  • Does this run better than the gamecube collectors edition? I got that version JUST to be able to play majora's mask again and it has such an issue with freezing up which I found out is really common with that version.. Does the same thing happen in the VC version?

  • This plays better than the N64 version IMO. Granted I prefer the N64 controller, but gameplay wise this is perfect.

  • I think this game is better than Ocarina of Time. Yes, the side quests and masks are great. But what about the dark original story? Majora is far more evil than Ganon. How about the creativity? Like the last dungeon? You flip the entire thing upside down. You use the song to create statues to push switches. How about the sad story behind each of the cursed areas? The music and enemies are awesome too. Personally, this is my favorite game ever.

  • i love this game :D i downloaded it from the shop years ago and it's by far my favorite 3-D Zelda game, the mask, the side quests(especially Anju and Kafei),the dungeons, the glitches (like controlling Epona without Link and Fierce Deity Link)and the final boss just amazing! i have the original cartridge for N64 and my N64 still works but i could never play it before, because i didn't have the memory expansion :/ either way great game, great review and everyone i recommend this!

  • Also, while many complain about only four dungeons, I think the quality well makes up for it. This game, in my opinion, has the best dungeons of any Zelda game. I was lost in Snowhead and Stone Tower for so long. :D Sadly, I can't say that with the recent titles.

  • I've hated the last 5 Zelda's so I know exactly where you're coming from. I didn't even die on TP, not even on that Cave in the desert. Forget it's name but it's not important.

I think this is a very underated Zelda because yeah, 4 dungeons and a boss, seems short, but the side quests are the best of any Zelda and some takes hours! So it's by no means a short game. Unlike WW with it's 40 of sailing and 2 dungeons. And quite generic side quests "go here, collect X of Y"

  • @DEIVION212 yeah i think MM is the greatest game of all time.have so many memories with this one.its definatly the best zelda.TP is worst by far.so generic.but i thought wind waker was great though.it added some thing to the zelda formula instead of just coping OOT.like TP.good review :)

  • Thanks :)

Had WW took away 40 hours of sailing, added in way more than 2 dungeons and was harder, I'd have loved it. But nothing crushed me more than thinking "8 Tri-Force pieces you say? YES, 8 MORE DUNGEONS, WTF I HAVE TO FISH FOR THEM?!"

  • @DEIVION212 yeah i hated that too.but hopefully skyward sword will put the series back on track :)

  • I'll be honest, I'm not even prepared to try it. I hated TP, I hated Minish and the 2 DS games, as well as being dissapointed with WW as I say, so after being burned 5 times in a row, I'm not even going to risk buying it.

  • @DEIVION212 from what i have seen and heard skyward sword will fix all the problem you had with the previous zelda games.nintendo said it will be the hardest zelda since zelda 2.so hard you start out with six hearts.because basic enemy's attacks are suppose to take away a whole heart.and you will be able to travel by land, air, and sea.and its already gotten a 10 from edge.and 98% form ONM.who said " its by far the best zelda"so i think it will get the series back on track :)

  • I saw Shigsy playing it at E3 and he was beating enemies just by looking at the crowd swinging his arms wildly. And I fail to see why they couldn't keep it with the basic 3 hearts, maybe then it would've been truly hard. I also read Sixth Axis' hands on where they said the tacked on motion controls are even more unnecessary than usual.

I actual found it sickening when Ninty said they were going to add button controls but decided to just stick with motion controls.

  • They're complete and utter crap and have ruined 90% of all Wii games. Almost every Wii game could be fixed with pad support and multiple difficulty settings, yet the Big and wise N are clueless, they just don't listen.

Even when Sony made the awful Move, the big names supported pads.

Bottom line, Ninty say a lot of things yet they rarely speak in truths. They're like the Jedi, everything is "from a certain point of view". Overall I've hated the last 5 Zelda's so I've officially gave up.

  • @DEIVION212 well i very optimistic about skyward sword.but only time will tell i guess.also i don't get why people complain about motion controls so much it worked with mario galaxy really well.is it really that hard for people to swing their hands a few times.like i said its hard to tell right now but i think its harsh to say the game sucks before you play it. you must have really hated the last five zelda games.though i can understand your pain i feel the same way about final fantasy now.

