  • Also, this area was flooded after Billy's so- body was buried here so even the actual location of the casket is unknown.

  • Did he really call Billy and his PALS bank robbers? I do hope that later on you learned they never robbed any banks.

  • sad thing is, (along with the spelling & grammar of many of these comments) is that I've never been to Billy's grave site even though I live just 4 hours away from there....there seems 2 be not much history here in Ft. Sumner...I have, however been 2 Lincoln, NM....now if you want 2 learn A LOT of history behind William H. Bonney, then I suggest you take a trip 2 Lincoln, b/c there is much more 2 learn there than in Ft. Sumner. The only reason this place is famous is b/c it's where he was killed

  • Thats very disrespectful to make a mans grave a tourist attraction no matter if that really is Henry McCarthy aka billy the kid or not he was still a human being and deserves respect like everyone else he payed the price for what he did he stayed alive just long enough to see all his friends die then supposedly was killed by a man that use to be his friend so he at least deserves to R.I.P without people coming and taking pictures videos and that stuff

  • billy is not dead he lived, billy barlow is buried there, Brushy Bill Roberts is the real billy, look into things more

  • here is a lil thing about billy the word pals was put on there by pat garret they think cuz after he was shot a single man snuck into the gave yard and put that word there but me i dont think that he shot billy cuz pat garretss horse went missing at the gave and billy siad before he died he would not still from a man he did not like so if he robbed u he liked u so i dont think garret shot him but put one of billys pals bodys in there cuz almost all of his friends where dead

  • I remember when I went here in my 18-wheeler. Got alot of good pictures. It was early in the morning with the sun coming up. I had my single action 44. magnum and laid it on top of his tombstone with a purple and yellow sky in the background. It is a great pic.

  • they wunt bank robbers and did steal a few cattle thats only ater theys boss was kild by them no go scum bags in the murphy gang was a merchant war turned blood bath "PALS"

  • Yes I no it's disraspectful but someone needs to open the bitch up and see who's really in there

  • they wasnt bank robbers they were rustling cattle

  • That is not Billy the kid grave. It common knowledge that patsy shot someone else

  • @bobdavejim1 yes if i was getting paid and my best friend was a criminal

  • Lucky Luke brought me here.

  • Peter Maxwell, local landowner, was a trusted friend of Sheriff Pat Garrett. Maxwell was key to making the positive identification of Billy (William H. Bonney) the Kid. He was in the room when the fatal shot was fired.

  • @150rboy yea pat garret definitely did not kill him he killed some one else that was proven it is BRUSHY BILL they took dna samples that matched to William Bonney or other wise known as what ....BILLY THE KID

  • @LiLMonsta110 Thats all fake, Brushy Bill was just a hoax. Brushy Bill was just an broke old man who with his attorney claimed he was Billy the Kid for money and fame. Besides they don't have no real DNA from the kid or family members so and DNA results would be inclusive. Pat Garret killed Billy the Kid in July of 1881. And that's the truth. And I bet you also think Elvis is alive.

  • @150rboy well henry mcCarty was said to be billy's real name, and when he first went to mexico was called william h. bonney, and i do Not think he was killed by pat, i think pat let billy go and said he killed him and billy live the rest of his life in old mexico

  • Is Billy really in the grave? Is it empty? Or is someone else in his grave? One would like it if indeed bushy Billy Roberts was the kid.

  • Yeah people are just dieing ta get into those place's.Someone stole the grave stone of Billy they found it in Oklahoma -- Reason for cage --- was that Billys Harley out front.Nice bottum on the girl in brown shirt. - M.F.F.M Six 1%er SS NOMAD - VIDA NEW MEXICO - Was in jail in Mule Shoe for doing 120 something passed two state troopers there LOL

  • Wow! At 0:03 i see a spirit come out of the trees so fast that it seems to shoot across the road. It stays in front of the car and is wavering all over the road. It looks like it has wings. I see it at 0:24 by the top of the roof. An orb comes down off the roof at 1:07 and go into the wall. I see a lot of orbs at 1:23 on the porch roof. They're shooting all over the place. They're gonna escort you to the back to the cemetery.

