can someone help please, i want to do a sort of shutting down effect, sorry i dont know the technical name for it but the effect makes it sound like the music has just failed or shut down half way through recording. any tips would be greatly appreciated!
@THEAMAZINGVIDEO I am trying to build my HOME studio and i want to ask you some questions.
First i have a Pc, soundcard for recording, cubase 5 and recently got my krk studio monitors. In most videos i see there's always a mixer. The point is that i don't want to rec many instruments together. Do i need it for another purpose?
Now i want to rec el guitar using vst let's say guitar rig but i want to manually control the effects let's say wah. What do i need to get? (Expression pedal maby?)
I 've got some issues: Drums set sounds so good, however, after being recorded into my DAW, it looses some details. Is it normal ? To fix this, I open the DAW and disable its EQ even though I did'nt touch it while recording..After that, the drums sound better but there's clipping as result.. What do you suggest me to fix this issue ? The sinth's built in drums are originally factory made and set under any processors ?
you can also use a compressor as an envelope designer. By manipulating the attack and release times you can decide how much of the attack comes through, making it louder after the make up gain, or you can have a very short release time and let the release through, giving the snare f.ex more ring and less snap after make up gain.
Compressors are wonderful tools, just play around and have fun.
Is there any compressor software I could use, to limit the mic from going above 0dB, for when the singer "shouts", so the sound gets compressed, and wont clip..
I know I didnt explain too well, but I think you will understand.
And if there is any plugin like this, could you point out wich one?
As schehf says, when the signal has been recorded, the clip is already in there (clip is when the software deletes data because it's too loud) Tell your vocalist to shout as loud as he will in the song, and gain the input on the micpre accordingly. I usually give between 10dB headroom, so the peak will be -10dB
what i always do (expesially working in digital) is get your singer to shout as loud as they can before you record, and make sure you have your preamps, and daw set so that the signal is just under distorting or clipping. then you can fool around with compressors and effects with the track after you've recorded to make it fit with the mix.
Oh dang I was using the Attack on the drums... haha thanks for making this, I can't wait till you go into more detail about drums and stuff, your videos have been thus far very helpful for me in creating a better sound.
Might sound like a stupid question but here goes...
I see you writing about clean playing in alot of your videos, I don't get it, are you talking about notes that shouldn't be there or is it something else?
For example in the disconnected video ''Apologies for the very unclean Verse riff. Too fast for me, not my style.''
I can't see any problems with the verse riff, at all, guess it's because I still have pretty untrained ears.
I want to know because it could be something I need to work on
This is a great video series. Even though I was looking for some more advanced mixing tutorial, I think this kind of thing is a fantastic introduction for those entering the biz. I especially like the focus on sound, and studio application of tools, rather than the technology itself. Hopefully you continue this trend, possibly with many more examples of the things to look out for when in the studio. The tried and true do's and don'ts which we all happen upon when learning :)
Hi Schehf, again a good job, man. Really interested in you drums tutorial! Have a question: do you use 64 or 32 bit XP? Have you ever worked with Adobe Audition? Do you have an opinion about it? thanks

Wie findest du Logic / Pro Tools?
Olli120 1 year ago
@Olli120
kam für uns nicht in Frage, da Mac only.
Aber beide Programme können Dinge die Cubase nicht kann.
Pro Tools wird aber am besten weiterentwickelt.

You have to gain it done before recording.
When the interface distorts because you are over 0db, it can't be changed for good.
compressor or limiter for singing are common.
I use the URS 1980. expensive, but worth it.

Thankyou for the quick reply, I think you will notice my PM by now, contact will be easier through that.
I hope we will be in tough.

hey, ive got a question. What is the difference between a semi-pro studio, and a pro studio?
blackhawthorne 3 years ago
The difference is the much much bigger budget.
So more advanced rooms for recording and mixing.
Far better equipment.
schehf 3 years ago
how would you rank your audio quality at this point with your present equipment?
blackhawthorne 3 years ago
Pro, but my knowledge, recording and mixing abilities only semi pro.
I won't consider myself as a pro.

Unclean means: not playing perfectly.
Perhaps hitting a false note, not playing the right timing of the rhythm and so on.
So just not only that what is supposed to be heard.

In Cubase there are all such effects include.
But not so good sounding.

kann ich dann also ein compressor verwenden wenn ich beispielsweise fast gleichlaute bdschläge haben möchte?
(welche in der originalspur laut und leise sind?)
creamer88 3 years ago
Genau dafür ist er da.
Wenn man aber große Unterschiede ausgleichen möchte, hört sich das Signal durch den Compressor auch anders an.
schehf 3 years ago
ach klasse,
dann muss ich mal schaun wo ich das im cubase finde!
wieder etwas gelernt =)
danke!
