If you looke closely at the consumption meter (right below the revmeter) he's isn't even flooring it from the get-go! .. If you floor a BMW this meter will instantly go all the way to the right indikating that you're using a serious amount of diesel ... conclusion: it can go even faster :)

For anything other than a race track diesel is better in a car. Its more powerful, offers amazing torque - better motorway refinement because of lower engine rpm and better high speed acceleration. It also produces less CO2 and uses less fuel. Come to europe

BUT modern diesels require sterile and the best quality diesel fuel, don't have sporty exhaust sound at all, in general they are more unreliable than the gasoline engines besides they emit unburnt particles which cause lungs cancer and produce much more NOx gases which are highly poisonous. Diesel stink, it hasn't got such a nice sound as a petrol car can have. A diesel car with 250 bhp hasn't got a better acceleration at high speeds than a petrol car with 250 bhp, you just have to shift down or kick-down.

Diesel cars also produce more NOx, petrol cars more CO.

It's a different style of driving, but I prefer petrol.

Diesels have been refined to nearly knock out the pollutant issue. I'll agree, they're a little rough of an engine, but they're not that bad, my dad had a newer turbo diesel Mercedes that was fairly noticeably a diesel at idle, but not noticeable any other time. I'm all about diesel cars, great fuel economy, usually cheaper gas because it's a more "dirty" fuel, great around town and still gives enough to get that BMW to 170mph. :P

Look, it's not a fake. It translates out to about 160mph - which is really fast for highway driving. BMW's in the US are electronically limited to 155mph, but european models are not. I personally own an '87 325is which tops out at 133 limited by redline in 5th, but I assume the newer models can reach the 155 threshold.  But that's just my two cents.

he didnt actualy drive 259 ... the speedmeter is as inaccurate as in every other BMW. I guess that the real speed was about 240kph ... besides, it's physially impossible to drive 260 with a bodyshape like that and an engine that provides 230ps (in 5th gear at 4500rpm), even if it's from BMW. Dont get fooled by stupid numbers on the instruments ;) even an Mercedes C-Class 230kompressor can show you 260 on the speedmeter ...

It's not just because it's a BMW that the speedometer is inaccurate. The speedometer in most cars today are driven by the speed the tires are turning, so if you have bigger wheels on your car, the speedometer will be less accurate. Over-inflating/under-inflating your car, tire- baldness, driving in harsh weather conditions, and a problematic alternator can affect the accuracy of the speedometer also.

It's correct that the speed displayed in the board computer is too fast. However, in my BMW 330D's navigation system there is a secret menue displaying the real speed based on GPS. This proves that my 330d goes faster than 250 km/h. I am regularely driving this speed on the the German Autobahn (e.g. A5 between Frankfurt and Darmstadt).
