@DaroKzm Where you born in 1685? How to play this music is a matter of individual taste, not a scientific method. I loved it and think it's heavenly hypnotic.
The imitative technique and polyphonic texture of this piece is perfectly balanced. The recorders add a great tone to the piece. Thank you for this, it's very beautiful.
Me and my two friends plan on playing this song. I'm gonna play oboe, and they're gonna play flute and clarinet. From what I've heard I REALLY look forward to it.
How often dis I listen or played this contrapunctus ? Several times a day for the last years, at the keyboard, in string or mixed quartets ...
And each time, I did not believe what I was playing. It is beautiful, obvious, perfect. It can be grave and light, a powerful song and a tormented lament ...
I do not agree. Dramma has nothing to do in this kind of pieces, because it's baroque, not romantic era. I agree that the recorder has dynamics...but they are poor and distort the right pitch. Furthermore, again, dynamics are not marked because this kind of music was originally thought for an organ (yes, i know that AoF could be played for any instrument) but everyone that knows a little about Bach (The Great Master) and his era, should know that in that time pipe organs had not...
Excellent performance. You should share your scores to the rest of the world for us to play and promote the recorder as a serious instrument. In my country is difficult to find music for the recorder
bravo, wall played, but I note that at the beginning each player take his "fiato" in a different point: why? I think that the "fiato" have a significance and that you had to cut the melody all at the same moment, or not?
Serene and gentle--very nice! Have you heard the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet's recorder version of the AoF? This sounds every bit as good as they do, and perhaps even a little better, since your instruments are less shrill than the Quartet's.
Great job! Keep putting out more of the Contrapuncti!
While watching this video I am suddenly depressed when thinking about how lovely the recorder is yet how shrill it sounds when played at modern and even so-called 'baroque' pitches--they really do deserve a lower tone when played in so serious an environment as with an ensemble.
It does indeed underline Bach's genius that whatever instrument or ensemble plays The Art of Fugue, the result tends to be ineffable. This is no exception. Bravo.
I've only got one thing to say, "that was bloody excellent!". Interesting to note how each member of the quartet takes a scheduled rest during the performance. Mr Bach was indeed a clear genius.

What are the recorders your quartet used? Was it Bass, Tenor, Soprano, and Sopranino?

Unsere Flötengruppe (Paul - Gerhard) spielt das Stück auch gerade:-),jedoch...
spielen Sie es in der Mitte nicht zu schnell?Um dann bei diesem "Teufelston" riardando einzubauen? Trotzdem gut. Applaus! :-)

I have heard the ALSQ's recording. They are an excellent recorder quartet.
Thanks for your suggestion. I'm going to arrange a concert that only performs The Art of Fugue.

Lovely performance of a lovely work.
One question -- do you have your instruments tuned a bit flat? It seems so to me, but maybe my ears are being weird...
p0lyph0ny 3 years ago
Your ears are excellent.
The instruments are low pitch.
A=415Hz