  • have you been to the bar he used to hide in on the mountain?

  • I hate to see people make money over a dead person‘s fame.

  • this pisses me off, garrett didnt kill billy i think garrett got the wrong man thats why his book was such a bomb and there was different accounts of what kind of gun billy was carrying at the time of his death not only that the judge that offered the reward$ waited like a year later to give him the $ b/c even the judge didnt believe him i think garrett told billy to leave and never show his face again, therefore giving patsy the fame and $ of killing the kid

  • Billy the kid did not die at the age of 21. DO you really think his best friend shot him in the back??? COuld you shoot your best friend in the back?

  • @bobdavejim1 yea wasn't it like a sheriff while he was asleep??

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahaha these people have no idea what they're talking about, they weren't bank robbers, and that cage is there to stop someone from robbing his grave, and the word "pals" was chizzled in one night when it was dark by what was thought to be one of his surviving members

  • 4:16 all i heard was "he died as he did" and "no that was Justin timberlake"

  • The museum owner is a wanker making money of Billy the Kids death but thankyou for uploading it. Also has anyone read Billy the Kid biography written by Pat Garret I have and its very well written, Garret never at any point calls himself a hero. To all who haven't read it I would recomend it, as it tells the truth and points out Billy had so many good points as well as a few bad.

  • I don't know if anyone has written this here or not, but Peter Maxwell owned the house where Billy was shot. Sheriff Pat Garret stayed the night there looking for the Kid and Billy wandered in sometime in the night to ask Pete for food. That is when Garret shot him dead, unless of course you believe in the legend of Brushy Bill. Which... I do...

  • THERE MIGHT BE A LOGICAL EXPLANATION FOR THIS BUT AROUND 2:54 IT SOUNDS LIKE A GUN BEING COCKED OR A REVOLVER .MAYBE BILLY GOT ANGRY AT WHAT THE GIRL SAID... CREEPY

  • hell yea Billy the Kid!!! long live the outlaws!!!

  • Nice video. Too bad you all didn't stop by the Bosque Redondo Reservation which is eye site from the gravesite of Billy the Kid. It's the final location for the thousands of Navajo that survived the Long Walk in the mid to late 1860s.

  • @dmaradona10 maybe we'll get to do that next time we're through NM. I'm hoping to get that way again in April. We take the show West to California....should be fun!

    Kevin

  • @magicguy72 Cool, if you're a reader pick up Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides (it's a magical book);), and if you ever head up toward Taos, NM, there is the gravesite of Kit Carson. He should be the most famous man in NM, only what he did was ten times worse then anything the Kid did, so the State of NM doesn't celebrate him as much.

  • Interesting video.

Billy the Kid is still a popular icon.

I'm sure the bars are around the graves to protect them.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I wish they'd make a film about Billy the Kid. I mean a realistic film about him, how he was raised in NY city in an Irish neighborhood and then moved to New Mexico. Not just another dead end action film like the ones made today. I mean a masterpeice that wont be forgotten. Ridley Scott or James Cameron should direct it. Something that will be as famous as Gladiator or Titanic. It would be Epic.

  • The museum owner pisses me off

  • Pete Maxwell was the Rancher who owned the house where Billy was shot....Billy and Pete's Daughter kinda had a fling.....Rumor has it, that Pete snitched on Billy, and told the authorities that he was back in Ft. Sumner, because he wanted his daughter to marry a more "sophisticated" man, not an outlaw...Pat Garret was also a bar tender in Ft. Sumner, and also may have went on a couple of cattle rustling trips with Billy, so he knew Billy better than some claim.

  • i live in NM and sadly havent gone yet, his story and his life was crazy, i also dont believe garrett killed billy.

  • Great video, thanx

  • did you go to lincoln and see the courthouse and how billy escaped

  • @XxOriOJoExX1 we did not make that trip...maybe some other time. I'm planning a trip back to NM in April.

