  • So glad to hear you are happy at your job. Funny you say you're in the 'burbs here. I'm a city local and graduated from university in May with a promising major and spent 6 months looking and only have been on 3 interviews and while those interviews were promising, they were all in the burbs and I rely on the CTA (no car).I graduated top of my class in HS, graduated with a bachelors with a 3.8...and nothing. I feel like the American dream died...but I remain hopeful, even in this dismal economy.

  • Excellent video, i think you summed up not only the trying times people experience in a quest for employment but in any aspect of life.

Hang around no matter how dark and grim it may seem because the next moment can alter the course of your life in ways you could have never imagined, in a good way, even if it wasn't the course you envisioned

  • "Anything is Possible, Don't give up hope" <--- I need to remind myself of these words, I'm ready to just leave America and start a life somewhere else, I haven't had a job since 09, I'm reaching the end of my rope. This just sucks

  • @trisharose87 Remaining your own cheering section leader is, so far as I can tell, THE hardest task when facing a long winded job search like what you describe. So I can relate in a big way to what you're saying. And I wish I had something more substantial to say other than: Hang in there!

One of the things I did before landing the job I have was sitting down with a staffing agency rep who was willing to just be blunt and honest with me regarding my resume. It was painful but I'm glad I did it.

  • Video responsement comin' up :)

  • Geez! You've been making videos and I didn't even know it. Nowadays, just about any job is good. Ironically, I feel that Steve Jobs and other Internet people were partly the cause of it (note, only partly!). Don't get me wrong, I don't blame them, I just think that the Internet wiped out so many businesses so quickly that when other economic disasters happened, the economy couldn't adjust. I've always felt that "economic growth" was an ideal doomed to fail, in the long run.

  • Cool shirt, I have one exactly like it but with the peace sign instead of a heart. Having a job these days, let alone one you like, is a blessing. Good advice for job hunters, Curt.

  • Great message. I was on a job hunt for about 2 years until I fell into the job I am at now. I really didn't want this job and hated it at first. I stuck with it and now I've been there for about 3 and a half years and I help run the place. It's weird how things like this happens.

BTW, good seeing you again! I haven't been around much lately.

  • Who needs a job with a shirt like that?! Good to see that you are employable at last.

  • Congratulations on finding something that you like to do... Think I'll just recline the seat in this here taxi and take a nap...

  • I'm happy for you to have found a job that you love. I don't watch very many videos. Maybe 10 or less a month but I have to say that you make videos that I can't pass up. Thanks you for making the videos that you do. Yeah, this comment was mostly off the topic of the video but who the hell cares.

  • Woohooo for a job you love!!! I have always been worried about you finding something you are happy doing, so I am thrilled!

Now I have to go make some toast.

  • Good to see you my friend! Love the shirt and the grab!

Great words of advice. Always keep hoping!

    Cheers!

  • I'm trying to break into an industry right now. It's getting harder and harder to do but I keep plugging away. Some day the dam has got to break! Oh, and nice shirt!

  • It's great to feel gratitude, it attracts more good things when you appreciate what you have. I'm very grateful for the job that I finally have, even though it's not exactly what I wanted-it's worked out for me to be better in my circumstances than what I was first hoping for. Glad you're finding some good in whatever you're doing. You do look a little tired though!

  • I LIKE the heart shirt. I am grateful that I am retired. If I had more energy, perhaps I would search for a job, but it would have to be a pretty damn cool job. I'm still recovering from the stressful job I used to have and I've been retired 10 months now.

Nice video, Curt. I nearly accepted a job offer to assist people in finding a job. But...

  • You're up in Slumburg, eh? Fifteen minutes away. PM me if you need an excuse to go to Asian Bowl or someplace for dinner.

My mom had another stroke a year ago and went into a nursing home. Since then I've been looking for work. At first it was contract stuff only, but after a few months of that I started looking at captive work of any kind. Nobody wants a 55 year old engineer who used to make six figures. Still hunting, though.

  • Hi Curt,

I bet you have friends to visit everywhere you travel. I'm so glad you were able to find a job. I know you were looking for a long time. It's good to see you on here every once in a while and I like your tie dye shirt. It made me smile.

    -- JoAnn :)

  • Very nice video. Good message, but I will be an ass and say that I was very distracted by your shirt, and your boobie grab, and looking at what looks like a toaster in the back, even though I know it's not a toaster.

  • @timido66 But it IS, Blanche! It IS a toaster!!

    For realz. :-)

  • @OhCurt Hmm, I'd like mine lightly toasted with butter. Thanks.

