i just want to comment on how much of an absolute genius hans zimmer is with this soundtrack. The depth of this film is incredible and portrays the raw human emotion involved in war and beyond. the epicness of the soundtrack is only matched by the stunning cinematography... one of the best films ever made.
Such accurate depiction of what a war really means, almost all emotions accurately portrayed.Kudos to the ensemble cast especially Jim Caviezel n sean penn for putting up strong performances. Definitely Oscar material.
The older i get the better this movie becomes, there is a lot of pain in this movie, ive never been in a war but this movie affects me every time I watch it. The only other movie that taps into my emotions in such a profound way is Tree of Life also by Terrence Malick.
It was this part that got Jim Caviezel the lead in the movie "The Passion of the Christ".
So watching him in this movie, much younger, was like seeing Jesus in his hidden years, before he started preaching. That made the movie even more intense for me.
an amazing film. i saw it back when it came out and always thought it was better than SPR. i had a friend who was a wanna be marine (which he turned out to be) that just didnt get it. TTRL is one of my favorite war films. powerful movie powerful music. film making at its very best.
@coscorella Go to africa. In Rwanda, if u go to christian church, u will be amazed by the quality of the singers (and there are not professional singers). I'm pretty sure this song was inspired by african original songs. Come back to the roots ;-)
Can't let you say that. Hans saved his soul by creating the music for this masterpiece. Maybe he's now just a Hollywood's prostitute but I choose to remember him for TTRL.
THIS is the best Movie from this genre i´ve ever seen in my live. And when i hear this song combined with this citation i get goose pimples. awsome :)
So I saw this movie in english and I'm papua new guinean and I heard them singing and I'm like OMFG I KNOW WHAT THEIR SAYING and i got really excited and everyone was like wtf.. no one cares... sad moment. but it made me really happy. :)
Jesus you hold my hands You take my heart from me Yeah I will I will cry out for Him (Jesus) Jesus I cry for you Jesus what you did for him, I believe I know it shall come Come now with grace I will see, I trust in thee Jesus you will come now I know Come Jesus, I believe, Yeah I trust
The Thin Red Line is a movie that is hard to digest when you first watch it, and appreciation only grows for the film as time passes. It's really great, actually.
@sigs002 They do make movies like this; you just have to wait for them. Watch out for "The Tree of Life,” Malick’s latest movie on limited release around the world and, with some luck, showing at a cinema near you sometime soon!
Such wonderful harmony, no doubt traditional, echoing ancient times before Christianity was introduced to the Solomon Islands. Still I have no doubt that Christianity built itself well into the Solomon society and culture, no worse than any other foreign religion would. What I find sad though is that the song is sung in a mixture of distorted English and probably some local substratum when it could have been sung in Baeggu or Teanu or Savosavo or any other of a number of Solomonese languages.
@Marcqx They are singing in a pigeon English, what does that matter? They are also singing 'Jesus your holy hand belong to me' so it is not echoing 'ancient' time before Christianity!? These people are singing a song they sung long before the cameras for the film arrived, in the language of their tribe (English btw being no more 'foreign' than other solomonese languages) in worship of their chosen God. Do not patronize them and leave them be!
@Bladerunner55217 "Makes me want to love even the nastiest people and not mind it " - you nailed it. That's how I first heard it a year back. But time goes on and I'm losing it, losing my way there, getting further away from this precious feeling. All that I do is wrong, but I can't get back...
Yeah i support that info heads up of yours, youtube aint the place really for "forum fights" on issues like "mines bigger then yours". Cant stand having fights like that myself. For this movie, sure ive had friend telling me they thought it was boring etc. Well, then you obviously dont like movies that force you to think abit more then wam-bam action. Thin Red Line is a masterpiece, and thank you for posting this theme, havent heared it "single-wise" until now :)
This song wants to make me sail away to an uninhabbited pacific island with only natives with me. We would be singing and dancing and living simple lives. Not caring for anything but ourselves and out beutiful island. This is where happiness lies. This is where the people and nature can be one.
@Fragment87 As far as I know it's the pidgin language of the Solomon Islands, called Pijin. It's basically a mix of English and the local dialects that acts as the lingua franca for the region.
shockingly moving ! Believe it or not, Thin Red Line has changed my life for the better! It made me realize that life is short and precious and we have to enjoy it as much as we can, in peace. And i cried like a baby when Witt died at the end!!
just goes to show you if you look hard enough on you tube you can find moses and the burning bush, I want to wake up to this everymorning just yell it in the shower
@Cha4k Exactly, you need to get older to understand it more and more, same for me being only 27 now. Malick's movies get richer and richer the more you think about life and understand!
Finally someone who has had the same revelation as me. I thought Thin Red Line was an awful movie when I first saw it. I watched it once: It was a boring war movie. I saw it a second time: It was a deep character study. I saw it a third time: It became a deep, beautiful, moving, philosophical meditation on what it is to be a human on planet earth and our relation to the natural world.
@Cha4k You are so right, I also fell for all the blood and action and heroism, I saw Thin Red Line earlier than SPR. I was young and got bored of all the talks and ideological stuff. Now I alsso have understood the real picture of the movie.
I can`t bealive you guys broth politics in to this excelent movie.I hade to watch it 2 times to realise is a psychological movie about the 2 main feeling of the human being in contrast:love(relation) and hate(war). Is not about war and politics.

