hi Tom, I too grew up watching you, Peter Marshall and Philip Elsmore introducing the likes of Rainbow and Blockbusters, always with a smile and just the right amount of padding to fit the timeslot! Somewhere out there is a clip of you filling a mammouth gap by reading out pages and pages of your "Trusty TV Times"... ending with a mighty relieved "and now, about time too..." - and still you didn't lose your cool! Such a pro. I hope it surfaces once again... and I too wish you a Merry Christmas!
Superbly handled by Tom Edwards. It takes skill to ad lib your way through a breakdown like that. His background of DJ on the offshore radio stations in the 60s will have given him plenty of practice in getting out of situations where things go wrong.
Tom Edwards should have been knighted!!

My ears must be going with old age, but did he really say..
"They're flashing me next door..."
I'm surprised the Daily Mail didn't kick up a stink about that off-screen nudity like they did over the whole John Barrowman affair