  • @magicguy72 oh wow thats very cool i always wanted to go to new mexico just to see lincoln and how billy escaped from the courthouse

  • been there and thats how it was for me there was no one there

  • My family owns farm land that has been in the family for more then 120 years and one year many many years ago my great great great grand parents where living there they had a group of people spend the night and they fed them. in the morning my family went to the barn where they spent the night and they found a $20 that said "Thanks, Billy" It so happends that this money was a bank that was robbed a few days before that night. I am not joking. I will try to post a pic of the money

  • what a horribe tacky place - well it is in amerca after all

  • @innit27 : Oh I see, this is a "tacky place" but all those wonderful tourist attractions you have in Western Sahara are spectacular? Abandoned buildings, dirt roads, desert lands, dangerous cities, and not a single "tourist attraction" to be found....hmmm, let's go visit Western Sahara!

  • @magicguy72 Hey! Don't forget about the bomb craters and the kidnaping terrorists!...LOL

  • That museum guy seems like an asshole

  • I'm related to Billy the Kid :O

  • @PianoTasteLikeMusic

    So am I.

We are either family or one of us is lieng.

  • you can't take picture but the uas can tax the hell out of you

  • They had to lock uo Billy thr kid some how?

  • ok..how does people can be so sure that this is the grave of billy the kid... i heared about that they digup the grave of billy the kid, tok the DNA test, and it was not the compatable with the DNA that they already had from some reletives of billy...explane please...

  • I was stationed at Cannon AFB from 01-05. Stopped here many times as it was on the way to Albuquerque. I have to say, didn't care for NM I was there, but I miss it now! Denver is a damn zoo

  • @mal757 what was your job, I had buddies that were stationed there at that time, A-10 weapons Loaders

  • I think brushy bill really could have been the kid.

  • billy the kid had winchester model 1887 or repter and magnum of some sort

i bet you they are in a x shape in his tomb

  • @doggiemanw Billy the Kid had a Winchester 1873 44 cal.

  • They were'nt bank robbers, cool vid. hopfully i can see this one day :\

  • @lennonfan1981 its ok... do you know that his body was washed away in a pecos river flood back in the 1910's?

  • didn't the governer of new mexico give billy the kid a pardon?

  • Do you really think Billy is there???

  • Its a shame they dont know where his bones really are. The Pecos river flood washed away the original tombstones and what you are seeing is just a tourist attraction. His bones are there, but they really dont know where.

No way to get a DNA match because they dont know where his mothers bones are either. Her grave was also moved many years ago to make room for progress. Shame, just a shame. And NO, Brushy Bill Robers IS NOT Billy the Kid. Bill was only 2 yrs old when the kid was famous.

  • I really want to go through there on the way back from California (staying for summer) to Kansas (my home)...we passed signs for it on the way out...I really like the video, but no offense, you should've watched the movie Young Guns before shooting it. I couldn't told you who the Pals were, as well as Pete Maxwell by the time I was about 8 years old...grew up watching the movie and was a HUGE fan!:D

  • RIP BILLY...FOR TODAY IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH 129 YEARS AGO

  • @lennonfan1981

His tombstone was stolen and recovered three times before they finally decided to close off his grave with that fence. Sux i know.

  • would'nt ya love to know the truth. Is billy really there.or what? hay!

    paula australia

  • The cage is to keep people out.Billy's grave marker has been stolen before.

  • I am a native New Mexican and never get tired of the history. You want to see the true west come to N.M.

  • @Lessar77 youre right about that brothah, just moved her from michigan and i love it, and i am an enthusiast of the wils west and the southwest saludos no que pasaaaaaaaa arrrrribaaaa nuevo mexico!

  • Thats where they think they are burried but Bill the Kid was I believe Brushy Bill that died in Hico, Texas in 1950.. I know there is a strong opposition to that theory but, o well...

  • great upload,i would love to visit there, but im a little far away, lol.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I have wanted to see the alleged site of Billy's grave for about 15 years now but I've never made it over to New Mexico or America from my country yet, so seeing your video was really the next best thing. I loved watching it and maybe I'll get to see it myself one day. Thank you : )

  • Why didn't you just give the museum owner 100 bucks and do your documentary shooting pictures inside?