  • "for the thumbnail baby" that was so old school and nostalgic to me :)

I have a job that I like, but I could do better, that doesn't mean I am not grateful for it, soI get what you say, it could be bad but we have one and so many people don't, nice to see your handsome face :)

  • I don't know...Is it "job hunting" or "job begging", at this point?

  • I LOVE that shirt, it says fuck you and pass the joint all at the same time:-)

I have a job but its a shitty job, thanks for the encouragement to keep looking for a permanent home.

  • Glad it's going well. It does feel good to work, doesn't it?

  • Nice to hear from you, and glad you're doing well. :)

  • I'm glad you're happy and doing well Curt.

  • I'm glad you're happy and doing well Curt.

  • Good news. I know you've been looking for a long time. I'm glad you found something that you like and that allows you to wear a hippy shirt.

  • i'm so happy for you, you suffered the unemployment so badly and for so long. that's where i am now and so i am especially happy for you because i now feel your former pain ;) thanks for the message of hope, i soooo can use it today. looove the heartie tie dye shirt. nice to see you, sir.

  • From the remark "Don't ask don't tell" I will assume you are in the Army...and I'm LOVING the new uniforms. I guess the best way to fight the enemy is to blind them.

Im trying not to give up hope......keeping busy helps :)

  • Great message Curt! Thanks for sharing.

  • Good to see you again Curt. I'm glad you have a job and one you even like. I'm happy for you :) And you're right. Anything IS possible.

  • Some times the best opportunities come from the most unlikely places. But, you still have to embrace them & make them into great opportunities. That's obviously what you've done. Well done & keep up the good work, whatever it is ;)

  • Yayyy, glad to hear things have worked out on the job front Curt! Actually a job that requires traveling sounds pretty cool... even more so if they allow at least a fair amount of expenses for you. So, is that the same shirt you wore to the job interview? :)

  • @Blinkazoid LOL

It began with a phone interview, so... maybe. ;-P

  • yes and don't forget to go to Dunkin Doughnuts

  • @Richmunnich Every morning so far. BOOYAAH!!!

  • As someone who's about to graduate college and enter the real world, I gotta tell you man. You know exactly what people need to hear.

  • @lesliefoundhergrail Please, no matter what, do not EVER look back on college with regret.

And congratulations in advance, btw!! :-)

  • Welcome to the new normal America. Lower your expectations, we are swirling around the bowl -- going down.

  • @TheDystopiaInside Seeing what's happened to the cost of living over the course of the last 40 years or so - and especially the last 10 years - is less than inspiring. Tougher to keep the spirits up.

  • Great statement!!"

  • I'm so glad your new career with Vivid is taking off!

  • @ChristopherMast bewbz

  • It's difficult looking for work. I was lucky enough to find a job last winter at a store, which is way better than the greasy fast food places and call centers I've been at in the past, and even on days when I don't like getting up early in the morning especially during the dark cold winters, I feel lucky to have any job at all.

Thanks for sharing your message with all of us, Curt! And, congrats on the job!

  • @HaleyMary Thanks, Mary.

    Congrats on yours well!

  • You called it a LITTLE heart... I have policies, too. It's so great to hear that you landed in a good place... Are you shopping on the Skymall yet?

  • @mickmusing I shop online - isn't THAT the "sky" mall?

  • Im sorta jelous ;) toodles.

  • Man, I just wanna say thank you for making this video. Its very strange but for the last two days, I have been totally depressed about not finding a job yet....and then I see THIS video pop up in my sub box. Your words actually made me feel alot better and has put wind back in my sails, so to speak. I found myself getting VERY discouraged...until now. So, thanks, Curt. See ya on the Bookface!

  • @sneakypreacher Keep fighting the good fight! And try your best not to let the lack of results hit you in the ol' self esteem. Easier said than done, I know - and trust me, I can totally relate.

    Bookface FTW! :-)

  • It's hard out looking for work.I'm not back to full time work myself but my parttime keeps me able to go to school.Which I hope will help me help myself.Glad you enjoy your work it makes it almost to hard to go everyday if you don't.

  • @bearchay889 School will still have been one of the best things to have done with your time, even if it doesn't lead directly into a specific field.

  • I love the sincerity in your eyes in this one Curt, and I'm thrilled that you have a job to be grateful for!

So, can I borrow $20 til next thursday? ;)

    S.

  • @IWalk4tnt LOL

    I'd help if I could. ;-)

  • Wow! Great message Curt. One I think I really needed to hear right now...

    Thanks!

  • @hallbe It's tougher these days to keep the spirits up, I know.

Glad you got something out of this 5 minute ramble! :-)
