  • iam dutch and in my language MONGOL means retarded

  • As an American I have a deep respect for Japanese culture.

  • It's incredible that 24 generations of sword smiths of the same family have been doing that.

  • @StinkyKnobcheese Yup cool stuff... we have nothing like that today.

  • people lets just respect each other's culture and put the past aside, or course there is still this small rivalry and somewhat we have these sensitive emotion with one another- but right now I am here to see Japan's culture and how the Samurai developed. Please stop embarrassing yourself and just watch this document :)

  • For some reason I find this stuff really interesting.... Thnx for posting it!

  • anywayi have respect for Samurai! In order to win in a battle, other than having strong worriors, it needs to have a strong tactics

  • Vietnamese have kicked mongols ass three times! u guys d better shut the hell up what worriors are stronger and better!

  • @augustus1112 Please do work on your spelling, grammar and overall linguistic skill of English before trying to be taken seriously. I personally have a great love and respect for all Asian nations. They each have something valuable to learn.

  • mongols faild 2 take japanese and vietnamese only ! !

  • @inouelenhatduy Yeah but not becuse of the Samurai, Bad weather fucked things up for em, If the Mongols had reached mainland japan, Then goodbye samurai.

  • @NordenHonor nah

  • @NordenHonor Note that one of the people mentioned that the storm "...did not bring about their (the mongols) defeat, only finalized it." The walls meant that the Mongols could not attack in proper force or formation, allowing the samurai to quickly gain an advantage and overwhelm the troops as they came ashore. The walls stopped the Mongols from attacking, because they knew that being funneled into a small landing point would be absolutely insane.

  • @skyfiller12

Mongols definitely conquered Korea, and even placed a Mongol princess on the throne, to symbolize the vassaldom of Goryeo.

  • Argh, i can't watch this, why the fuck do they take in western historians to talk about Asian history, yes maybe the are experts but it still feels like they are all Japanese wannabes.

  • @skyfiller12 Samurai never conquered shit(korea).but japan ruled korea for 35 years....zzzzzzzz

  • i want a sword made by that man

  • Its an honor just to have the Japanese living on this planet. Such an honorable people.

    Take note.

  • 04:40 that's the first fat japanese i've seen (excluding sumo-ringers)!

  • so what is the sword of today warriors ? money, wisdom...but wait - wisdom to make money ?

  • RIP Kensho Furuya Sensei

  • Lol the Koreans were like ceebs helping the Mongols :D

  • skyfiller12 is mad korean liar

  • cool when others family in japan have history of hundred of years and become national treasure..I even don't know who my great grand father..hmmmm

  • lol. Transcribe Audio is funny.

  • the real samurai actually differed little from the lansknechts or the knights of medieval Europe. They were the usual professional soldiers with all their advantages and disadvantages. However, the myth about themselves, they created a really beautiful. What was able to survive the samurai themselves more than a hundred years.

  • Katana. The most Legendary blade of All time.

  • Long Live The Katana!

  • Americans never can give anyone credit but themselves.Pathetic

  • Mongols could crush them if they were not separated by the sea :(

  • @Yotta1983 Yet the Mongols was crushed when they went to Vietnam on land >:P

  • I think their sources are better than yours

  • I think their sources are better than yours

  • 元寇 (Mongol invasion) actually happened but the main forces of both invasions consisted of Koreans. The Korean dynasty at the time contrived the plan to invade Japan and got permission and help from Khan. Koreans were scums from the past. They always use other's power and milk other's wealth like a leech.

I was surprised that American historians really explained about Kamikaze as if it really wiped out the invasion troops. They should tell about scientific research, not folktale.

  • lol, Mongols can't beat the Samurais to save their lives.

  • Khan was a fatass fucker 0:10

  • Some samurai armour was made of leather yes, scales of thick leather called Kozane laced together but most armour were made of metal, a sort of lamelar armour, first laced but later on rivited together.

  • Great animation lol

Wow I want a sword made for me :D So much disipline in the making

  • @OHWADAKUNAI the samurais didn't hav metallic armors and breastplates until the Spanish and Portuguese came to Japan in the beginning of the 17th century.

  • @termometen not true, they had steel plates in there armor long before that.

  • @KyokushinTruth Not of what I have heard. only the helmets, but I don't know. You might be right :D

  • @termometen small plates of steel tucked in underneath the silk laquer. The Helmet was made of Iron.

  • @termometen You learned that lies where?