TRL is a masterpiece. I've watched it more times than I can remember. Each time it hits me harder than before. I heard both sadness and happiness in the music. I felt only pain from the movie.
I don't understand the last scene of the film when the some plant is in the water.I know that simbolize something but i don't know what. But the fact is, the "Thin Red Line" is one of the bet war movies.........:D
MandaNS93, I think it's: loneliness ( 1 plant in all the water) , futility, almost "drowning"=death, similar to Witt's Grave, the helmet up on the gun
@MandaNS93 It’s up to you to decide what it means for you. For me it means Rebirth. The generosity of nature. Even where the land contends with the sea.
after watching the thin red line, only a few other movies seem worth watching. everything else seems really dull and shallow. specially the other war movies out there.

@DaveTheSodaGuy0 I feel the same way. Malick isn't just a filmmaker, he's a poet, and "The Thin Red Line" is one of the most profound and sadly beautiful movies I've ever seen. @taltom10 in order to understand it youd have to have been in battle to really grasp it. it should have swept the Acaemy Awards. the reason it didnt? the message was unable to be grasped by people who havent seen war.
I remember the first time I heard this song in the movie... it was exactrly 11 months ago. It played in my head for several days. It did seem like a different world. "I seen another world'. I'm happy to learn this song had a similar effect on many others.
You would hope that people understand "No copyright infringements intended" but greed seems to get the better of us. Glad to see 'er up, such an amazing song.
Thank you for loading this. I just watched the film - I can't believe I waited this long to watch such a masterpiece. I also can't believe the film did not win the Oscar for Best Score, because based even on this track alone, no music has moved me this much.

TRANSLATION: "Jesus Hold My Hand" Jesus hold my hand Hear my cry when I call you There is none like you, I praise you Jesus I come unto you now ...uuuuu.. Take me as I am ...uuuuu... Jesus I come unto you uuuuu Take me as I am uuuuu... I humbly come unto you And say thankyou for everything given to meeee And I will be ready for your return Jesus I come unto you now uuuuu.. Take me as I am uuuuu... Jesus I come unto you uuuuu Take me as I am uuuuu... By a Melanesian, Thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing the words in English. When I first heard these Melanesian songs when I watched the Thin Red Line, I immediately fell in love with the eery soulfull melodies and was moved every time I head them. It's only thanks to you and YouTube that I now understand why this song is one of my favourites, now that I have the translation...thank you thank you thank you x
I don't believe in Jesus Christ as supernatural messiah and I don't believe in a God or gods in the traditional sense.
But I'll be damned if this song doesn't touch my soul.

An underrated movie!
Terrence Mallick and his crew did such a great job of this one and the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is just perfect.
Unfortunately most people do not see the deeper meaning this movie has and misunderstand it as just another war flick.

This song makes me cry every time... the movie was so sad... and you want him to survive, but he doesn't. Then this song plays and it makes you cry.

Thank you for loading this. I just watched the film - I can't believe I waited this long to watch such a masterpiece. I also can't believe the film did not win the Oscar for Best Score, because based even on this track alone, no music has moved me this much.

How composed this song? The people from the island? Holy shit, they have more musical knowledge than most composers out there.
