Genpo Roshi has mastered detachment in his own life, that's why I trust him completely. He went so far that he even detached from common decency and morality, such as: "do not make money with the Dharma" or "do not abuse teacher status to have sexual relationship with students".
Love this message. Wish Buddhism in general also gave a fair share to aversion as well. In essence we can be attached to fear or aversion and not even know it because it's what's NOT there. Silently making us miserable (potentially). I really love that he puts limits on non-attachment too. Caring is good and also not good.
2:16 - "Think about the caring as an attachment." I don't connect to his idea of "guilt" created by "not caring enough". Guilt is something different, guilt is not about attachment at all (unless it's attachment to a self-image of being guilty). I thought he was going to go on to say something about the suffering created by becoming attached to a particular outcome when you care, e.g. "I care about my children and I am hurt when I offer advice and they don't take it", or similar.
this is a good message. its important to feel free to be a good positive productive and compassionate person without feeling anything is required. by doing things from a place of freedom it not only prevents burnout but is more self affirming by realizing that it is by choice we can do good things.
craving and attachment! Of course! That explais earthquakes and tsunamis. Bah!

Attachment to caring - I am so caring - I am such a nice guy, I am not free. I can relate to this. This is often a problem with spiritual ideals.

pretty sure most people w/compassion can grow spiritually without personally suffering!

@justanothersheeple I doubt it. Suffering is what points out where you are stuck in some form of attachment.
