  • i love how he gets the audience involved :) i wish i was alive during this time

  • WHAT DO YOU WANT!?!?

i want this music back c:

  • the tempo was a little fast not exactly recording accurate. Kinda killed the songs beat. But still good

  • I can't believe all these old videos or their 1983 tour.I wanted to see them so bad when i was a kid . and now its right here at my fingertips . so cool .. :)

  • @ren3788 You touched on something I was thinking about earlier today. In today's world of technology, we have instantly at our fingertips music and video that we had to either search out at local record stores or wait to hear or see on the radio or MTV. The only way to see a band, was to actually SEE it... LIVE.

I wonder if ultimately that availability has lessened its value (beyond the fact that most of today's music is of course value-less crap).

  • Um they did Rule before 94.

  • OMG HE HAS TWO ARMS

  • Any performing musician knows that when you are playing a live show adrenaline gets the best of you and you play the songs faster thinking they are at their normal tempo. You only realize you were playing 100mph after you go back and watch the video. That's why a lot of drummers play to a click live on stage just to keep the proper tempo.

  • @AdyingEmberXXX that could be true for DL as well, but there's also a possibility that this is how they wanted to play it and Mutt had them play it slower in the studio.

  • I know there releasing a live album this summer but they should release a live album from their performances in the 80s

  • I doubt the fact that they were at a festival made them play it faster. More likely they just got excited and played it faster without realising, or did it deliberately for more energy. maiden and slayer do the same thing.

  • 5 people don't want rock n roll

  • shaded07 thanks

  • This was from a festival so they probably were playing it a bit faster because they are under a time limit.

  • where was this concert at....

  • @strappingone France, I believe.

  • This is one of he best songs ever made. This is Def Leppard at their best.

  • joes tone was a little pitchy in spots. but i still liked it. great band. great music.

  • rick allen drums so fast here which causes them to all go fast

  • Comment removed

  • they sing fast here

  • This concert had several bands performing and Leppard were thought to be the less "hard" out of all of them when it started. Then Joe Elliot says "we got something to say" and Steve Clark steps up on the guitar with that massive riff and the rest was history.

  • Awesome performance!!:D:D I love when Joe llet the crowd sing...and Rick is an amazing drummer :) ROCKON!!!!:D:D:D

  • pretty face paced..

  • Lol ,,, Kinda Fast. Good Thou =P

  • I think this sounds better than the over produced version on Pyromania. Hell, I bet all of those songs sounded better onstage.

  • about time u came to perpignan PPPLLLEEEEAAASSSEEEE

  • They played this a little more fast paced! Really cool, but personally I love it when they keep it at the normal pace! That makes it more of the epic rock song that it is!

  • To me Pyromania was their peak!!!!

  • just great!

  • I'm guessing this is later in the tour, Joe was having some trouble hitting the high notes. I saw them 9 times on Hysteria tour, 3 times front row, but would have given it all up for just one show on Pyromania.

  • omg!!!

    i whish i was there!!!!!!!!

  • This song is the epitome of rock n roll, listen up

  • So AWESOME!!!!!!!And I think Rick still are an awesome drummer!!

  • I love this friggin video.....Joe Elliott says "we got something to say" and Steve Clark steps up with his guitar and says it...Classic Lep....:)

  • it sounds sweet playing fast lol.

  • ahaha at least it shows they didnt use a backing vocal track

this is one of those things where the drummer plays the beginning too fast and since everyone's adjusted there's no turning back lol

  • way too fast you loose the feel of the song

  • so fast

  • nice sped up beat.

  • Rick Allen whit both arms, at his best shape!!

  • rick allen actually has two arms in this, now he has one arm and still is an awsome drummer, def leppard rules.

  • @kurtcobain66 first one armed drummer in rock history!!

  • @krisaf778 The only one armed drummer in history

  • @kurtcobain66 lol no shit

  • Steve Clark what a preformance

  • R.I.P Steve Clark!

  • Ibanez Destroyer?