  • Yes I really did hate the last 5, although I didn't at any point outright say that Skyward sucked. I just think it looks beyond awful, but as I ain't played it I can't say it sucks.

Motion controls are inaccurate, unresponsive and mean you can't sit comfortably to game. It's as if the Wii's promoting good posture.

Nothing will ever replace key pushes, but Ninty refuse to believe this.

  • Don't know why people can't stand Tingle. He's completely bonkers. The Zelda series has many characters who are.

  • I Have that TV

  • I have a question' say I have the data on my gamecube memory card (I had the Collector's Edition but it doesn't work any more :[ ) If I were to download this from the virtual console would it still have my data?

  • Nope.

  • @SENORJ1 Well, that wouldn´t make much sense, wouldn´t it? Nintendo isn´t magic either, you know.

  • i know you don't like to give games a score since its just a matter of opinion, but it would really be nice if you gave some sort of generalized score then said "of course that's my take on the game, other people's opinion's may vary," or something like that

  • Apologies an all, but I ain't changing 616 vids in. So there'll be no scoring.

  • @DEIVION212 i can understand that, its just im used to scores but you really analyze the games well so its not really needed. thanks for all the great reviews!

  • Glad you like them, thanks :)

  • how'd yoiu get it on wii

  • Goto Wii Shop, search Zelda. But you need points, which can be bought in store or on the Wii Shop.

  • @DEIVION212 thanks man oh an one last thing i own an n64 controller but my wii's on the top of my tv do i need to put it at the bottom to plug it in or what?

  • You can't use N64 controllers for this bud, it's not a standard Wii controller. NGC is the only old controller you can use.

As for your Wii being on top of your T.V, I assume you mean your Wii's sensor bar? If so then it can do ontop or on the bottom, you just have to choose so in the Wii's settings.

  • @DEIVION212 oh thanks that really help :)

  • No probs.

  • Will the graphics look better on the wii?

I have this game for my n64 and it is unplayable on my new hd tv.It is all fuzzy and pixelated,Will it look any better on wii?

  • If you have a compo cable, yes, it does.

  • @eddyc09 well if you have compo cable then it will work better

  • I've never understood why OoT was considered the greater game. This is easily my favorite game of all time..

  • 3:34 "Cause that's Tingle...." hahaha

  • haha what accent do you have? it seems almost english/jamaican or something...

  • English.

Don't think I've even been mistaken for a Jamaican before like, lol.

  • @DEIVION212

haha it was mostly just the way you said game. it was sort of like gee-um

  • The funny thing is, it's only people who don't come from England who say I pronounce "game" wrong.

And as we made the language, I'd say I'm probably doing it right.

  • @DEIVION212

haha you probably aren't wrong, it's just something i noticed

  • @DEIVION212 its cause your a geordie boy like (hogs of war reference)

  • @DEIVION212

You don't sound Jamaican, but you do kinda sound Irish or Scottish.

    I dunno, just a thought.

  • @Total1337 I think you have to be from england but id say hes from around north-east england, weird how people sound different depending on were your from

  • @RetroShotv1 Indeed.

  • Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are my utmost favorties LoZ's ever. I was sooo unbelievably happy when I saw the moon commercial when I was 9-10 or so. I was like YES A SEQUEL TO MY FAVORITE GAME EVER OoT and damn was Majora's Mask good.

  • Pile of crap=Pile of chocolate

    OH YOU

  • Comment removed

  • You thick fuck, are you really that dumb to A. brag about this and B. to not know that this is a fucking SD card load up. Mine loads right away too if it's on the Wii menu, but as the Wii is a heap of shit with no hard drive, you need SD cards when you own over 300 VC and WW games.

  • You ramble too

  • Really couldn't give a fuck.

  • @anomaluigi how is he rambling. he's trying to explain the game to you dumb ass. and if you're gonna bitch about it then go watch some other review fucktard.

  • MM = 2ND best Zelda game!

No OoT is not my fav Zelda game

  • I realize Majoras Mask takes place in a different reality known as Termi something. So my question is does that mean Hyrule is a planet or country or what?

  • I've always thought of it as a country because of how they talk about it.

  • @utuber377 It's a kingdom.

  • I accidental turned Transcribe Audio on, best mistake of my life.

