Thanks to all for checking out our videos, and for your comments/questions. Please be sure to check out our newest video for the HARApad Elite.
Our newest product actually blocks nearly 100% of the EMR! The 80% protection uses outdated technology that we dont even offer anymore. We are excited to offer the much more effective HARApad Elite - near 100% EMR protection!
Is a graph of attenuation vs frequency available, for specified distances and angles? If so, please can you provide a link to it, and to an account of the measurement methodology? If not, how can you be sure your marketing claims are not false?
@SamPabloKuper The range of frequencies the HARApad protects against are in the ELF range of the spectrum (3-300Hz). Our testing simulates use of a laptop on the lap, so measurement occurs with the tri-axial Gaussmeter in contact with the computer. The 3-dimensional resultant vector is the reduction we report, with the X-axis typically being the largest contributor to that. Additionally, we find 5-8 inches a typical safe zone from the emission of a computer, with 1-3 mG registering as "safe."
@HARApad So the HARApad only provides shielding from low frequency magnetic fields? That makes a bit more sense, since the conductive shielding built into most laptops as standard ought to be effective at attenuating all other electric field and magnetic field components produced by those laptops.
Assuming that's the case, the HARApad is presumably just an encapsulated slab of mu-metal. Is that correct?
@SamPabloKuper Great questions. From our experience, you might be surprised at how little shielding is incorporated into a laptop. They certainly DO shield from electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is not quite the same as electromagnetic radiation (EMR). EMR causes EMI, but they are different and must be treated differently. We have done extensive testing in this area and are more than happy to share results. In fact, we do publish some test results on our website at harapad.com
@SamPabloKuper And to answer your question about mu-metal, that is not the material we use. We had tested a myriad of materials and found something much better. That is why our newest product blocks almost 100% of the aforementioned ELF radiation, as opposed to the 80% attenuation of our earlier product.
Certainly you can understand that the exact material we use is a highly-guarded trade secret and that we cannot share exactly what it is. We are more than happy to answer questions though.
@SamPabloKuper That is correct. After years of searching we have indeed found a material with much higher permeability than mu-metal. That's why we're able to offer a product with nearly 100% reduction in the magnetic field.
@jaymaydee We are still working with some design ideas to best accommodate the user. We anticipate a release in about 2-3 months. Thanks for the interest!!
I'm thinking of purchasing one. I need to know, Will this Harapad reduce radiation not only from the base down, but from the base and up, and sides? Will our heads be protected as well? I have a job where I need to be in front of my laptop with wi-fi for almost the whole day. Was wondering. Thanks!!
@jaymaydee, The HARApad is effective in removing 99% of the radiation on the underside of the pad, where the majority of radiation exists. It is also effective in reducing radiation on the sides and some from the top. There is still a reasonable amount at the keyboard level, and we are in development of a new product to address this. As for the head, radiation levels drop off significantly at around 5-8 inches from the source, so your head is typically outside of this range under normal use.
@seanuspaulus, I completely understand your concern. If you're feeling unsure, you may want to look into acquiring a Gaussmeter, which is used to measure EMF. If you're sensitive to EMF anyway, it might be a wise investment for you. This tool will show the effectiveness of the HARApad, just like the video above. We are a small company, and the shielding is quite expensive. We are working on developing new designs for the pad, but the shielding is what does the work.
@Seanuspaulus, the HARApad will still protect you. The concern is not from the fan, but from the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the high current carrying components in your computer. The area containing the processor typically measures the highest by quite a significant amount. Without a HARApad, this EMR travels through your body, as the field rotates around the current carrying component. The HARApad simply redirects this EMR through the HARApad rather than through your body.
@HARApad Thanks for the reply,it's great that you have a product for radiation, there is alot of ignorance in society with regards to emr from laptops, people laugh at the idea when i say to them i feel unwell after using my laptop, but I KNOW it comes from my laptop.Thanks.
@HARApad Hi again,I have bought a harapad, can you guarantee me that it works,I have spent alot of money on ,I have to ask- is it a scam?Sorry I have to ask, just to make sure I am not being sold a clipboard? I hope you ca understand my concerns.Regards.J.
@HARApad Does Harapad make anything to reduce all forms of radiation ie radio waves, LCD or LED screens for PCs or TVs, cell phones, etc? If not can you direct me to a company. Thanks.
@sownzgr8 HARApad currently only manufactures the HARApad for laptop protection. We are currently in the development phase of several other products addressing the concerns you listed. For cell phone radiation, we recommend the BlueTube acoustic headset. It uses sound acoustics rather than electric signal to transmit sound to the ear.
Though it may look simple, there is actually quite a bit going on in the HARApad. There is a layer of this electromagnetic shielding metal between the plastic sheets that reroute the EMF away from your body and through the shielding, much like a wire routes current through itself.
@HARApad I might buy a harapad,I need one due to ill feeling when I use my laptop. One question, the fan of my laptop emits horizontally rather than downwards, the vent is at the back of my laptop rather than underneath? Will the harapad still protect me??
We use a Gaussmeter for our testing. It measures ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) Electromagnetic radiation, a range that scientists and doctors have deemed a threat to human health.

So what exactly is it? A layer of lead covered with plastic?
CallOfB00ty 1 year ago
@CallOfB00ty, the HARApad uses a trade-secret high-tech shielding that is both lead and tungsten free, and non-hazardous to one's health in any way.
