Every death is a awake in a world behind of another world , we see this with the fear in our eyes , becuse our heart knows the truth , the death kiss us like a child in spring.
but you could seek out and hunt down rare stamps. surely music should be listened to i personally enjoy being able to listen to stuff ive never been able to find before at the touch of a couple of buttons. get it all out there where it can be heard. i dont even really know what an ipod is. but i expect they're all full of commercial crap. good music is only rare because some prick in a suit wants to make even more money.
@TheReegar Apple might be commercialized, but get on the times gramps. My Ipod was filled to the brim with Tom Waits, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf, and so much more. Not to mention a ton of newer music. Like you said "being able to listen to stuff at the touch of a button". I hit play and I can go from the 70's to yesterday.
I can't decide whether it's good or bad that such rare, exquisite music get's onto YouTube....I waited for years to get this album and hear it, putting it on here both undervalues the rareness of it, but lets more people enjoy music they wouldn't otherwise hear...hmmmm.
@leemoz1 I was unfamiliar with most of Tom Waits work until I stumbled onto it through youtube. But I still went out and bought the albums (and hopefully I'm not the only one), so I'm not all that guilty, haha ;)
@TheReegar I don't see anything wrong with music being rare, I think it's fun having to seek it out and hunt it down...but then again I don't belong to the iPod generation, and I hope I never will.
@PeregrineTrousers Thats Tom Waits posing for a picture with his hat and the normal picture is not shaky (duh). I get the feeling you were trolling though, so whatever.
I was playing some Tom Waits once at work, and he should walk by but Luke Pritchard and co. They seemed to enjoy at least even if they did mistake him for Dr John.
Glad to see Kathleen mentioned in this song, she is a huge influence on him!
Let's just close our eyes, put our hands in the pockets of our pants and get lost in the fog of our existence, along with him humming, growling, screaming, grunting, breathing.
A magician, an artist in a long list of (mostly past) people that tried to preserve one of the fading human characteristics, imagination. There is a Tom Waits song for almost any human disposition or feeling. Over the years he remained true to his heart and you have a sense that he never cared about writing for the audiences. But like always, when you don't try to please others, you speak your own truth that may strike a cord with the humanity of the people.
I think you really don't need the lyrics in order to feel this music ... even if you are not an english speaker. But I'm sure you can find Tom's lyrics on the net :)
Breathtaking. A man with so much personality and integrity. There is a passionate uglyness in his work..but also a romantic strike that is so absolutely rare...There's no wonder he's been a huge inspiration for other artists like Nick Cave for instance. Mr Waits is a blueprint. One of the last true heroes. Thank you for uploading!
hey even daft people can have good taste in music!
i doubt anyone could or would grant camiiiie's request but let's not be too mean at anyone who wants to get into a brilliant and underrated artist like waits.
This is the marvelous beginning of an ultimately weak trend in Waits's production. The disappointing culmination of this trend was the "Alice" studio record. This is a really stunning song nonetheless. Given the apparent scarcity of the "Night on Earth" soundtrack, I feel very priveleged to have owned and enjoyed it for ten years or so.
PS: Waits captures a strange Americana. Either you get it, or you don't.
I don't have the theoretical apparatus necessary to accurately describe what it is that I find disappointing in several of those songs: notwithstanding, I find the melodies of certain of the songs (Flower's Grave, Barcarolle, Lost in the Harbor) to be a bit "mushy".
Of course it's still a Tom Waits album, and very much worth while. I found Blood Money to be a far better record.
Tom Waits is like a onion in my eye, sure its of 1 whole, yet there are many many subtle layers, enjoyable nearly blessed in the raw strength of it, but equally good sweetened with a bit of slow heat cookin.
WHAT A STRANGE SURREAL PICTURE OF A MAN BOWLING on a tree trunk or maybe symbolically trying to hold onto his gold & yet if he tries to stop the gold from falling he risks falling off the tree of life.
maybe pushing the boundaries of what we know of an ordinary picture but if compared to Dali's surrealist art that would be quite amateurish & common in comparison so it all relative but yes it looks damn weird hes still balancing on a TReelimb either his hast blowing away & has to catch it or hes bowing to the mountains which seems pointless.
Can't be helped, I'm afraid. It's a very quiet-sounding CD, it needs to be remastered, along with most of Tom's other work from the first three decades of his career.
I think this music is very sad...

Do you remember....
1. When you could get on youtube without a huge ad at the top of your homepage?
2. When EVERY music video was from a user, not Vevo?
3. When you could use it as a music player without having an ad in the beginning of a music vid?
4. When copyright infringement wasn't a big deal?
5. When it was YOUtube?
Tell Youtube how PISSED we, the YOU in YOUtube, are with their greedy corporate asses!!
By the way, please thumbs this up!

I find that it's a nicely balanced recording. The music is quiet and sparse, and the recording captures that accurately.
mafrick40205 2 years ago
@Bryndles79 isnt it epic that you can even say something like "along with the first 3 decades of his work"
i mean its not like any artists today are gonna make 3 decades worth of music, i guess its just another reason why tom waits is amazing =)
