• Thanks for posting this.I was stationed there from 1981-87, 3 Combat Support Group (CBPO), . It's actually brought more memories than the first video I watched. Clark Air Base was a part of my life. Lots of good memories there.

  • Does anyone know Gary Dale in Air Force in Clark Base? Im looking for my father and my mother name is Josephine if that rings a bell to someone who was with my mom in those days.. And my father name is Gary dale, thats what my mom told me. 1984 to 1988 he was station around there but I know in 1987 he was there. I was born in1988

  • @tiggeer88 - Go to the US embassy or check the Facebook. Goodluck.

  • I had a good laugh when i saw Fields ave. I lived on that street for two months in 1968. It a dirt road full of potholes and mud puddles. There was a bar named Pussy Galore ( james bond 007) also the Galaxy.

  • My name is DOYLE PAULEY< Ret. AF Msgt. I was assigned to the Hospital Apr. 1961 - Apr. 1963 also Aug. 1968-June 1973. I remember some of the first wounded from Vietnam coming to Clark in early 1961 and the POWs in 1973. From 1971-1973 I was weekend Tour Guide at the Sliver Wing , an experience I will never forget. We had tours to the Rice Terraces,Bagio, Taal Vocano, Pagsanjan Falls ( my favorite) Manila Shopping, Manila Historic, Corregidor, Long Beach, 100 Islands. I lived behind 13th AF Hq.

  • I was one of the few navy personnel assigned to Clark. Our barracks were a short walk to the Coconut Grove. I used to eat at the restaurant, get my hair cut there, exchange pesos, and even go there on my lunch break to the Mirror Disco. I'll be returning to the Philippines in September. I hope to see some of the old clark. Good memories.

  • thanks for the memories. 85-89 3crs INS shop

  • Virgil, my friend: I commented on your video on the evacuation. I was with FEN from 1984-90 and we met a couple of times there. Your knowledge of the Philippines and video skills have created a fine record of the days when US forces were welcome in that wonderful country. My wife and I have returned several times since I retired from the Air Force and we will live out our final years in Tarlac. The changes since I left there in 1990 are mind blowing.

  • What happened to clark airbase when Mt. Pinatubo exploded?

  • Clark air base and its military reservation together with the Naval base Subic Bay was like a little america in the phillipines.

    thats pretty awesome.

i hope Noynoy Aquino will approve to open a new US base in Luzon and work togheter with Phillipine and Taiwanese army.

  • @skydreamerXIII Agreed!!

  • 3d SPG and SPS for 22 long ass months 85-87. MSgt Driver was first sergeant. Maez, Barnes, TC Reid, Sandy Alvarez k9 howie loves ya. • Clark AFB was the BEST MILITARY BASE period! I was a SP on base and this place was pure PARADISE! But alas, I guess it was not meant to be because just as I was having my maximum fun, Mt. Pinatubo erupted! Even to this day I feel a special connection to Filipino's.

  • Nice.

  • Thanks for the flash back. A1C DeWitt USAF Law Enforcement K-9 3rd SPS 79-80 D Flt.

  • Miss those days as a 11 year old in 86

living in the Clark surrounding area!

    such good memories!

I love the Filipino people,so friendly.

I still can remember at 11 a young

Filipina girls had a crush on me and i really loved a girl named danika and we came best friends! But then we went back to the United States in 89

I was so sad to leave my childhood Love!

Im still sad today.I just hope i can find her if i go back!!

  • I came back to Clark last summer, and sadly you would never even know it was the BEST military base in the World, as these video's show. Thanks Virgil for keeping a piece of History!

  • You will never appreciate this video unless it was a part of your life.

I'm glad i was one of them, i grew up in Angeles city and most of my life i was hanging around in Clark Air Base with my friends after working in Levin's Gym.

We use to hang around on Hill Area, where Wagner High is located, kelly Theater and Cafeteria, Burger King, Silver Wing.

We call our Friend in Korea in MAC Terminal,go to NCO Club for dancing. boy, those day are gone but there are still fresh in our memory.

    Nat

  • More bars around Clark AB: Buccaneer, Ceasars Palace, The Viking, Tropicana, Music Box, Sky Trax, Little Wheel, LBFM, Night Moves, Owls Nest, Show Boat, The Dormitory (Downtown AC), Abbey Road,

DD's Pizza, cigarettes sold one at a time, pepsi from a sari sari store sold in a baggy, wet T-shirt contests on Thursday nights, kids going into your pocket on Fields Ave when they thought you were drunk. Pork sticks, lumpia, sigsig, roast pig. Smell of aftershave in the barracks and sweat on honeyko.

  • Sky Trax is still open along Fields Avenue. and DD's Pizza at Diamond Subdivision...

Music Box closed down 2006 after a stabbing incident inside.

    Wet T-shirt on "special occasions".

  • This is funny. I used to deliver bench stock to the guy in glasses that was in the arts and crafts place. I think he is the "Wells" that had some of his photography on display.

What an incredible place. The HOG in Feb, Bars - Murphys, For Your Eyes Only, Holy City Zoo, Third Eye, Hard Rock Cafe, Flying Machine, Port Orient, Red Baron, Earthquake Mcgoons, Eight Ball, Fire Empire, Smut Hut, Firestone Empire, Puppy Lounge, Old Rangoon, Big Apple, Star Wars, Hobo Bar, Mirrors, The DMZ, cont.

