  • Ban Rap music. How many people with money want to move next door to some jerk playing rap music at maximum volumn all night unless they're a drug dealer

which Cleveland has probably already maxed out the job opportunities in? Spanish music is cool with most people because it's mainly about having sex on the beach but Rap music is mainly about hating rich white people which don't draw taxpayers

  • Boston and San Francisco are two of the most liberal cities in the Country. If the claims of this video are true, then why are Boston and San Francisco so successful?

  • What a great spin doctor job. Not only Cleveland and Ohio are dying, but the entire 'Rust Belt" is too. A lot of the young educated people in the that Midwestern region will somehow find their way down in the Dallas-Fort-Worth area, Austin, and Houston. Just take a hard look at high school football as a mirror. The number of talents from Ohio and Michigan are declining mainly because the populations are shrinking due to migration. Take a trip down to any major Texas City and you'll see.

  • @petion2010 Why do you think everyone is migrating? Could it be that Texas has no state income tax and has a very business friendly environment, which brings jobs. I left Cleveland because there are no jobs. I used to work for a very successful construction company in Florida that left Northeast Ohio for Florida because of low taxes, its a right to work state, and little red tape.

  • @marinegrunt0341 Low taxes is just one of the reasons. The Midwest however needs to reinvent itself. People gotta understand that the region can no longer rely on manufacturing. Pittsburgh had to adapt and not rely on the steel industry. Houston is probably the best reinvention story. It went from over-reliance on energy, to one of the most diverse economy of the country. No other city, other than NYC, has more fortune 500 companies. This won't take the government to do because government

  • @marinegrunt0341 is highly inefficient. It will take visionary businessmen and businesswomen, a strong commitment to competition and free trade, and ability to take advantage of the change of the free market.

  • everything they said about clevland can be said of any city; people will move back when the jobs retrun

  • incredible!

  • For every Cleveland and Detroit, there are the political equivalents, but economically thriving cities of Seattle, Portland OR, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City. Also, Houston has no real suburbs of any size. It has annexed virtually all of Harris County and it's city limits are currently twice the size in area than Connecticut. If Cleveland had the ability to annex it's suburbs and neighboring land the way Houston has, I don't think we'd be watching this video right now.

  • @MrTexcolo I'm from Portland; it's not thriving.

  • @MrTexcolo I don't get it. Cleveland is dying a slow death and all signs show that this downward trajectory is going to continue for a long time, and here is a video that is introducing new ideas that have logical merit, and all you can do is try to discredit these ideas with a straw-man argument. How about trying some different ideas like what is presented here instead of doing the same dumb things over and over again to no avail.

  • I came of age in the 70's and lived near Cleveland.. the city was "happening" back then... I came back seven years ago and was stunned by how the city has shrunk. It is a virtual ghost town.. _very sad... Go Drew! Help bring it back to a time that I remember.. I time when Cleveland was cool!

  • Ive lived in Cleveland now 11yrs great series. Man does this city have its problems. However the potential this city has is limitless. What I dont get is why they shut down the flats. That was a draw big time. Bet the city misses the revenue that was generated by the flats. I do like it here. Tremont where I live is doing well despite t he economy is really changing into the artist hub of cleveland. Oh and the Parkview has a great brunch on sundays, kick ass place

  • It's almost 4:30am and I'm just NOW finishing up this series after getting hooked way too late and needing to see where this all would go. FANTASTIC ideas. I am a lifelong Clevelander, however I live in the suburbs to the east because there isn't any good places to live downtown or just outside of it. I own several properties, including a commercial apartment building, and these videos hit the nail on the head... there's WAY too much Red Tape to do anything. Zoning needs to go away for good

  • ok guys, i watched the whole series. now i wanna move to houston. good luck with cleveland! appreciate lebron for the rest of this year because he's comin to chicago after this season.

  • does cleveland have a chinatown?? If so i would like to move there

  • that house in toronto would be 850 000 (people are stupid to pay that here)

  • Unfortunately one of the cost's of success is housing very few can afford - just look at Google's home town of Mountain View CA.

  • I disagree. If the housing market is crappy and low, it's primarily because no one wants to live there. If it's high, it's because LOTS of people want to live there. Prices rise and fall due to high or low demand. If Cleveland had a high cost housing market, I guarantee it's because Cleveland was doing a hell of a lot of things right instead of what they're doing now. Book it.

  • you are correct... real estate is about supply and demand. People forget California was once what Texas is now... but as people moved their - real estate became expensive... and when that happens people want more regulations to protect their investments. I don't know why people are so surprised at these cycles.

