@En3myArea I believe it was rank A to proceed, but sadly I never got to experience all of stage 5. My ps2 crashed EVERY SINGLE TIME I get to the cutscene that shows a door first. I even bought 4 different and clean copies of the game.

Best Contra in the series. Also the hardest one in term of finishing the game to 100%. (dying once, and you've got to restart all over again. gotta have to reach 100% in every stage.)

Only thing i missed was the all mighty Spread Gun. But being able to start out with all weapons and the ability to switch between them anytime you want to, also adds a good portion of strategy into this game.

@En3myArea Disagree. The best one was Contra III. Contra III and IV didn't have that stupid hit-rate system that grades you on your performance. We shouldn't have to be graded on our performance on a CONTRA game.

Without the grade system, i would have already finished this game many times on the hardest mode possible. So this way, it's even more special to see someone beat this game to 100%! :)

@RocMegamanX Yes, it's true. To complete this game to 100% is pure torture. I personally love it when games are incredibly difficult. But i can only speak for myself. Of course i agree with you about the grade system. I don't miss it whenever i play any of the other Contra games. But that is what makes Shattered Soldier so special! Not like the game is forcing you to complete it to 100%. That is all up to you! So, if you are looking for a challenge of the superlative, here you go!

@RocMegamanX Thats right, if i remember correctly. It is now more than three years ago when I last played the game, so i'm not quite sure what rank you needed to unlock the next higher stages. But playing through the game normally is like a walk through Candy Land, compared with the challenges that await you afterwards. Even more so if you're familiar with the Contra series. For me, it's the best contra in the series. At least in terms of challenges! other wise it's Contra IV.

Neo Contra and Shattered Soldier are two totally different Contra experiences. Neo is an overhead-perspective shooter (think oldschool Zelda), while Shattered is like the traditional Contra games that ran in the linear 2D, right to left perspective.

If you were planning on a purchase, definitely go with Shattered Soldier. It's the better game and somewhat of an actual sequel to the previous Contra games story-wise. Neo sucks as a game PERIOD in my opinion.

Hey it was good, but had all the faults of the old-school games. You had 3 and only 3 lives to beat the entire game with, there were no "dodge" moves, and a big one is that there was no Spread shot/shotgun weapon.

Limited number of lives isn't a fault. It's a key element of these types of games.

And there is too a dodge move, there's 4 of them, you can move left, you can move right, you can duck, and you can jump.

Yeah in england it was called Probotector and it was basicly a rip off of the contra series, except for shattered soldier. We got that over here.

Probotector was Exactly the same game but the good guys and all the bad guys in the game were robots.

Then a few years after i got it, i played the US version. Which was alot better and made more sence. The euro market is a whore.
