Hey Carl, big fan of your videos. I was told from somebody that you shouldnt use paste wax as a finish on any project that is going to be used for food or drinking. My question is, is it safe to use this as a finish if you plan on consuming the material inside. Is it harmful?
@BrandonC753 Yes paste wax is NOT a food safe finish if your going to be consuming anything you need to use a food safe finish like "Salad Bowl Finish" it is ideal for anything that comes in contact with food also great for children's toys.
I do like this video and all others you have. Can you tell me what you use when sanding? Is it some kind of wax with abrasives in it or what the compound you dip your sand paper in. Don
Great video - This is a much more economical way of making bottle stoppers. Is there any worry about contamination from the wood to the liquid or does using hardwood combat that? Or is it the sealant you put on?
How do you prevent the chuck marks on the 'bung'? Are you putting something around it? I notice you cleaned the 'nib' with the parting tool. When you re-chucked it, the 'wobble' might have caught the parting tool perhaps?
Looks a really nice little project though. My wife often drinks only part of a bottle and it would make a lovely present for her.
use 2 - ply aka toilet paper on a lathe