  • @syokusyusyoujyo I have many different sources, but you might be right.from what I've heard they mainly had leather armors or how to say. that also made them more flexible when fighting. but as I said before, you might be right. I really didn't mean to upset you :'D

  • @syokusyusyoujyo and besides. where do you get your facts from? I'm just curious.

  • @termometen I think they put iron plates under their armor before the 17th century and the portuguese arrived in the mid 1500s not early 1600s.

  • The disipline displayed by the Japanese is so enthralling!! The perfection of any and every task truly inspires me

  • 2 weeks a long wait?

  • The Samurais prayed to Tom Cruize to defeat the Mongols.

  • it is a matter of strategic location,if Japan was not seperated to Mongolia and China by Sea then it will be easy for the Mongols to Crush them, the problem where the Mongols fail was by just going into Japan they face many Weather Problems such as Stormy Rains and other problems like lack of Things like Weapons,Food,Armor and some of their Supplies were destroyed or worned out by the weather........imagine how the Mongols near wiped out half of Russia's population and even reaching the Holy Land

  • Any one have better info and links to the history of samurai shinobi/ninjas and Asian monks?

  • this is what i have read several times. some people will say different, but it is what it is. the first wave never passed the beaches and the second didn't even make them. thanx for the post.

  • poor china :( firts mongols then gringos :(

  • @xhirtam could be worse, could be gingers...

  • Mongol Invasions arent historicaly correct in this documentary in fact Japanese hold the Mongol Invasion in Second Invasion and First Invasion the mongols were more sucefull but never manage to achieve victory it wasnt only the storms that saved Japan but Japanese themselfs

  • @ImperialGuard9001 They invaded China silly NOT japan and they were victorious many times at one time a large part of china was ruled my Mongolia. BUT not japan only the USA ever claim victory and thats because we used a bomb.

  • @MrBrianJross What?! You dont even make sense with your writing and not only China was invaded by Mongosl Japan too altought they failed twice

  • @ImperialGuard9001 yr right i could have worded it better THEY tried but they succeeded in china but never got the job done in japan.. And wounder y it posted me twice??? i only posted once hummm.

  • @MrBrianJross well, we were bombing them from the air and shooting naval guns at them. so the end was close for Japan. but ya only country ever to take over Japan was the USA

  • @Dogmeat1950 Look how they got even tho 90% of all factories are own and ran by japan :( Then and China BOTH own our asses now...KARMA got us

  • @MrBrianJross you do know the USA is still the largest producer of goods right? china is 2nd Germany is 3rd

  • @Dogmeat1950 LOL come to INDIANA ALL our factories are jap owned EVEN Cummins Engine plan is 80% owned by japs the other is germans and a cpl other countries who own most the stock but ALL the factories here is Jap owned

  • @MrBrianJross that may be so. but i'm going on world data here.

  • @ImperialGuard9001 They invaded China silly NOT japan and they were victorious many times at one time a large part of china was ruled my Mongolia. BUT not japan only the USA ever claim victory and thats because we used a bomb. Mongol thought they were better BUT Japan as u her was alot better just took them a while

  • omg id never seen a fat asian before guys look at 4:44 omfg

  • @asgarnon never seen Sumo ?

  • The samurai could afford metallic armor, but i haven't heard of many ashigaru units equipped with metallic armor. The arquebusiers during the Sengoku Jidai might have been given a rough chest plate made of cheap metal every now and then, but nothing more than that. Either wood or leather.

  • No wonder Japanese cars are the best in the whole wide world or anything coming from Japan is worth every penny of it's cost.

  • so deep i give his guys ratings

  • that sucks that the mongol didnt conquer japan

  • @malevolenceXXXensues no it was good

  • @1bol1 oh yea? if you say so

  • 神風

    Devind wind

  • At 6:45 anyone know where i can find the blacksmith, i would be interested in getting him to make a sword. Address please XD.

  • @theterminator99 Mate, Do you know how much one of those things cost? About $50,000. If you can afford it than go for it. It's azmaing how hard it is to make them. It takes about 4 days in heat before they even start pounding it. It's fucking amazing!!

  • @Rebelass74 I just want to find the guy, honestly i would pay that much but i tried to searc his name in google, i thinks its yamamura tsunahiro. I cant find any recent address. If this is a family thats been making swords for that long, then the swords he'll be making will be legit and worth it.

  • Kamakura warriors, the army and won a total of more than 170,000 Allied troops in Korea and China and Mongolia.

  • World War II, "Kamikaze" is the origin of this kamikaze.

Was created to protect against foreign invasion.