  • @hnsbro I'd bet yo ua dollar that the reason why housing is expensive in Mountain View has more to do with legislation than with the wealth of the inhabitants. That is to say, it's not their wealth, but their tendency to use that wealth to legislate out the possibility for late-comers to join their exclusive community by way of land use regulations that makes the housing costs so high.

  • Right on! I see you've been reading your Tom Sowell!

  • Except because California is bankrupt like one out of every ten houses is being foreclosed. My aunt got her house for nearly fifty percent off.

  • I was in Cleveland once. ONCE. The reisential areas were a dump, similar to broken cities in my home state, Michigan. Yep. Government works!

  • what a sexy real estate agent

  • I know what you mean. I'd meet her asking price any day.

  • somewhere there is a compromise. the government does a crappy job on the money end of things.

yes we have the best military, great highway system, public schools are free for all, etc. But since money is no object, and many have jobs that they can not lose, there is no incentive to perform better. the other extreme is corporate america paying the ceo millions, and offering the working class crumbs. In the middle will be best for all.

  • @ledzep1234567 Public schools are not free for all. They cost money. And our highway system is not great. It could be much better, especially in urban areas. The other extreme isn't necessarily so bad since the shareholders are getting actual value for what they're paying for.

  • @ledzep1234567 - the only correct thing you said it "best military"... and that's actually why everything else is crumbling. Other rich nations encouraged the US to be the world's policeman to ease their own military spending. They took that money and spent it on their - infrastructure - schools - healthcare... which when you check it out the US does not rank in the top 10 in any of those.

  • Texas RoCKs!

  • "It's a great place to raise a family"

    What a liar.

  • What a dishonest video. How can they talk about Cleveland's problems without mentioning the city's astronomical crime rate? Entrepreneurs aren't going to be attracted to a city with a murder rate like Cleveland's. Of course, if they broached that topic, people might wonder why it's so dangerous (I know, I know - high taxes make people murder, rape and steal...). Also, I love how they show some old people dancing in a bar and St Patrick's Day parade goers to make people think it's a white city.

  • Well, shit if that's the case New Yoprk City and Los Angeles should fit that complaint. We have only a fraction of the crime they do.

  • @SFCMAC57 - no Cleveland has a higher crime rate than NYC. NYC became resurgent after it tackled the crime that was overrunning the city.

  • @scottvska

know what you mean..i just watched a gang of black thugs jump and beat two old white men..... get a rope and hangem high!!!!!!!

you think Cleveland is bad go to Detroit ,Memphis and a host of others. Blacks or niggers are destroying America. A fact!

  • @scottvska

just watched a gang of teenage black punks attack and beat two old white men in cleveland. Black or niggers are destroying america. I say get a rope and hang em high. Look at Memphis, Detroit, etc. Horrible.

  • We are a cargo cult.

  • I like Cats On Holiday, can somebody tell me the name of the song? I can't find it with a lyrics search.

  • Nevermind, found it.

  • and of course, who could forget Drew's archnemesis Mimi Bobeck? God she was hideous.

  • the scottish asshole boss (craig ferguson), the bitchy higher-up who sleeps with younger men, and much more.

  • Drew Carey is so much cooler now that he's revealed he's a libertarian and supporter of Reason. Before, he was just the main character of a relatively funny cleveland-based sitcom with a cast of other crazy characters, including a dumbass and his "big brother" friend.

  • He revealed that a long time ago...not that you paid attention.

  • @SFCMAC57 Actually, I subscribed like 2 or so years ago when ReasonTV was just getting started. I was just making a comment. You know, unnecessary sarcasm is very unbecoming.

  • Someone please gather all the Cleveland City officials and FORCE THEM to watch this series!

  • While the video diplomatically blames politicians for Cleveland's problems, eventually the people who continually voted those politicians into office will need to take responsibility for their own short sightedness and self-indulgence.

  • Agreed. The politicians are elected not forced onto the people. They are reaping what they are sowing. Some of the people in the video need to run for office and give the people a choice. If they choose to stay with the devil they know then they will have chosen their fate.

  • Cleveland? Hasn't it be renamed to Stalingrad?

  • Youtube reminds me of office 2007, Ruining a good thing by making it more complicated.

  • what do you mean you're not trying to be overtly racist? are you trying to be subversively racist? you don't need to preface your racist comments with "i'm not racist." just like people shouldn't preface their offensive remarks with "no offense, but.." just say whatever racist thing comes to mind.