  • @awesomejohnnet We tried - he didn't want any pictures taken inside the museum - sadly. There was some cool stuff in there.

  • @magicguy72 Thank you anyway for your efforts and for sharing your video on youtube.

  • @magicguy72 there aint jack-shit inthere to take pics of. Been in there before and I did get a few pics, but as far as cool stuff in there...WRONG. Its a waste of time and money.

  • I've been there, I just don't remember when. Who is Billy The Kid, I have no clue who he is. Ha

  • Billy & his pals weren't bank robbers and don't be such snobs. New Mexico is an AWESOME place to visit although some spots like Fort Sumner are a bit dead.

  • @ttsousa Actually, I love New Mexico and travel through there often. It's one of my favorite states - not a snob, I promise!

  • @ttsousa Your right billy and his 'pals' were at first regulaters that worked for the a man, and the law, billy did not rob banks or stores, thats what made him famous, he stole cattle. and was in the lincoln county war,

  • If somehow comes out that billy the kid was brushy bill, that grave wont be worth anything, :P

  • If somehow comes out that billy the kid was brushy bill, that grave wont be worth anything, :P

  • @lennonfan1981

There's a cage because his tombstone has been stolen and recovered on more than one occasion. It's there to protect the tombstone.

  • Thats not The Kids Grave sorry to say, but whats cool is that he was actually there at one point or another. The kid died in Waco Texas just before his 91st birthday, and those are not acutally grave sights. A major flood wiped out Fort Sumner and the tomb stones all floated away so they removed what bodies they could find and moved them all to a mass grave. Want the full story just let me know. Id be glad to tell ya.

  • You said the Kid was a bank robber? The Kid wasn't a bank robber. He did do a little rustling of horses and cattle every now and then but he was no bank robber. He was a product of the Lincoln County War. For Chists sake, GIVE THE KID A BREAK.

  • omg even his grave is jailed poor kid

  • lol

  • @cassandra414 LoL!!!

  • The Kid was a punk

  • I also want to go .. I am a big fan of Billy the Kid :D

  • The grave is empty. Sorry.

  • Fantastic video, I have written about Billy the Kids grave on hubpages and I think your video is such an excellent portrayal of what is there that I have put a link to your video on my page.

  • I'm glad you found it interesting. I definitely had a great time at the grave. It's a very cool place that we just happened to stumble upon - and glad we did.

  • I'm waiting for Billy to pop up out of his gave and scream "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!?"

  • hes not even burried right in that spot...... hes just around there somewheres... if u bury underneath his grave, he wont be there..... i know this

  • what killed billy the kid

  • pat garret

  • How I understand it is the Pat Garret was in a dark room in a hotel when Billy The Kid walked in. Billy didn;t know that Pat Garry was in the room when a guy said, "Thats him!". Pat Garret shot him in the back, but no one knows if that was REALLY Billy the Kid. A man in his 80's came up in 1948 or 49 and said he was Billy the Kid. I heard the man had scares of when he was shot. All the man asked for is a pardon, but he never got it and died only 4 days later.

  • PART 2: If the 80 year old man, Brushy Bills, was Billy the Kid. Then the man in the grave is't Billy the Kid.

  • Brushy Bill was not Billy the Kid ... it was just an old impostor seeking fama.billy the kid spoke Spanish and could read and write, while Brushy Bill was illiterate ... I also believe it is almost impossible at that time people was so 'long ... so if Brushy Bill claimed to be Billy the Kid in 1948 should have had more than ninety years ... I think the real Billy the Kid is really died in 1881.

  • Awesome video. Thank you. --:)Rod

  • lol "no that's the boy BAND king"

  • good to watch if your curious about billy the kid

  • 0.0 A bunch of little kids under rocks that are buried near Billy The Kid. I want to cry.

    But- wow.

  • Great vid very cool

  • or that wasent hes relatives

  • the design of these gravesites make it hard for me to believe these people are really buried there.

  • There was a flood there yrs ago and lots of things got lost there so yes, there are probably multiple errors in that cemetary.

