Cage's perfomances in this movie is epic it's like all our senses are only seeing what is on the surface, but his characters sleep depravity is giving him an extra sense of connection with the victims, add that to the chaotic atmosphere of a paramedic and you've got a masterpiece of a movie. This truly was a very underrated move but it takes a true artist like Scorsese to say fuck the general public I am making my movie.

@schatzdrum -- It's been so long I can't remember. I believe I was wondering which shots were of the same patient, i.e. when Nicolas Cage looks over the balcony rail, is he really seeing the guy impaled below him, or is it just his neurosis? My husband (ex-firefighter & EMT) has seen the movie (and loves it) and explained that the impaled guy was real and was the same man seen against the backdrop of fireworks, but not the next man whom Cage gives a hand up.
