  • thanks for uploading for the rest of us xx

  • zajebiste bylo i jest ^^

  • @roltf124 i będzie.

  • Reminds me of when I used to live on the Other Side of the World. It's a good memory.

  • The message

  • Los Lunes Al Sol

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • Great! I have another Waits-song on my wanted list, its the opening song of the movie : wristcutters. It's called dead and lovely, good song.

Maybe it's here on youtube, I'll look for it.

  • Love it :)

  • It's only the most beautiful song ever.. Thank you Tom :))

  • The clarinet part around 3:30 makes me want to rip my radials out.

  • hes a master of songs!

  • but you could seek out and hunt down rare stamps. surely music should be listened to i personally enjoy being able to listen to stuff ive never been able to find before at the touch of a couple of buttons. get it all out there where it can be heard. i dont even really know what an ipod is. but i expect they're all full of commercial crap. good music is only rare because some prick in a suit wants to make even more money.

  • @TheReegar Apple might be commercialized, but get on the times gramps. My Ipod was filled to the brim with Tom Waits, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf, and so much more. Not to mention a ton of newer music. Like you said "being able to listen to stuff at the touch of a button". I hit play and I can go from the 70's to yesterday.

  • I can't decide whether it's good or bad that such rare, exquisite music get's onto YouTube....I waited for years to get this album and hear it, putting it on here both undervalues the rareness of it, but lets more people enjoy music they wouldn't otherwise hear...hmmmm.

  • @leemoz1 I was unfamiliar with most of Tom Waits work until I stumbled onto it through youtube. But I still went out and bought the albums (and hopefully I'm not the only one), so I'm not all that guilty, haha ;)

  • @leemoz1 good music shouldnt be rare. music is for listening to. if you want to collect something try stamps mate

  • @TheReegar I don't see anything wrong with music being rare, I think it's fun having to seek it out and hunt it down...but then again I don't belong to the iPod generation, and I hope I never will.

  • @TheReegar music is as rare as the listners make it

  • It's exactly the sound he wanted!

  • BEAUTIFUL! I love this song.

  • Is that a bloke standing in a tree with a football? Photographer's got the shakes too.

  • @PeregrineTrousers Thats Tom Waits posing for a picture with his hat and the normal picture is not shaky (duh). I get the feeling you were trolling though, so whatever.

  • @Bryndles79

I was playing some Tom Waits once at work, and he should walk by but Luke Pritchard and co. They seemed to enjoy at least even if they did mistake him for Dr John.

  • You lucky one!

Love the movie and the music.

    Thank you for the upload.

  • This song is amazing.

  • THE PLACE THAT TOM WAS LOOKING WHEN HE WROTE THAT SONG IS MY HOME.

STAMATIS FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.

  • thank you thank you for this :)

  • Thanks for uploading

  • Glad to see Kathleen mentioned in this song, she is a huge influence on him!

Let's just close our eyes, put our hands in the pockets of our pants and get lost in the fog of our existence, along with him humming, growling, screaming, grunting, breathing.

  • A magician, an artist in a long list of (mostly past) people that tried to preserve one of the fading human characteristics, imagination. There is a Tom Waits song for almost any human disposition or feeling. Over the years he remained true to his heart and you have a sense that he never cared about writing for the audiences. But like always, when you don't try to please others, you speak your own truth that may strike a cord with the humanity of the people.

  • magnificent, totally captures you and all you can do is sit and be transfixed

  • i just listened to the kooks and they're a bunch of fags

  • how can you compare tom waits with the kooks, you f...... retard

  • @Bryndles79 wHO THE FUCK ARE THE KOOKS AND OPM?

  • I think you really don't need the lyrics in order to feel this music ... even if you are not an english speaker. But I'm sure you can find Tom's lyrics on the net :)

  • I'd wish to be an english speaker to understand all he says

  • ähm, google??? :D

    good luck ;)

  • Lo disfrute. Es hermoso, como "Little man", te lo recomiendo.

    Eliana

  • He once said...songs are like birds...they dont like to be caged.

  • @markobegus

thats beautiful. Thanks for sharing. So true, so true

  • @markobegus So too are relationships.

  • @markobegus <3

  • @markobegus 'Songs are just interesting things to do with the air' another of his great quotes.

  • MUCH appreciated...!

  • I want this album art framed and on my wall. ........ so cool.

  • Breathtaking. A man with so much personality and integrity. There is a passionate uglyness in his work..but also a romantic strike that is so absolutely rare...There's no wonder he's been a huge inspiration for other artists like Nick Cave for instance. Mr Waits is a blueprint. One of the last true heroes. Thank you for uploading!

  • I love TOM WAITS... he is a giant

  • Who makes this beautyfull stuff nowadays? There's only one Waits!

    Thanks Tom!

  • God, i love Tom Waits.

  • Beautiful!!! Happy Birthday, dear Tom!!!!

  • This is fantastic !

  • yep it sure is.

  • Another great Tom Waits song.