  • 3:06 you said bank robbers WTF! They were not bank robbers they were kids who watched their boss and father figure get gunned down. They may have stole some cattle and horses but they never robbed a bank! The man they stole the cattle from had connections to the Santa Fe Ring so they figured why not, and the horses.....well billy never stole a horse from a man he didn't like, if he didn't like you he would just kill ya.

  • Wrong, if he didn't like ya, well he wouldn't even bother with ya...

  • @davidjackson3164 nah he'd just kill ya.

  • lol you watch to many movies man...

  • REGULATORS

  • The cage is to prevent the headstone from being stolen. Its been recovered about four times

  • Yeah, it's the only cage to ever hold The Kid.

  • @whbon73 Ah but that cage doesn't hold the kid. A big flood hit that cemetary and washed the graves away. The tombstones were replaced but nobody knew exactly where they belonged. Whether that stone is over Billy's grave is a complete unknown. But it ain't likely.

  • There is some show I watched that they dug his

body up and did blood test with his living relatives and it never matched.

I wish I could remember the name of the show.

  • yeh i seen it 2 cant remember the name tho lol

  • they did they becase of vandlisum

  • He is, indeed, a real American hero.

Those who are ignorant of history are not aware that he was just a stuggling kid who, through fate, wound up taking on the Santa Fe Ring, a combination of crooked federal officials who ran the Territorial government, and local lawmen and merchants.

Remember this was an orphan kid who was multilingual and could read and write and a rarity in that time and place.

He fought the Santa Fe Ring to a standstill and became a national hero. Still is.

  • my thoughts about the caging around billy the kids grave, its probably my guess,is to stop people trying to get momentos for there gain.

  • ive been there

  • tanbien mexico tuvo sus cabronsitos pancho villa .joaquin murrieta. panchito guzman en cumpas sonora fueron tanbien bandoleros

  • Why is there a cage around his grave site?

  • There is where my idol is buried!!! :D

  • I love Billy the Kid! He is my absolute idol! Many people say he was bad and a cold blooded killer, but to me he was a great hero. He didn't kill for the fun of it, he had good reasons. He only killed bad guys who killed his friends and his guardian (John Tunstall). He also had to kill for his own survival............. Billy is at peace with God now :) I love you Billy! <3 <3 <3 <3 xoxoxoxoxoxo

  • so are those the coffins that are showing

  • I love the "Kid" He was just really misunderstood He has been a part of my life for over 20 years now and I love going to New Mexico to see his haunts and hideouts

  • billy was not got killed by pat pat was billy bud that was just a hobo he just passed off at billy

  • i love the story of billy the kid. he is my FAV outlaw. he might have not gotten justice the right way, but God bless ya Billy.

  • We took a picnic of chicken, potato salad, and other picnic supplies and had lunch here one day. I like the sound of the New Mexico wind blowing over the land. New Mexico! You have to love it.

  • I have been there myself. If you go to the grave take a piece of a stick about three to four feet long and a couple pieces of bubblegum. Chew bubblegum and place on end of stick and retrieve all the dimes, quarters and fifty cent pieces people have tossed in there. Billy would love you for it.

  • Hey Guys, Just to inform:

Billy the Kid's Grave was dug up in the 1970's and nothing was found. The Grave was considered "fake". It was only to cover that Pat Garret actually killed. We are not sure if he was really shot dead in the back right above the heart. It was only him and Billy in the House. If you read this Thanks. :)

  • Uh.Actually the people who own the land won't let anyone dig him up so I know you're lying even if the government came they can keep them away.

  • of course there wouldnt be anything, just dust more than likely, they didnt embalm him, just threw him in and covered him up

  • pals was carver in there by somone who was obsed with young guns movie i have no idea who he is burried next to

  • It was carved way before the young guns movies.

  • Very good video.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • i love billy the kid but i love your truck evan more wat do you lot do are you a band of some sort or do you allways take that much stuff with you on holiday thanks for the video eny way

  • billy the kid was one of the best i will go there one day

  • i have persoanally been here it is about a hours drive from my mom's it is somethin else and the bars are there because people kept stealin the tombstone and yeah the jury is still out on if he was really buried here or died at a later timer at a older age

  • i was told that this grave was dug up during the 1970's and no body was found. do you have any info on that?