  • yea a dt555 i own one there sick as hell

  • it sounds good fast

  • why is it going fast

  • i think because the "punk scene" was in fashion then so it was normal to speed things up...........

  • i want rock n´ roll!

  • @alamolobaa long live rock n' roll!

  • @alamolobaa I am in a band and that is our first song

  • What do you want?

  • is that collen or willis ?

  • its collen

  • collen

  • The band in this video is the greatest band ever! The band later is not.

  • drum beat is AMAZING

  • where was this festival?? did anyone go to it?

  • This is fast compared to their later years of the same song where the drummer is only playing with one arm. Either that or they're on coke.

  • is the collen or clark with that fast bit?

  • Collen

  • the drummer has two arms

  • beucase this is live in 1983 rick lost his arm in 1984 that's why in this vid rick has both arms

  • Oh my god, what amazing deductive reasoning you have there. rick lost his left arm on 12-31-84

  • damn this is fast!

  • LMFAO! its like i hit FFWD er some crap! i love d/l though

  • Def Leppard is and will be the Rock of Ages

  • man they rushed the song and they need to make a def leppard guiatar hero

  • hahahaha....no...they really shouldn't. Guitar Hero destroys rock songs, and just spawns a whole new group of wannabees who think they are badassess and rockers just because they can click buttons really fast. And when you're on stage playing in a band, your adrenaline goes through the roof and you play faster than sitting around at practice, but it doesn't seem like you are going faster. Its a "surge of the moment" kind of thing.

  • no man umm look im no rock band nerd or guitar hero guy but listen i WOULD be if they had def leoopard songs =P but this much faster than normal mabey just a few beets but it is faster ive seen them play this song its much slower

  • The live in Sheffield 93' version of this song kicks ass.. probably the best version I've heard.

  • yea, go def leppard

  • Def Leppard was it in 1983...hands down!

  • RICK friggin RULZ!!!!!!!!!!

  • rick allen is not only a huge inspiration, but INSANELY ADORABLE! <3<3

  • Ricky is amazing isn't he? Then and now!!!

  • YEAH!!!!

  • I thought it was pretty awesome myself. Damn, Go Ricky A! He is just as good now, if not better than he was then! That was when they started and it was raw and crazy! I want Rock and Roll!

  • raw? he hehe. how you sleepin? he he he ooh i kill me.

  • Oh yeah. Rick is just awesome any way you look at it. He certainly is an inspiration to others. I think so anyway!

  • seems a bit rushed to me. but maybe its just me..dunno..rip steamin

  • No, it's not just you. Don't know why, but it does seem rushed.

  • this was how it was done back then. most tracks were generally rushed in concerts. almost deplorable. but def could pull it off.

  • lep awesome no matter what

  • dang right leppling

  • Not sleeping so much!!! lol

  • oic

    thanks

  • yay, awesome

  • I notice that a lot about concerts, why "rush" a song, time constraints?

  • I don't know. But you can really tell on this one how much faster they are going than on a recorded version. When I listened to this the first time I knew it didn't sound right, but I didn't realize it was the speed at which it was done that made it sound different until I saw crue4life's comment about it sounding rushed. Then it hit me what was different. I don't know if it's b/c of time constraints or what. Now I'm curious.

  • yay im not crazy

  • did you notice the salvation army only has 12k views for their rock of ages???? it's over on the right. hang a tic.

  • Well, that's a shame really. I like the other "Rock of Ages" too. It's a beautiful hymn I think. Now if we were on Godtube instead of Youtube, I imagine the Salvation Army would have more views don't you?

  • Yeah it did seem rushed but back then they were a little more raw I think. Now they are a little more polished and know more about what the audience wants. Does that sound right? However, raw can be very, very, good. lol

  • Dude this tape RULEz but could you track it better?

  • rick had both arms back then...how did he loose the arm?

  • On New Years Eve 1984 Rick was driving his Corvette to Sheffield (The place where Def Leppard started) and some guy was egging him on with his car. Rick punched the gas went around a left hand turn too fast and flipped it went through a stone wall and landed in a field. He was ejected..... minus his arm. The seat belt was not latched right and came up and sliced through his arm.