  • DUDE It's a ZELDA game it's not supposed to make sense

  • a game in which participants adopt the roles of imaginary characters in an adventure under the direction of a Game Master. THAT is an rpg.

  • Exactly, and Final Fantasy, Mana, KOTOR, WOW etc... don't have games masters, which is why I think the name should be changed because the words "Role Playing Game" are so general and broad that it's not right to be used in video game genre's because it can be used to describe anything.

  • I have this on my nintendo wii but I do not know how to save your progress when you are done playing.... Plz help, thx

  • Whenever you play the Song Of Time you can save.

If you mean the Wii's VC home save where you push home then exit to the Wii menu, then it's not available on N64 games.

The only other way to save is by hitting the owl statues but it's not a hard save, meaning that if you only use those and then one day forget to use them, you'll have lost everything.

The owl statues should only be used in emmergencies when you really need to leave but you're upto a boss or something.

  • I wanna get this cus all my N64 controllers have broken thumb sticks...

  • what controller are you using. cause my gamecube conttroler doesnt work

  • NGC, it's all I ever use.

  • For me this game is just a wonderful and even claustrophobic experience, what with the few dungeons, 3 day limit and quite dense areas (No plain blank places like The Great Sea or OoT's Hytrule Field) which makes it one of my all time favourite games. The save system just means to me that time has to be invested in it while being precious.

  • @Yetaxa LOL true, but you're still playing the roles of those people. A game like Zelda would be called an action rpg. With your definition, even a FPS could be called a role playing game, because you're playing the role of the soldier, or whatever.

  • You're not getting the point.

I don't know why this is so hard to get, but no one seems to be able to understand that it's not that I'm or anyone else is trying to get every game called an RPG, it's that we're trying to get RPG's to be called something else because as you've just rightly said, any game could be classed as an RPG.

Which is why no game should be called that.

Especially games where you play as multiple people. I mean names change, MMO didn't exist 20 years back, nor did FPSA.

  • @DEIVION212 Then what else would they be called?

  • Fuck knows, but it's not my job to re-classify them.

All I know is that the name Role Playing Game is stupid when assigned to a game where you play as multiple roles and then it's not allowed for other games.

The problem is, Dungeons And Dragons. That was the first RPG to make it big, and while it was for multiple people, every person played a role so it was called an RPG. Only then games compnaies said "Hey Final Fantasy is a bit like D&D" when personally I don't think it's anything like it.

  • Hell, I don't even think Final Fantasy was the reason, I'm just using it as an example.

But I don't see how games like that are anything like D&D as D&D is a board game played with dice and rules and cards and FF you go around hacking up monsters with button presses.

  • @DEIVION212 *shrug* I guess the classification just boils down to what criteria it matches best.

  • Mine's connected with a HD Component cable. That's the only thing I can think of that's different.

  • @DEIVION212

your wii is hacked right, the new wii menu skin and all?

  • No, if you were to actually read the bottom of the screen it says "SD menu" because it's the SD card update that came out OVER A YEAR AGO!

I'd apologise for shouting, but it REALLY fucks me off when dick heads accuse me of stealing VC games. I've paid for every single one of them and have the card and receipts to prove it.

  • Oh, apologies, it's "SD Card Menu" so it's spelled out EVEN more than I thought it was.

  • @crazyzeldafan08 thats th sd card menu you can copy vc and ww games youve bought onto it

  • They just don't make Zelda games like these anymore. I miss the days when Zelda games were creepy and had atmosphere like Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. Don't get me wrong, Wind Waker is fantastic (my favorite) and Twilight Princess is decent, but it seems they've toned it down in terms of the creepiness factor. I'm not sure if it's the graphics or what....

  • It's not the creepiness I miss, it's the difficulty and length. I don't think they've made a hard and long game since. WW was pathetically short and TP was stupidly easy (Didn't die, not even in the cave, not once).

  • @DEIVION212 Oh yeah, I definitely miss that, too. I guess it's all those factors combined that made them so memorable and fun. Each temple had eerie atmospheres about them. I love Wind Waker because of the exploration, but other than that, the game was too easy and forgettable for the most part.

  • Yup, I mean OOT's forest temple, how great is the music? Just for the eery factor? It really creeps you out after a while, especially with all the skulltula's and that.