  • 5:55 I touched the screen and it cuts my finger D:

  • 2:15 typical white dude into asian culture and asian woman : ) hahahaha.

  • meditate underneth a water fall for 100 days in the winter time dudes got balls i'll give him that

  • WOW!!!

  • I wish he'd make a sword for me. I'd be amazed that the smith was an ancestor of an another smith 700 years ago is still here to make that sword for me.

  • Amazing, a family making swords for about 750 years.

  • @alpha8147 and I love how the guys do a blue-collar job in white, what looks to be silk clothes.

  • @alpha8147 wow that is cool!!!

  • @alpha8147 More amazing is that Masamune's blades were said to be divinely blessed. The warrior who wielded a Masamune katana was supposedly unbeatable. Which may explain why some of his swords have gone missing over the year.

  • @alpha8147 Many of the very same clans that existed during Sengoku Jidai still exits today. Like Takeda and Shimazu, to name a few. Clans are deeply ingrained in the Japanese social structure, unlike our Western world.

  • The real reason why its curved is because of the method of cooling >.>;

  • You seem to be somewhat educated on the subject, but I'm curious why you claim different reasons for the development of the katana than most historical accounts.. Are you saying that the greatest bladed weapon ever created was kind of an accident? Ive never heard that before.

  • "Also, metallic armor was non existant..."

    well......WHAT!?

There seem to be people spreading such nonsense in great numbers.

Why do they believe such a stupid lie?

There is an iron armor in Japan from the 5 century. they used the armor which stacked iron and boiled leather in turn to take in the shock of the arrow at the time in 10~13 century. The armor after the 14th century is almost iron and steel.

  • "Japanese Iron was of poor quality"

Oh, after all you do terrible misunderstanding.

Though there are a lot of Westerners saying such a thing, most of them do not understand Tamahagane.

They think "Japan does not have high quality iron ore, therefore Japanese iron is poor quality".

Study in a site of HitachiMetal making Tamahagane.

  • For example,O-yoroi(Akagawa-odoshi-yoroi) of the 12th century stored up by Okayama prefectural museum repeats a little Lame of the iron of the thickness of 1mm and leather Lame of the thickness of 4mm in turn.

In other words, all surface is covered by iron Lame and leather Lame double.

Furthermore, similar iron Lame is discovered by remains of the tenth century.

  • I watched a lot of such videos. As for such video, there are most cases, such a know-it-all in great numbers.

Why will such a lie spread without Japan?

They are not going to examine the Japanese inheritance.

  • The cause of such a misunderstanding will be because a Japanese armor was coated with a Urushi-lacquer and leather.

The people who got used to a Western armor will judge it from the surface materials.

  • they had som STEEL armor

  • "Also, metallic armor was non existant..."

In other words do you intend to insist that the armor of several thousand kept by a Japanese museum is an imitation!?

On earth who taught you such a stupid lie!?

  • I thought the middle part of the blade was hard steel to hold a better edge. ??

  • Intelligence is the flower of discrimination. There are many examples of the flower blooming but not bearing fruit.

No matter whether a person belongs to the upper or lower ranks, if he has not put his life on the line at least once he has cause for shame.

    Nabeshima Naoshige (1538-1618)

  • is there a way i can order masamune's sword online or do i ahve to go to japan to search for him to be able to buy a sword?

  • yep, lmao. I renember that battle in the show

  • this is soo interesting! thanks for posting :-)

  • No, core was soft steel and outer layer was hard high carbon steel, quenched in way that it contained quite much martensite structure. This made outer layer brittle, so softer back of the blade is needed to absorb part of the impact energy. The blade is covered with clay while it is quenched in way that edge has less clay so it quench more.

And all blades were folded steel. It is to get rid of impurities and to make carbon distribution even, so that blade doesnt have particular weak point.

  • because a flexible core kept the katana from shattering. A people that knew damascussing before the land of damascus. My husband studies Iaido and karate.

  • ahh ok.... it's the core. cuz im a material engineer and for a blade, u want it to be as hard as pissible so it stays sharp thru out combat

    thanks =)

  • being a material engineer does not mean you are a expert on swords

  • it is basic design tech for a sword to have a hard outer layer and a flixble core. chillax man, is one not even allowed to ask questions ?

  • I like how they work so hard to keep their past and heritage alive.

  • Priceless objects indeed

  • this image of a praying samurai 03:34 is awesome and if only i could have it...anyone knows where let me know

  • 神風

  • Kamikaze: Divine Winds.

