I always wondered - is Casca black or a gypsy? I just had an argument with my friends about this last night, and if this is supposed to take times in medieval Europe, I am inclined to think black people were very uncommon then, plus when it shows Casca as a child rescued by Griffith, her clothes and surroundings look very gypsy like. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

@z55177 Have you read the manga? Casca isn't black. The explanation for her skin colour is most likely that she is Kushan, since most of the Kushan characters have similar skin colour and features as her. Also I think it was mentioned at some point that she lived near the border before the whole incident where she met grifith, and Kushan is practicly right next to midland.

Trust me, the manga is totally worth reading. There's never going to be a "Season 2" or continuation for the Berserk anime, so there's no reason to skip reading the manga. The storyline is totally awesome after the eclipse.

Yeah, you should start with 1. There are some differences between Manga & Anime and the Post-Eclipse Story is worth reading, even tough the Manga has lost a bit of its class after the Eclipse.

If your offended by Sex don't read it. There is more of it in the Manga than the Anime and in the Post-Eclipse parts there is even too much rape at some points of the story. But gladly this parts seem to be over.

12 Kingdoms is a good fantasy anime. Starts off with the generic school-girl-goes-into-fantasy-­land plot but then really gets going. Not a whole lot of killing however. But lots of political intrigue and stuff.

The Berserk manga is worth reading, as it has Serpico, who is the best character in the series. Shame he never made it to the anime.

Well... Serpico may be the best character in the series for you... but I prefer Guts/Gatsu... I think he's very complex and reallistic character psichologically, and I feel quite identified with him.

@caroofy As far as character design, Bastard!! fits, though the storytelling is A LOT less dark. And in terms of characterization and seiyuu casting, Shadowskill works, though again, not as dark. The story in Berserk is fucking grim and awesome and very very hard to match. Also Caska rocks.