  • i do not hope so!!!!!

  • @Camiiiiiiiiie

That's like five-hundred songs, you daft twit.

  • hey even daft people can have good taste in music!

i doubt anyone could or would grant camiiiie's request but let's not be too mean at anyone who wants to get into a brilliant and underrated artist like waits.

  • That makes me happy, that's all the music I get to look for and listen to ♥___♥

  • WoW! Chills up and down my arm listening to him. Thanx U for posting this; i would have never been exposed to this any other way. =D

  • Alas that will truly be the day.

  • >> Maybe he meant it in a stunned sense?

    "SHIT, THIS IS AMAZING!"

That's what I thought when I first heard Tom Waits "SHIT!!"

  • Wow! This is so beautiful, Waits truly is a master of words... thank you for letting us hear it.

  • This is the marvelous beginning of an ultimately weak trend in Waits's production. The disappointing culmination of this trend was the "Alice" studio record. This is a really stunning song nonetheless. Given the apparent scarcity of the "Night on Earth" soundtrack, I feel very priveleged to have owned and enjoyed it for ten years or so.

PS: Waits captures a strange Americana. Either you get it, or you don't.

  • What's wrong with "Alice"? I quite enjoy that album.

  • I don't have the theoretical apparatus necessary to accurately describe what it is that I find disappointing in several of those songs: notwithstanding, I find the melodies of certain of the songs (Flower's Grave, Barcarolle, Lost in the Harbor) to be a bit "mushy".

Of course it's still a Tom Waits album, and very much worth while. I found Blood Money to be a far better record.

  • fair enough to each their own.

  • @mafrick40205 whaaat??? Alice is absolutely mindblowing

  • What's with all the thumbs' downs??? He's beautiful. If you don't "get it," why don't you move along?

  • Wow. Feelings and sensations flowing purely through a song.

  • gratz guy ^^

  • Oh man,this is fantastic!

  • Tom Waits is like a onion in my eye, sure its of 1 whole, yet there are many many subtle layers, enjoyable nearly blessed in the raw strength of it, but equally good sweetened with a bit of slow heat cookin.

    Wonderful

  • with a drop of bourbon on top yeah?

  • great song. his voice goes so well with it. Tom Waits is truly something else, eh.

  • Delectable! Outstanding--thanks for uploading such a rare gem---love the film and all of Jim Jarmusch's work!

  • Marvellous and magic song.

  • Amazing!Thanks for sharing it!

  • WHAT A STRANGE SURREAL PICTURE OF A MAN BOWLING on a tree trunk or maybe symbolically trying to hold onto his gold & yet if he tries to stop the gold from falling he risks falling off the tree of life.

  • That's just Tom Waits with a hat! He's a bit avant garde dont you know

  • Look at me in love with the sound of my own voice. Everyone on youtube wants to hear my inane musings. Very profound.

  • i wish I could add more thumbs up to you're exactitiude for this blowhard

  • Shit, I didn't know that Tom Waits fans were so fucking hardcore.

I better watch my tongue or I might get censored. Thumbs down man, thumbs down, free interpretation is un-called for.

  • @ryanmcdougall are you talking about tom waits?

  • i'm pretty sure he is just standing on a tree holding his hat. its not like he is trying to go up against Dali

  • yeah...he has several strange pics he's posed for

  • I've always thought Orphans could do with a few more songs

  • orphans 2

  • Tom ist O.K:)

  • music 2 die with

  • I forgot how much I love Tom Waits, he's so good

  • You should not forget your LOVES!

  • But i have so much..

  • Beautiful

I'm gonna start buying Tom's LPs

  • I love this song. Shame it's so hard to find.

  • perfection

  • ~~# £4 Tunes In To The Main Aorta ~~Enjoy Your Moments and times ~~LOve Al~~:)

  • it's a shame about the poor sound quality

  • Can't be helped, I'm afraid. It's a very quiet-sounding CD, it needs to be remastered, along with most of Tom's other work from the first three decades of his career.

  • I find that it's a nicely balanced recording. The music is quiet and sparse, and the recording captures that accurately.

  • @Bryndles79 isnt it epic that you can even say something like "along with the first 3 decades of his work"

i mean its not like any artists today are gonna make 3 decades worth of music, i guess its just another reason why tom waits is amazing =)

  • @Bryndles79

you do realise a remastered version will sound a lot worse? look up the loudness war.... just turn your stereo up m'man

  • @Bryndles79 meh...loud is overrated...I kinda like it...adds to the old timey ethereal feel....

  • @synesthesia67 "ethereal", well said.

  • beautiful

  • I saw him playing this last night!! He was amazing.

  • You are SO lucky!

  • wow what an beautiful arrangment on the instruments.. he is magic

  • God

  • This reminds me very strongly of It's Over, off of Orphans.

  • Awesome. I found the record some years back from a local record store that stocks a pretty good selection of Waits material.

  • Not on vinyl, eh?

  • Man, rrrrespect for this!