  • Maybe i should delete my comment

  • The last time I went to Cleveland I got lost and stopped to ask a cop for directions. He was a major asshole. I will not be back soon.

  • yes

  • Who is the one guy who thumbs downed this video?

  • I've been using the "c" word a lot. It's not going to last, people.

  • "A monument to the broken promises of Cleveland politicians."

    Good description there.

  • @treez78 same here

  • The only problem now is getting all these ideas implemented. Cleveland is a pretty liberal town. If anyone watched the Stossel special, you got to meet some of the city council people and politicians. They're so stuck in their ways. They have no intention of stopping their statist ways. They're going to continue to drive all of the wealth out of Cleveland until there is nothing left.

  • I was born and raised in Cleveland and I have really enjoyed this video series, along with the Stossel special on Cleveland last night. I love Cleveland and I really want to go back, but for what? I still wont earn my doctorate for a couple years so maybe my mind will change, but there's nothing in Cleveland worth staying for.

  • Awesome series Reason! Thanks Drew, it's nice to see someone with enough pride for Cleve to call out why it's so effed up.

I recently moved back to Cleveland (wishing it was a good decision) so I would love for our city to once thrive again. 3 reasons I moved away.. weather, the worst traffic system and economy. My fam and friends were only reason I came back. Please ppl, let's push for these city officials or w/e to give us some freedom! This is the U.S. isn't it?

  • Very good series but glossed over the giant elephant in the room. Cleveland, and the State of Ohio are run by corrupt entrenched Democrats that love big labor unions and punitive taxes. The very entities that ruined these areas are still very much in control.

  • @treez78. Yes It has been happening to me also.

  • I'd love to see Drew come to Cleveland to host rallies supporting these ideas to help bring back the city.

Not only is there great culture in Cleveland, but there's lots to do in NE Ohio. Take an 90 minute car ride and you're in Amish country or at Cedar Point. Grab your bike and ride 30 miles through the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You could probably fill every weekend with all the fairs and festivals in NE Ohio.

    Worst part of Cleveland?

3 words -- Lake. Effect. Snow. LOL

  • You make an excellent point cities like Cleveland / Detroit need to have a vibrant city to bring in the arts and entertainment.

Politicians need to let growth and expansion happen without the red tape of their holding them back with.

  • Great job Reason - you really knocked it out of the park with this whole series!

  • a dental hygienist at the dentist I go to moved from Ohio, she graduated from OSU, and she loves it in Houston

  • awesome series. Thank you

  • Great series! If only we would stop trying to save us from ourselves.

  • Good series. I think it would have made your case stronger if you had used more than Huston as your City of comparison.

  • @Keylimedelight - yeah - it's like comparing apples and oranges. they should have more compared it to a city like Pittsburgh.

  • Maybe Drew should run for Mayor.

  • As much as I love everything else, I have a problem with the title, Reason Save Cleveland with Drew Care. Reason Saves Cleveland? What? How is Cleveland saved?

  • Did I just see Nick smile??

  • In the next video he'll be wearing a coat and tie and drop his California accent.

  • Nicely done. Maybe you could edit it together into a longer video.

  • cleveland LOL

    get real!

  • Such a great series! I get to watch the rust belt ask for more of what's killing it every day. You did excellent!

  • Brilliant series. I wonder though if the heavy hand of the federal government will bring even the freest places like Houston down. You can do so much on the local and state level, but until we start asserting 9th and 10th amendment sovereignty against the feds and free ourselves from the funny money (federal reserve), it doesn't matter where you run.

  • @valhala56 We're already past peak oil. And we're well on our way to get functional nuclear fusion reactor power. I doubt civilization is going down the drain just because we're going to run out of fossils fuel.

  • Awesome, I can't wait, although they have promising a Fusion reactor for 25 years! They got one to work? Where?

  • @valhala56 Aside from ITER, an ongoing project I'm sure you're already aware of, there is also progress with using lasers to confine and heat a hydrogen capsule inside a larger gold capsule.

Can't link to it, but google "fusion laser test result" and "ITER" and you'll see what I'm taking about.

I think we'll have working fusion power within the next 10 to 20 years.

  • @valhala56 You couldn't be more wrong. "Peak oil" will just mean that poor people cant afford oil. Americans will still be able to afford it. Unless BHO and the federal government ruins the US economy for good.

  • Get back to me whenever your peak oil dream comes true

  • plenty of people lived in texas before air conditioning man...i doubt hot temperatures will stop them
