@graffitionthefloor Except they haven't sold out. Their music has evolved. For the better or worse, that is up to the listener. However, this band was started in hopes to spread a message. And they still are preaching that same damn message to this day, so fuck off if you think they sold out..I enjoy all their music, and trust me, nothing has changed except the sound, which again, =/= selling out. THEY HAVEN'T GIVEN UP!
Just because they tried doing something different doesn't mean they sold out. They made a softer album, gained some more fans and followed it up with another album closer to their original style.
they've produced a lot of albums and have been touring for a long time, that would have to have an impact on tims voice and now they would need to compensate for that.
if you want to see a sell out have a look at good charlotte.
Why is it that every time a band mildly changes sound, or has more than 2 or 3 CDs, that people are like..."Ribbit ribbit ribbit why they sold out ribbit ribbit?"...I can go on, but I won't...Good song...:)...
@lukebailey457 its about selling out? ok genius...what is selling out? u mean like punk rock bands selling out? like rise against's latest album lol...u think thats what hes singing about? well the beauty of music is that its open to interpretation thru different ears...and second, u dont think that women sell out? wives? sisters, mothers? brothers, best friends? sometimes selling out is giving up dude...think about it...not everything is a stupid fanzine cliche
@markiss430 Rise Against haven't sold out, so if you think they have you are sadly mistaken. They donate a lot of their profits to animal rights and stuff like that. So don't ever say they have or will sell out. And if you say that "the good thing about music is its open for anyone to interpret it how they want" so if that is true, which it basically is, why are you telling people they are all "probably wrong"? Please don't be a hyporcrit.
@lukebailey457 (sarcasm?) The song title clearly points to it being about straight edge- "selling out" is a term for turning your back on that lifestyle- possibly about a particular friend who did (who could have been female) Anyways. Nice that this video's comments are mostly about how RA didnt "sell out"- in either sense
Just want to pipe in and say if you reckon Rise Against Sold out, then you don't understand this song, humans or counter-culture ideology. It's not about not wanting things, or being a drop out because it's cool. It's about getting what you want through your own terms. Something these guys never gave up. Get a life and get a clue.
Lmfao... They may have some merchandise, but look at other bands... Paper, notebooks, pencils, buttons, stickers... The list goes on...And Rise Against donates the shit out of their profits to animal protection rights/groups and nature conservancy groups...
Next time, read up before someone else makes you look like a dipshit...
They release singles because they've gotten big, and people want to get a hold of all the shit they can as soon as they can, if you think getting big is selling out, you're obviously mistaken...
They haven't changed shit in their music, The lyrics have stayed the same throughout the years, the albums always have a majority of songs relating to government... And a few relating to relationships, friends or otherwise...
You're just one of those people that thinks, "since they got big, I'm going to call everyone who listens to them a poser, or a mainstream kid... I listen to REAL music, like Hirax and Voetsek, no mainstream for me!"
Like I said, a generous amount of their profits gets invested into animal rights...
How do you know? The bigger they get, the less I trust in them. They SAY, they don't need the money. They don't want to buy bigger houses, cars and stuff. But there is no proof for it. Rise Against going mainstream however is a first sign of them just using animal rights, government, war and racism to make profit. Their sound didn't change? Don't make me laugh, they sounded MUCH different back then. They once said they want to be a sting...where did the sting go?
You're starting to pull some random shit out, like houses and cars, they're buying that shit because they can afford it now, and fucking good for them, so because they can enjoy their life they're bad people? LOVE YOUR LOGIC...
They haven't said they "don't need money".
Mainstream doesn't mean selling out... Mainstream means everyone's heard them, or at least heard of them.
My Chemical Romance for instance, changed to fit into "emo" crowd and donates nothing. SELLOUTS
Your point is very arguable. The band at this point, was not completely political, but i agree that these lyrics are kind of contradictory. Its not about being big, just because your big doesn't mean you sold out, but THEY ARE AGAINST CORPORATE AMERICA, which they joined when they signed to Dreamworks. This album is more focused on living your life, and being positive, not abiding by the rules of society and overcoming the negative things. Thats my onlyproblem, but it opens them to more people
k being on a major label makes you a sellout? are you f***ing with me? to fucking the good Lord man, have you listened to anything these guys have ever done? There's always a cause, a meaning, behind everything they do. PETA campaigns, activism, these guys are not sell-outs. Stop fucking saying that.!!
Who cares if they 'sell-out' they're trying to get a message through to make this a better world. It's actually GOOD if they do. Not even a bad thing. Rise Against is the best.
How damn ironic is this song...