  • What's in Rick's mouth?

  • it's a mike, kinda with a big black foam over it, he cant hold a mike when he has his both arms occupied :P

  • phil plays that solo like its nothing. fuckin awesome

  • phil does rip that solo at the end, fuck, he's great

  • hell yeah, I couldn't see his fingers moving!

  • two arms

  • fuckin Phil man. awesome

  • that solo...god

  • i know. flippin awefrigginsome.

  • i'm already gonna hit replay. :D

  • Yeah i've seen this several times! This is when they were becoming Rock Stars!

  • Cool!!!

  • ha ha ha steve at the end.

  • they r singing as fast as they can.steve clark will always be a def leppard dead or alive he will be missed

  • Lol i love it how they make the crowd so into it around 3:40

  • i wish i was his age back then i'm 14 now grrr!!!!

  • Why is weird to see Rick Allen with two arms? Does anyone know what happened to him? He had two arms before his accident right, so why is it weird? I hate it when people say "Wow two arms. or omg, look Rick's got two arms.

  • after the accident, he plays the drums with one arm...I saw him play in concert and yeah it is weird but he's an awesome drummer

  • never seen him in concert but he's my hero. DEF RULZ

  • phew... i feel/smell much cleaner now.

  • he got in a car accident

  • This version smokes!

  • this song jsut has soo much fuckin pump in it!!! love it!!!

  • I think its cool to see how much faster DL played just 5 years before the Hysteria tour...I really like the more hard rock feel to it.

Also, its really wierd to hear Rick without his custom electronic kit and even weirder to see him with two arms!

  • I love the terror twins! I wanna see them live !

  • good luck with steve dead...RIP steve

  • rick allen had his arm:)

  • its kinda weird to see it... lol!

  • Wow, their live shows are always amazing.

  • I am having so much fun this evening cruisin around youtube and rockin with Def my all time favorite band. Thanks for sharing. Rock On

  • Wish i could've seen this show! what an awesome live version of this song

  • I love Rick Allen!!!

  • The Thunder God! Awesome.

  • Love the up tempo version of this song.. looks like they scored some good yae-hoo before the show.

  • I love leppard really I do but the one thing I hate is that between their inception and Hysteria they sound like they race to finish their songs they don't really start slowing everything down until the hysteria world tour!!!

  • poor.

  • THE THUNDER GOD!!!

  • i see what you mean rik its way faster in this one

  • dude this rocks. steve is so awesome. hes actually singing in this song especially at 1:25 how awesome!

  • BEST BAND PERIOD.. NOT JUST OF THE 80'S

  • TWO ARMS!!!

  • Steve kicks ass in the vid.

  • i like the song when its a bit slower....best 80's band

  • That performance had several heavy metal bands performing after Def Leppard. I think Steve Clark through the gauntlet down with that first riff when he comes in!! That just blew me away when i heard it the first time....with the speakers up!

  • The origanl first Boy band, do you love it? Cheers.

  • Don't even try to take credit away from them for their success. These guys formed on their own and decided on their own musical direction. Sure Mutt Lange helped with their sound, but he's infamously known as the 6th Leppard, not the puppet master.

  • They didn't hire Mutt. Mutt called them in England after their lp with lack of sales in USA. Mercury Records told him to contact them because they know Def Leppard would be the next best band since Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Believe it or not, they were the last metal band from UK! There's no other group that could top these guys who sold over 70 million albums worldwide!!

  • guitars in this video were AMAZING!

  • This song sounds great at the faster tempo here.

  • I love this tune at the faster tempo!

  • he should have done a siiick drum solo... before the second chorus. he will never be able to do it again since he lost his arm.

  • You should watch more Def Leppard's live videos. Rick plays drum solo before second chorus with one arm.

  • i cant find anything except the really new stuff which kinda sucks. LINK IT.

  • I wish I was there but I was born in '92. Joe is a God. I love this song

  • omg look at rick! what a great band [:

I CANt WAIT TO SEE THEM LIVE!!