  • The DMZ was sold a couple of months ago and was re-named. Third eye disco behind the gas station along perimeter road burned down years ago, I think even before Mt. Pinatubo erupted.

Mirrors is still open besides Clarkton Hotel along perimeter road towards Friendship gate

I think owls nest is still open. (I'll check)

The rest closed after the eruption.

  • my dad was stationed at clark in the 80's. thanks for posting this video. it sure brought back so much memories.

  • I was there for Cope Thunder in August (I think?) 1986 from Kunsan AB S. Korea "Wolfpack" (Yellow Tails). I loved the 2 weeks I was there, wish I had been assigned to Clark AB!!

  • thanks so much for sharing this!! I spend the best years of my childhood running around 31st place, right off Clark avenue in Clark AB. I almost miss the ultra-limited and edited tv channel, FEN-P. I miss the green, green, green everywhere, and typhoon season... THE TACO HUT!!! And I was so proud of my dad in his green flight suit! I miss going to the air shows and pointing when i knew it was his plane...

This is so great, thanks. Thanks so much!!

  • Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I spent my teenage years there from 1973-79. It was a very special place. :)

  • I was at Clark when I was around the age of 8 which would make that about 1980. I, like the rest of you had wonderful experiences at clark, the people and the kindness will always be with me. I did not want to come back to the states...

  • umalis nga ang amerikano, lalo rin dumami ang mga dayuhan dito!!!!!!!!!!! why????????? wala pa rin kalayaan!!!!!!!

  • Excellent video. Brought back many fond memories of Clark A.B. when I was stationed there from 1976-1977. Kind of disappointed that there was no footage of the Medical Center though since it was my work area.

  • wow. i was a baby in 1977 :)

  • Thanks for posting! First video I've seen of the place since I left. I was stationed there from 1986-1989, and this video brought back some memories. Look forward to more.

Hope to offer video of the maingate SM mall and scenes of Mt.Pinatubo Lake, recorded last June. Happy New Year..Virgil Hopper

  • Those were not planes of the Philippines Air force those were USA military aircraft. However, those planes back then could of been used on joint operations and in defense of the Philippines.

The Philippines has more then just the s-211, they also have: Aermacchi SF.260, OV-10 Bronco, T-33 Shooting Star, C-130 Hercules, and several different kinds of attack helicopters.

  • Philippines has F16s???? How many were F16s back then?? Today we only have 4 jets. S.211

  • Oh my goodness this brought a tear to my eye, too! Seeing everything from the Silver Wing, to the Bowling Alley, Ceramics Center, the buildings and streets... Oy. I miss it. Thank you for this. I'm saving it to my favorites and will be sharing with my family.

  • I sure do miss Clark A.B.. i was there for 2 tours 81083 and 85-89... wish that base was still there or at least the US Gov could go back now... many many memories i have watching your video.. brought a tear to my eye.. thank you

  • Ay, miss na miss ako ang bayan ko

  • been there last year and its so clean and beautiful....

  • Thank you for this wonderful look back. I knew one of the girls at the mini-golf, we went to Wagner H.S. together. Thank you for the memories!!!

  • These features were produced to be enjoyed. It is so good knowing these efforts allow you and many others to look into your past in such a way to remember friends and goodtimes.

Soon, these and other features will be offered on DVD.

Thank you again for such kind words...

    Virgil W. Hopper, Sr.

  • This brings back some good memories. I was stationed at Clark from 1981 to 1985.

  • A joy to see again a very important part of my life, my eighteenth year, in Angeles, me a foreigner, a Yank ['round eye', hee-hee], among the Filipinos.

What warm loving memories of these marvelous folks in Pampanga.

So glad to learn that Angeles has grown and improved her peoples' lives since this bad time.

  • I live here in Angeles City, Philippines.

  • Same here. Keng Don Boni ku

  • We used to live in Angeles City right outside the gate to Clark AB. :) This video brought back so many memories for me. I realize you posted this 9 months ago, but felt compelled to say hello to someone living there. :) So... HELLO!

  • I just want to thank you for posting this "Before Mt. Pinatubo" video. I grew in the Philippines in Balibago Angeles City. It just breaks my heart how it changed after the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. It's really wonderful to see it all again.

  • CRAP!! Clark, Angeles City, Balibago is a hell of alot better it is now compared when the USAF was here. Angeles has prospered BIG TIME!! in the past 15yrs after Pinatubo.

  • The former Clark Air Base looks like a rundown dump since the volcano. The Expo Center looks like a joke and the airport has what, 2 or 3 flights a week. Clean that place up and maybe even I would come back for a visit.

  • i FLY OUT OF cLARK WEEKLY TO kOREA. TO BE EXACT THERE ARE 101 FLIGHTS OUT OF cLARK WEEKLY AND GROWING. fLY ALLOVER aSIA ON 5 BUDGET AIRLENES

I fly out of Clark frequently. six airlines for now and 101 weekly flights and more contracting with gov't to enter Clark. Lots of foreign investment and about 45K employees. Texas Inst is investing over 1B $ in their new consolidated chip center. Very nice still and getting better.