    I love it :D

  • @DEIVION212 Oh yeah, definitely. OOT's forest temple music is one of my favorite video game songs. Hell, the whole soundtrack for OOT is fantastic.

  • i think the idea of only having like, 30 minutes to do something before you have to go back to the basics (literally) takes about 70% of my favorite part of OOT, the freeroaming adventure feel. im not gettin it!

  • No its not. A Link to the past and Link's awakening are set right after the other.

  • Yup, been told. Feel free to not post next time.

  • puzzles ARE NOT difficult. heh, i love typos.

  • continued... the only thing that i did not like about this game was that even though it was a follow up of OoT, they did not raise the difficulty level. Though i really enjoy LoZ games, i find that not one of their puzzles are difficult, and the bosses are too easy to beat. usually taking 3-6 hits to beat. other than that i didnt have any problems with this game, and i would strongly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the series. cheers. =3

  • Ive beat this game countless times. i can practically go through the entire game with my eyes closed. it really is a shame my 64 copy of it broke. :( but whatever. to answer some questions, when yew go back in time, yew do not have to redo any temples yewve completed, but if yew missed something, everything yew did reset so yeah, yew'd have to redo it. this game really was an excellent follow up of LoZ Orcarina of Time (which i recently went through for the 500th time). to be continued...

  • i cant decide if i should get this. Some people say its a disgrace while others say its better then oot :l

  • @nintendoguy360 there both great if u want a really long game and more chalenging then get this one but i perfer getting ocarina of time fist cuz this is a sequel of ocarina of time so if u wanna understand the story more get ocarina of time then this

  • By your definition, every game I've ever played is an RPG. You always play the role of someone else in a video game.

  • You just don't get it, do ya?

My point of saying it was to get people to question why Final Fantasy is called an RPG when it isn't.

The name RPG doesn't work, isn't correct and shouldn't be used, and THAT is my point.

Because when you have games like this and any other game where you play the role of just one person, that is technically (by the truest deffinition of the words) a role playing game. But people shortened it and all of a sudden it means 4 or more people killing orcs with spells.

  • i would like them to release this game also on the new 3DS coming out

  • So when you travel back in tim, you lose ammo for weapons only, or what?

Also, do you have to redo what you did in those 3 days when you go back in time?

  • Some stuff saves, a lot doesn't and the way it works is you have to choose one quest to do at one time because yeah, when you go back, most of your work goes.

But some quests are so advanced and so good they require you to go through the 3 day process with them multiple times as the first time you'll get an item which them leads you to another part of the quest and etc...

It's one of those things though where it always sounds awful, but when you play it you realise it's not bad.

  • I mean yeah, it's more frustrating than not having it, but after everything I read about it before it came out all those years ago, I didn't expect to even be able to play it, but then I loved it.

And I'm also not a fanboy or anything, but since this Zelda I've hated every new Zelda and I can't stand Nintendo or the Wii.

So I'm not saying this as a moronic fanboy who's trying to get you to play it :)

Hope that helps and if there's anythign else, just ask :)

  • @DEIVION212 a link to the past, ocarina of time and majora's mask...... only zelda's worth worship

  • The annoying thing for me is that you have to be a human to open save spots but if you need to as a deku at the start of the game you can't but that is so frustrating

  • You forgot to mention the amazing graphics.

  • I have always like Majora's mask more then Ocarina of time....Maybe because i haven't beaten Ocarina of time yet. Or maybe because I have beaten Majora's mask tons of times.

  • My favorite Zelda game is also OoT, but this game has one hell of a final boss; it's simply epic.

  • hey how you get the black background?

  • It's the SD card menu.

  • @DEIVION212 its the day not year

  • What is?

If you mean in game, yeah, I do say 3 days.

  • This game is very scary and difficult to complete...

It can get depressing despite it being generally as good as Zelda:OOT, especially during the temples...

It`s one of the best Zelda games but because it is so different it was not likely wise to use exact Zelda:OOT engine.

