The beautiful woman carrying a box and passing through in the marketplace (the one with the earthen jugs and straw hats) shows a mix of Spanish and Filipino blood. She is called a "mestiza". Whereas Filipinas with brown Malay skin are called "morena".
How well-dressed we Filipinos were before the war. Even in the 50s and 60s I remember pictures of my dad and he's in a suit when at the office all day. Either that or in resplendent Barong Tagalog. Formal church attire was a must and the men wore neckties. How clean the Pasig River was! And most of all, the skies of Manila were smog-free!
After the WWII, MacArthur established land reform in Japan and made it more egalitarian by purchasing land from the rich landowners and reselling at very lower prices to poor farmers; while he didn't mandate it in the Philippines.
The US was pressed to abandon the Philippines after the war when the local government pushed for full Independence from the US, US president Truman was angry with this after the US spent billions of dollars developing the country from 1898-1941 , All in hopes it would be our 50th state,
How arrogant the Americans are to refer to it as a "sleepy" Spanish town! The Spanish spread culture what have the Americans got? Macdonalds, fast food and obese people!
Back then, Manila was the healthiest and cleanest city in Asia beause it was under the American Government. Just look at Subic, they have maintained the cleanliness and the traffic rules and regulations that it's so orderly not like in Manila where drivers don't follow rules that's why traffic is a mess.

This Doc is truly fabulous history of d Phils. Well, some unaware, misinformed and lack of knowledge would learn here the true origin of Filipinos before the corruption became rampant to these days...
I love this video... It's fabulous to learn the early Phils (reality) before the mal-practice of corruption became part of the culture...

If Manuel Quezon is still alive, he would have said otherwise, with regrets.

The stupid thing is that the Americans rebuilt Japan and ignored Manila. McArthur left the Philippines and stayed in Japan.
