Oh man, this song came out the same year I started in Elementary school . My mom used to play this all the time and we lived right next to a little cafe jook-joint and thy played Joe Simone's music all the time. Talk about bringing back memories, boy, it's like this was just yesterday. When one compares this with today's garbage, it makes you miss those days all the more! Swash6180, whoever you are, God bless you.
JUST MISSED!!! "Power of Love" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 15 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1972. This was Mr. Simon's 23rd record to have made the Hot 100!!!
"The Chokin' Kind" was written by Harlan Howard, spent 12 weeks in the charts, and had sold one million copies by 16 June 1969.[1] In addition, Simon was given a Grammy Award in 1970 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.[
Man I remember my Aunt used to play this record when my grandparents would go to church, one day they came home early & heard her playing this record & shouted turn that mess off!! Ain't nobody got power but god! I was only 12 or 13 then & I have never forgotten that. It was funny then & still is.
Thanks for posting this song. I love all of the comments posted. I was 12 when this came out. What I really loved was the horns. I would hum to the horns more than I would listen to the lyrics. These sure are some good memories, though. As for as Joe goes, my memory goes as far back as Drowning In The Sea of Love. Talk about S.O.U.L Not Neo-soul, but SOOOOULLL! My son & daughter, 27 & 26 loves this music.
This song reminds me of going to Milwaukee, Wisc. in the summer time from Sallis, Mississippi. Visiting with Uncles, Aunts and Cousins, Oh their laughter, the love, "Summer Fest" by the Lake, back yard Bar B Ques and Speed Queen Restaurant (they had the best tasteing "Q") my GOD the memories! Most of them in Heaven now, but when I hear this and many other songs from the 70's I see their faces, thank you for posting this one "GOD BLESS"!

Lmao I remember being a 13 year old boy from NY visiting my Grandparents in NC
My Aunt would wait for them to leave to play this song, one day they came home unexpected and walked in and said turn that mess off, the only one who's got power is the lord. Nonetheless we still loved to sneak & listen to this.
I love it too!! There used to be a juke joint back in the day that played the mess out of this "record"..LOL. my family lived behind it and I heard it all of the time.