  • @M1XART its defenatly one of the darker zelda games and i remember it scaring me when i played it on the N64. classic game though :D

  • I may feel that hated people are going to reply. but i do not perfer Majora's Mask and i think it is lame and for one reason: Your time is limited. You have three days and after three days, you die. am i right? I haven't played for more than an hour. I just hated when your time is limited, because you feel the pressure. I like to spend my time and think and that is what a Zelda game is: puzzles. Anyway, i am sorry. That is my opinion. And if you feel like i am wrong, please reply. :)

  • @WhiteEmerald1991 you have about an hour (2 if you learn the right song) before you have to rewind time and go back to day one. you got to keep all your weapons etc. though. it took some getting used to but i thought it was cool for them to try something so original.

  • @wahzooo I don't know if i will give it another try because i am not into it nowadays. but i will acknowledge the game as being one of the best zelda's game. Thanks for the reply. :)

  • @WhiteEmerald1991 i feel you are wrong my reason why is becuase you put a :) after your comment so its not really exactly serious to me so i don't exactly think of it correct but then i may be wrong becuase like cheese

  • @poopylinklvl1 what?

  • Can you go to the Wii menu and later go back to the game and start exactly where you left off in the VC port?

  • wait wait wait, RPG? thats not right man. i could see where you could get that from, but yeah thats definately not right.

  • No, it isn't the first direct Zelda sequel... Link's Awakening?

  • What was Link Awakening a direct sequel to?

I loved the hell out of Awakening but it's been so long since I played it, I can't remember when the story/timeline was set.

  • I hate it when I do that -_-

    Link's Awakening.

  • it was a sequel to a link to the past.

  • I really wish it would come out on the VC so I could play it again because it's clearly been far too long, lol.

  • yeah that'd be cool being able to play every zelda game on wii i also heard a rumor that oot and mm will be remade for ds. idk about that though.

  • Yeah those rumours have been going around for a while, but what with Ninty remaking all of there best games instead of just making new ones, they seem more plausible now.

  • @DEIVION212 When you play N64 games from the wii shopchannel is it full "wide" screen ?

  • As you can probably see in the vid, it's full screen pretty much.

But I'm on a compo cable and HD T.V setup.

  • I love the Kafei/Anju quest. It feels so bad (in a good way) when you have to travel back in time when they finally get back together, and it really gets emotional.

It feels so sad to travel back in time and let everything turn back to normal afterwards, but the ending cutscene slightly changes since you get a mask by completing the quest and it just feels so rewarding. Lovable

  • lol, seems like the Virtual Console version looks better. I am currently playing it on my N64 on a widescreen TV, and the graphics don't look that good.

But that doesn't matter, it's Zelda god damnit. Right?

  • Yup, it doesn't matter one bit, unless it's that awful gamecube port XD

Yeah the Kafei/Anju thing was just magical, it's something that IMO Ninty haven't put into there games since the N64 days.

  • yeah the gamecube version i would never get but its the same price maybe$3 cheaper but who cares the originalls are awsome

  • Is this a creepy game? Darkest of the series as they say?

  • Yes, but for Nintendo that's still about as dark as the original Alice In Wonderland, so... Yeah XD

  • jajajaja yeah it ain't scary at all where the hell did that rumor come from

  • I know, I mean I agree it's dark and creepy in places, but it's never scared me at all.

The only creepy bits are really when you're taking off a main mask and he's all twisted in agony and screams out.

  • but the graphics could not make it a teen for teen game

  • this may be, besides twilight princess, the most epic zelda game EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent review Demon, I got this today and I'm really liking it. I love how you shoot Tingle out of the sky lol

Oh, Legend of Zelda is an Adventure game and not an RPG. An RPG is where you develop a character as in Final Fantasy, in Legend of Zelda, you don't develop Link as a character.

Hope this helps, wooooooooooooo listen to me getting all clever lol

  • As I say though in the comments below, the reason people used to class Zelda as (And why they're technically correct) is that RPG stands for Role Playing Game.

And you play the role of Link.

So it's basically an argument that I've been having for years as to why Final Fantasy isn't an RPG and should be called something else.

    Thanks :)

  • @Lyvallian actually, if you look on a box of a zelda game it says the catagory is RPG. It says it on Twilight Princess.

  • this game is my favorite zelda game so much fun with this game and a lor of thing to do founding mask and item ^^

  • Which version runs better?

VC, zelda collectors edition or the N64?

