  • That's the guitar equivalent of playing tummy sticks.

  • Nils' u've been the man since u decided to rock! And as for Al Longo the Conn townie-prick, screw-off dickhead for drifting you frizzy-headed fuck-face! Nils said Cry Tough, but you faged-out, out, gone.

  • What a guitar player! and what a clown! Nils is really an amazing musician and a great showman: Bruce is so lucky to have him in his E.Street band.

However, I have doubts about these pants...

  • Most Cool! Nils is one High Energy Performer!

  • Love that solo Nils did with his brother at 2:50. Always brings a smile to my face hehe

  • Puts a big *grin* to my face.

    Fantastic ~~~

  • You gotta love Nils. He wrote some cracking tunes. And still is actually. He should stop faffing around with Springsteen ....

  • @wolfmei5ter Bruce's gigs pay the bills. I agree, and wish he would tour with a proper band again. And "Kick Ass!"

  • @wolfmei5ter

I agree maybe Springsteien pays good. My ex wife grew up a few blocks from Nils in Beth. Md and her and her tiny bob friends would peek in Nils basement window and watch Tom and Nils and Grin play

  • IN-FUCKING-DEED!

  • I want some of whatever they're on. Amazing!!

  • Grin was one of the best bandsof all time. Legends I tell you and extremely underrated. Those were the days music had substance and talent was real. Musician actually played their own instruments instead of grabbing their crotch. Long Live classic rock and roll. God Bless Clarence" The Big Man" Clemens RIP Hairisari

  • hey

  • I'm 21 years old and Nils Lofgren is one of my favourite rockers. Goes to show this music is timeless and appeals to all ages and races man..

  • @WietseBoersma

Nils Lofgren a rocker? What are you on mate?

  • @wolfmei5ter I apologise deeply, since it appears you have the monopoly on labeling music. What would you call it then?

  • @WietseBoersma Apology accepted. Someone who plays some melodic soft guitar is not a rocker. I'd call him a guitar player.

  • @wolfmei5ter He does play soft melodic tunes for sure, but he can also rock! And frequently did back in the day. He has his own sound and method of playing. I would say that he has gone softer of late.

  • Great Grin tune!

  • Rockpalast, Essen-Grugahalle, alle the greats...

Those were the days - glad to have seen them.

Does anybody have the Rockpalast-concert of Prince Charles and the city beat band

    (The Heavy-Metal of Funk!)?

  • Having been a fan since Grin, I finally saw Nils and the band in Bristol,UK, in '79......they were f****n' magnificent. Nils was and is one of thew most soulful guitar players around...carrying the torch for Jimi.

  • Such incredible talent, even 30 years ago. Nils is just amazing.

  • is the band with him Grin?

  • This is the band Nils had when he recorded the live album Night After Night. in 1978. The guitarist he faces while they play the neck of their own guitar and the strings of each others is his brother Tommy.

Nils was my main man as I came of age. His seminal work (imho) is the Authorized Bootleg he did at the Record Plant in Sausalito in 1975. Its truly spectacular and now available on CD through his site (just called Bootleg on the store page).

  • No. He was a solo artist at the time. The band, I'm pretty sure, is Nils and Tom Lofgren on guitars, Wornell Jones on bass, Rev. Patrick Henderson on keys, Mike Zack on drums.

  • fantostico

  • I think this is the best of all Nils bands through the years. I've seen them all many times from 1970 til-now!

  • This clip is from the DVD Nils Lofgren at Rockpalast. It has two great shows, one from 1976 and this one from 1979. I got mine from a third party seller on Amazon. It is a region 2 PAL disc. Luckily my cheap Apex DVD player is region free and Converts PAL to NTSC.

  • one of the first guys do to do tap harmonics

  • yep...got that right...

  • buenisimooo espectacularrr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wasn't this gig at the Grugahalle Essen ?

    Shown on WDR Rockpalast .

Backing bands were Southside Johnny , also Mitch Ryder .

  • Nils is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This gig is in Germany Rockpalast Koln.

The DVD is 90 minutes more great stuff

Nils might be the best guitarplayer ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is the DVD available? Whats the name?

  • hello,

The DVD is from the Rockpalast series.

Available in sevaral stores and certainly in das Rock und Pop Museum In Gronau Germany

  • @djobbie

    it is Essen Grugahalle

  • Best band Nils ever had

  • Anybody Know the name of the DVD this is on?

  • Nils is required listening before you get to call yourself a musician.

  • nils is awesome!!!!! his music is great!!!!!

  • I'd also love to see footage of Grin playing a slightly later song called "We All Sung Together". If anyone has it, please post?

  • I remember Nils playing a long time ago at the Wheaton Rec Center (?) on Georgia Ave in Wheaton, MD. I wonder if anyone has a vid of Grin playing a song called "Lost a Number" (2nd track) from the Dreamy Side of the 1+1 album (Spindizzy Z31038).

  • I remember Grin playing at the Parkville Rec Center in Parkville (Baltimore County) in like 1971. Even then he could bustamove- flip from a standstill. He was the reason I picked up a Stratocaster.

  • I saw him there many times. Paid 50 cents to get in, as I recall.

  • five years later i saw nils for the first time on tv - just him and his guitar - delivery night - i was 14 - and i was never the same again - i love this guy so much - this is just .........

  • he's on tour now with Bruuuuuuuuuuce Springsteen

  • I have this DVD, it's AMAZING.

  • The guitar solo on the Grin studio version is one of the best ever...

  • one of my favourite Nils numbers - he is one of the greatest (and most underrated) singers & players ever. Will never forget a Christmas gig in London where Nils had the surviving members of the Pretenders on stage with him and they did Silent Night, followed by - of course - Shine Silently. Thanks for this!

  • I dont get that backflip..

  • : ) Nils is a genious. It's cool. It's enough. No more meanings. Nils liked karate, kung-fu.

Rock and gymnastics ! No one is like Nils.

  • Great to see this video. I was fortunate enough to see GRIN at a small club in Nashville. Thanks for posting this clip for the rekindled memories.

  • amazing

  • !!! They are picking each others guitars from 02:50 to 03:13 !!!