  • masamune san, I know him, he has a brazillian sucessor named roberto.

  • its interesting, its a bit different for what i have read before on some points

  • So that's where the word "Kamikaze" came from. A tropical storm that defeated the mongols when they attempted to make another invasion in Japan. And to my understanding, Kamikaze in Japanese (神風) literally means "divine wind".

  • TOKIMUNE HOJOH!

  • The Roman military was will well equiped and well disciplined. Also, the origins of the European knight, are rooted in Byzantine cataphracti. It was from the Cataphract that other European soldiers got the idea of a generalized warrior "jack of all trades" who could do it all. Cataphracts were trained in archery, sword and spear fighting, from horse or foot, and THEY, came before knights, who did the same fucking thing.

  • You are talking about the Eastern Roman Empire (later called the Byzantine Empire)

I was talking about the western Romans Empire...

  • Still the same empire, but you have a point; the western roman empire's standards had lowered considerably, and I know that Attila and his Huns never penetrated Constantinople. It wasn't until the gunpowder age and walls were obsolete that Constantinople finally fell.

  • Well, actually the Knight is a parallel evolution of the Germanic Comitatus who, during a time of very limited communication started to adopt horses. This "cataphractoi" theory is disputed by the fact that the soldiers largely fought like Dragoons initially, and started to fight on horseback around the time of Charles Martel. There would not be enough communication during this time for such a widespread tactic to spread all over Europe.

  • Likewise, this method of fighting you describe, using swords, spears, and familiarity of archery is also a part of the Comitatus. They simply moved onto the horse and (largely) dropped the archery.

  • damn, I thought I was done arguing about this 3 weeks ago, what the hell was I talking about again?

  • The Romans been known to stop steppe warriors...

I think the Huns would be an inaccurate example... The Huns came at Rome's weakest point in there history!

But yet Attila was still defeated by General Flavius Aetius! :D

  • (Fixed) The army was almost like the Barbarians, LESS discipline, no were as professional, less armor, not as well equipped, and less organize!

  • "the Roman army Attila encountered, had better armor and better technology than earlier ones. In fact, most of the weaponry used in the middle eages was developed by the late Romans "

NO NO NO! Infect it is a big opposite! Wow you need to read up more history on arms and armor... What Attila encountered was no were near the Romans from the 25 BC to the 255 AD. The army was almost like the Barbarians, discipline, no were as professional, less armor, not as well equipped, and less organize!

  • KAMIKAZE!

  • what a fucking moron. the monguls almost conquered the then "known world" what did the romans do? conquer their selfs.

  • A single Roman legion was the most effective fighting force of antiquity. Regardless of the accomplishments of the Mongols, if a single Roman legion went against a single equivalent Mongol unit, I'm betting on the Romans.

  • Your all fucking morons the Romans weren't even around at this time.

  • I don't know, It would depend on the time period that they got sent back because at the time of Attila the empire was already falling apart.

  • The empire was falling apart, but the Roman army Attila encountered, had better armor and better technology than earlier ones. In fact, most of the weaponry used in the middle eages was developed by the late Romans, and later the Byzantine empire. European plate armor, that is, that head to foot body armor? That was actually invented by the Persians. The Byzantines modified and improved on the design, which was then taken to other parts of Europe, where it was modified and improved upon.

  • also, besides, the western Roman empire perhaps, but the legions of the EASTERN Roman empire, which later became the Byzantine empire, were actually tougher than ever. It was in fact from the Huns, that the Byzantines got the idea of the Cataphracti, or horse warriors trained in everything "war." No man; genghis Khan would murderalize the earlier romans.

  • It's a hypothetical "what-if" situation. Try to use some imagination.

  • Well, no, not really. The Romans conquered everything from Gaul to Egypt, and from Spain to Turkey. That's quite a bit more than "just themselves".

  • Romans conquer their selfs?

The Romans had goods access from around the Mediterranean, and the world! A mail system that was faster than anything before modern times... Very well maintained roads, first highway system in history and that truly connected the Empire! Unrivaled security, central heating, hospitals, fast food, most advanced plumbing in history until the modern age! World's first police and fire departments, Also the Romans and Greeks had the fist Computers, and many more...

  • i never knew japenese had to deal with monguls

  • this is sweet

  • ty 4 putting this up

    gotta luv the samurai!

  • i COULDN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR PUTTING THIS UP..IT'S AMAZING. I LEARNED SO MUCH.

  • 3:29 "kamikazii" RFLOL

  • awesome
