I had the exact bike. Top speed was 42mph stock. I put a smaller front sprocket and got 45mph. I blew the motor at 3500 miles. It ran from 1978 when I got it until 1984, so it lasted about six years.
@gaspowerrules Hi, I have three Yamaha GT 80's They are all 1978 E modles. Two are up and running and one I am useing as a parts bike. I hope to restore it at some point, but for now I am just useing it for parts to keep the other two up and running well. My parts bike is an MX. No lights or turn signals. Both of the two running bikes can do about 35 to 40, but thats winding out 4th gear. They cruze nice around 25 to 30. : )