  • @NinjaOnFireee the vc version runs the best the gc one runs horribly and eventually freezes and the n64 version runs fine.

  • @spsheets58

    Thanks for the answer

  • VC, less lag, no music issue, 640x480

the only thing you will sacrifice is the rumble...

  • @NinjaOnFireee obviously the N64, followed by VC, VC emulates better than the collectors edition, but the original runs the game it was meant to be played.

  • @ninjaonfireee

the n64 runs better than the collectors edition, but i dont know about the VC.

  • is it just me or is the shield design different than the original N64

  • ya im pretty sure it is

  • Well MM's was different to OOT's, so if you're thinking about OOT then it will be different.

But as there's a picture of the VC one here, then google the N64 pic and compare.

  • i got this game today, it's pretty great but i'm already finding the repetition of tasks to be a bit tedious. If you can hold onto key items then you ought to be able hold onto stuff like stuff you have bottles or beans that youve bought.

  • Yup, it's one of the few downsides to the game and it does get annoying. It's why I much prefer OOT because even though you can travel in time you keep your stuff when you do so.

  • how did you change the wii background theme?

  • It's the SD menu.

  • my OPINION mm was wayyyy better that oot

  • This has to be my favourite zelda game, people don't appreciate just how clever the time travel mechanic is: each character has their own story to tell which develops over the 3 days. While the story may not be as "epic" as oot, with the combined stories of all the characters and if you set out to find all of the masks, this game is far more rewarding.

  • @lastblade3 yeah it was the perfect sequel... after oot like people like me asked for the perfect sequel and we got more... almost makes me want to cry lol... best gamer ever to the best game ever(well ffvii and all that other stuff are also best games ever blah blah no effence to anyonewho takes it seriously)

  • @GpB217 yeah, i don't know where the whole concept of wind waker being better than oot came from, cuz i think that game nearly single-handedly annihilated the zelda series.

  • Worst thing about WW was that the core gameplay was ace, but the sailing was horrid, the length was a fucking joke and then there was tingle.

  • @DEIVION212 why do you think i hated it?

  • @DEIVION212 just wondering when you say its a joke do you mean too long or too short? ive played some zelda games, but WW was the only one ive ever finished so i dont have anything to compare it too =]

  • Far to short.

Usually trhere's way more than 2 dungeons and the boss dungeon.

  • @DEIVION212 oh... i think i must just suck at zelda games then beacuse i thought it was pretty long :)

  • Well the sailing gives the illusion of it having a great length, which is why I hated the sailing.

  • @DEIVION212 thats a very good point, if you add up all the time you spend in dungeons its not much, but pile on the sailing and you get a long game thats 50% sailing lol

  • Yup, I honestly did beat the whole of the GameBoy Advance version of A Link To The Past whilst sailing in this game.

Because everytime I knew I was sailing, I'd whack the GBA on and start playing ALTTP. And as I say, I actually beat ALTTP before I beat WW just by playing it in the sailing sections.

  • @lastblade3 i think they wanted to make zelda like mario for like kids to help widen the audience

and then have a more mature link for older people but not too... how you say.... good where the kids can't play it

oot and mm were T weren't they? well idk prob not but they were damn good..... damn good...... it sucks to watch something like oot and mm go down the drain with this new crap..... my love for oot and mm was from the heart and im just losing interest after tpwhich was dissappoint

  • The problem is, it's not just Zelda that they're ruining. I hate the Wii, I really do. It's a complete joke. And easily the worst console I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot over the years.

Every game I buy for it, I hate. Ninty are systematically making easier and easier games that are aimed at kids and grannies instead of the hardcore audience.

Which will be there downfall, because when every hardcore moves onto the PS3 or 360, they'll have no one left after the casual fad dies.

  • I know a ton of people who just don't use there Wii anymore. But most are like me and won't sell it because of the downloads they've bought.

And it's not just Ninty who are ruining great franchises, look at Goldeneye.

With every new news update I hear about the remake, the more I cringe. They're totally fucking it up, because they're trying to remake it, into COD:MW. Which is like remaking Mario Bros. 3 on the Galaxy engine.

  • @GpB217 yeah, even though mm was a bit dark, kids still played it cuz it was zelda. remember ikana canyon?