  • The people that own the land wouldn't let anyone dig him up so that isn't true.

  • it was so cool.i love billy the kid. so im going to go there someday.

  • billys dead is still a mystery to me, look at the beginning of young gun part 2...but hes my favo outlaw

  • He liked the movie better. Wise guy.LOL!

  • Mullen, Billy The Kid was a outlaw 1859-1881, shot dead by Sherriff Pat Garrett, although theres some controversy surounding his death. Rumurs saying that he didn't really kill Billy The Kid and lived to be 91 years old. Henry Mccarty , his real name. Garrett was shot and killed 27 years later.

  • Thanks, that was really neat. Nice with the human touch. I know I'll probably never get there myself.

  • i have a question if Billy the Kid actually did die where's the picture of the guy in the coffin before burring him, usually before an outlaw dies they take a picture of him in the coffin, the only picture of Billy the Kid was the one with the gun... just a thought, tell me what you think.

  • hi i liked your video. can you tell me if this was a original cemetary from the billy the kid days? and also is the fort sumner museum a proper place that was there during that time or did they build it after he died? also y is the place all empty? where r the saloons and buildings and roads and towns they used? or have they all been broken down during the years?

  • that is a good question.

  • Who is billy the kid. i mean i heard of him but i dont really know who he is. can someone please tell me. i was looking at the freddy krueger grave site and saw this.

  • Well from what i heard, there was a huge flood there and a bunch of bodies got washed away, since they were only buried in pine boxes. But to be honest I hope his body isnt there, people tend to forget that he was a real man, not a legend. And its pretty bad when people use a man's grave as a tourist attraction. Its really sad.

  • There's not a lot of "touristy" things in New Mexico. And, while I respect your comment that he was a "real man, not a legend," I believe Billy the Kid accomplished exactly what he wanted with his life - to become a legend. He would be proud to be a "tourist attraction." It is no more sad than the Martin Luther King exhibit in Atlanta, the Holocaust Museums around the world, or the Holy Lands of Israel. What IS sad is that each of us forget the impact we are having on our world NOW and later

  • i dont think it was him pat garret shot and killed

  • William Bonney is my fav. Historical character. I've seen where's his name is spelled with two "N" 's and then with one. I can't seem to remember his real dad's name, can anyone help me out? I seem to think that "Billy" didn't even actually know his real dad's name? Let me know. Thanks R.I.P. Billy The Kid!

  • i've read a lot about him and tried to follow what he did as best i can and it seems to me that no one knows who is actual father is.

  • I'm stunned! My head spins! My fingers are all in a knot. Wow! And, still some idiot is trying to make money out of it! That really is what free enterprise is all about. God bless America!

  • Ok, I grew up in Fort Sumner, lived about 3 miles from this place. It is true that there was a flood and all of that. There were maps drawn of the grave yard before the flood and stones were placed according to the map. Also still to this day farmers near by plow up the fields and sometimes uncover skulls and bodies, most of them were indians that passed away at the Bosque Redondo. If they were to dig up the area, there would be bones and bodies of who knows who, they were burried in a pine box

  • Lived in FT Sumner for a long time! family still lives there. Used to jump the fence and dare our friends to slip through the bars and dance on the grave.

    ^^

  • If you know anything about billy the kid is actual grave was flooded and his body propably isnt even in there!

  • Billy the kid was buried in a unmarked grave......What a pile of shit...

  • Just so you know, it's not an unmarked grave if there is a headstone with his name on it.

  • What a shitty resting spot....if he is really buried there.

  • Billy "the kid"

The First "real" gangster of all time.

    R.I.P William H Barney

  • ITS WILLIAM H BONEY DUMB SHIT

  • hahha as if you said barney

  • Man that place was out in the middle of nowhere...lol Thanks for posting though..very interesting.

  • Heres the story of William a Bonny...

he grew up had a couple drinks ate some food left town got shot left became a pornstar and got murderd by a cop.
