  • Sonic Adventure is my favorite Sonic game aswell, probably because it was the first game to introduce story and voices not to mention awesome CG cut-scenes!

To tell you the truth though, the reviewers have bashed Sonic ever since he went 3D. I still remember reading the first review over 10 years ago and Sonic Adventure got something like 7.5.

  • Sonic 3 and knuckles was awesome.

  • I rant out of space, but to add, I've bought Spawn Armageddon and Ghost Rider and both of them are similar 3D beat'em ups like god of war and Warehog and both of them are good. It's hard to say or not that warehog haters hate 3D beat'em ups because all 4 games are the same way and are good, even Devil May cry, so what was the big deal with the warehog other then not being sonic. People said they'd rather see knuckles do it, but the argument is still there since he's not like sonic.

  • I pretty much agree with you on everything, even with 06 and I still like that game, and really, it's the only one that's actually worse off then most other titles, but I'll take it over colors. BTW, about the warehog being like god of war, I've never heard anyone but one guy say that they hated that game, and the guy who hates god of war likes the warehog.

  • How can you hate sonic 3 if you like sonic 1-2?!

  • i never really cared about sonic, but this explains a lot, good rant

  • sonic adventure 2 is one of my favourite games of all time the first one is up there too

  • No. A "Sonic Fan" is anyone who likes Sonic games. That's it. Nobody has any right to say someone ISN'T a fan of anything. The big difference between Sonic Adventure glitches and other game glitches are that the glitches in SA are game breaking at times. I've been playing Mario 64 and OoT for 13-14 years, and I've never ran into anything game breaking. In Sonic Adventure, I wound up stuck in a cliff side. It was -hilarious-. I don't think the glitches are bad myself.

  • @TatsuMakiSeppuKyaku (continued) I find them really funny, and they add to the game. But really, all of this is opinion. None of what you listed is really factual, rather just an opinion. I have a lot of trouble with the camera control in SA, but that's because I'm not used to it. I really like Sonic Adventure, but I would never say its level design is fantastic. There are too many forced sections that I just don't like playing (the Casino bits and the airplane bits in particular).

  • @TatsuMakiSeppuKyaku (still continued) The other big key here is that "platformer" is a VERY wide genre. Just like the RPG, it's difficult to classify what a "pure" platformer is. Honestly, I think that any game where the control scheme is focused around jumping as a primary mode of transportation can be classified as a platformer, and as such both Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure qualify as platformers. This was an interesting rant, it was cool to see someone stick up for these games.

  • @TatsuMakiSeppuKyaku For sure, I probably didn't explain myself well enough. But what I meant was- I don't really care if someone only likes the old games- or only likes the new ones. My bigger point was that they really have no reason to go around bashing the games, insulting the intelligence/age/sexuality of people who DO like the game. That's what makes me mad. I mean, I agree there's glitches, and the camera can be awkward. But they aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

  • @TatsuMakiSeppuKyaku (cont) Just like with Duke Nukem Forever, its not as bad as people say it is. They have so many ridiculous expectations, that when they arent met they instantly bash the game, sega, and fans.

Anyway, how have you been- last I heard from you- you were having some rough times.

  • @HelsinkirocksAGF The rough times are still a coming, I'm afraid. I've basically been forced out of my house and I've had to move in with one of my friends on the other end of the state. It's making things difficult :/

On a mildly related note, my friend and I are actually heading out to play n trade right now to pick up Sonic Adventure DX purely because this video made us want to play it.

  • I don't agree. Trying to force people to your opinion would be what classifies you as a fanboy, as opposed to just a fan. I enjoy 2D Sonic games the most (mainly the Genesis ones at that), but I don't force my opinions on other people; and therefore wouldn't consider myself a fanboy.

  • Nice video man! I agree with ya on almost everything you said.

  • Im not a fan of the sonic games after Sonic & Knuckles myself. I dont hate them, but they just aint my cup of tea. I prefer the simple 2D side scrolling and no dialogue/cutscenes and the actual sound of the megadrive harware.

I think most people would prefer that sega just put sonic to rest. Your totally right that no-one is ever happy, even i am one of them to some degree. They finally released a 2D sonic and i didnt really like it. Im quite happy just to enjoy the Master System and MD games.

  • I can say that there are some amazing 3D sonic games, but there are so many games to come out in the 3D sonic library that dont become distinctive that its hard to find all the amazing Sonic games. Great Video man!

  • I had never put much thought into it, but you make some good points. I'm a sonic fan and I usually just ignore all the hate that his games get but you've really put into perspective how ridiculous it is getting. Great rant!

  • (continued) So I believe its just the speed they put them out at and the lack of content that doesn't get people very excited. I did like sonic colours though, that was a really excellent game. I don't know if my opinion really counts because I havent played all the most recent sonic games, but there, I said it :D I did like sonic generations demo alot even though the jumping did seem a little stiff but they will probably fix that. Made a video of the demo too :)

  • @TheScarrend Actually man, it's not the lack of content, it's that there's a lot of content that barely has something to do with sonic. Think about unleashed, people hated the warehog because it wasn't like sonic, but it was still fun. If anything, the adventure games had more content then most adventure games outside of the series I can think of, but people just right it off as being forced to play as this character for no reason. Just compare sonic colors to adventure 2.

  • I hear you man but personally I think that yea, ocarina of time did have camera problems no doubt about that, but it is an adventure game and it has so much stuff in it that it just kinda compensates the camera with that. Mario also has all sorts of stuff in forms of minigames etc. I haven't played any sonic after Sonic 3D (which I think was the first 3D sonic), but I would imagine the bad reviews are simply because sega rushes the games out, so they do have glitches and shit. (continued)

  • @TeriosLP Haha I bought that at the warped tour. It actually says "Fuck You and Your Fucking Cigarette". The booth was a cancer charity thing, and all the money I paid for it went to cancer research!

  • @TeriosLP I agree as well. Sonic Unleashed isn't the worst game in the series, as some would have you believe. Not the best, not the worst. Its decent 7/10 game, you can play it from start to finish and have some fun with it.

Do the Werehog portions add anything to the game? Maybe. Maybe not.

The point is people needlessly hate on and bash the game without even playing them all the way through.

  • Good rant man, all too often people find something they love and want more of it while rejecting any change and then complaining that they're essentially buying the same game. It's bizarre.

  • @scscanlan I whole-heartedly agree.
