Completely unrecognizable. The Zeppelin is fun and did give us Stairway and Whole Lotta Love, but you gotta admit, though they give a good show, they really are terrible musicians. Yes, I said it. They stink musically. Always have.
@alphakid42 The Led Zeppelin weren't teerible musicians. They created a style quite messy, it's true, but they were the first band to ever mix Blues, Rock and Accoustic. Nobody will ever play the way they played, it was so new and particular. So, you can tell you don't like their vision of this song, but please, don't say they were "terrible musicians", 'cause you know that is not true ;) !
though i think the (original) band of joys mellow version is better, the chemistry of the band members of LZ makes it impossible for me to love BOJ's version more.
I can't believe that there are people that don't like this! Whatever.... Takes all kind's so they say ......There is a procedure they can do at at yor local ENT where they remove the wax from your ears!!
The second version is also the San Francisco part of Dazed and Confused from The Song Remains the Same.
I've always thought of Zeppelin, among other things, as masters of killer grooves. Just listen to that second version groove! Bonham playing a sexy beat and JPJ bobbing and weaving in and out and around it -- Page was so good that he drew most of the focus, but I love switching it up and only listening to JPJ's and Bonham's contributions. Or both. Damn I love this groove!
Zep's coverage is the highest form of compliment there is. Nothing has changed in all these decades. "When people fear the government, there is tyranny; when government fears the people, there is liberty."
this is bad ass, its got that grovin bass, like the lemon song, and some killer drum and guitar licks, along with plants flavor on top af it all, LED ZEPPELIN ROCKS MAN!!!!!
By the way, about 6:45 Plant starts quoting Joni Mitchell's song 'Woodstock', which CSN&Y (Stills and Young from Buffalo Springfield) covered and had a # 11 hit with on their Deja Vu album. Hmm.
Henrdrix's version of All Along the Watchtower, possibly greatest rock recording ever, was a cover. Clapton's 'unplugged' Layla was a cover...of himself. It's OK!
By the way, at about 6:45 Plant starts quoting Joni Mitchell's song 'Woodstock'--which CSN&Y covered on the album Deja Vu. Hm.
Henrdrix's version of All Along the Watchtower, possibly greatest rock recording ever, was a cover. Clapton's 'unplugged' Layla was a cover...of himself. It's OK!
Instead of prepairing a real show, Zep just meandered and droned on and the stoned chumps just ate it up''hey thats the greatest band of all time''.Zep played the hype card to the max, till this day morons are still eating it up.As far as developing riffs during this time, they were mostly stealing riffs from other band they toured with,as well as stealing songs, tabs, ect.
Nothing wrong with a good cover, Hendrix played "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" only 3 days after the album released, and Paul McCartney and George Harrison were in the audience. Ballsy.

Yes!! When you take big chances you can fall flat on your face, but when you don't...you get what we (for the most part) have today in pop music...boring, recycled mush...LZ II was composed mostly of riffs that the band had developed during their first tour...forward progress in art only happens through experimentation...
A lot of people just don't seem to get Zeppelin live. They had sections in their shows that they would just improvise. Plant would just sing any lyrics he could think of over these jams. Some of the music on this jam ended up on Presence. sometimes it was great sometimes it was awful but it was real and of the moment and that's whats missing from today's music
This is apparently a montage of two different jams, for those who seem to have not watched the whole thing. Anyone expecting Zep to do a "cover" that bears more than a passing resemblance to the original, doesn't know much about this band. Good stuff and worthwhile for some rare pics, in the bargain. Thanks for posting.
@Rhuarc224 Blehh...Nothing like an Internet warrior who thinks he's the best critic in the world, without having the balls of saying it to an artist face. Piss off...

@7BridgeProductions once again... huge fan of zeppelin, dont like covers... just because zeppelin does covers doesnt mean i dont love them. i just think they are a lazy way to write music. (not trying to talk trash guy, just my personal opinion). dont know why your being so hostile
we coulda stopped listening to the Stones a long time ago man! Best cover band of all time. Zeppelin were the scape goats. I don't think the Stones ever got sued?
have been into the Stones since '64, but they are NOT the greatest cover band ever. They may be The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World but the best all-time cover band has to be the Dead.
The lads are having fun... jamming in a moment of musical freedom that should be taken for what it is. the problem with too many people commenting is that they aren't players and therefore are less likely to understand that spontaneity such as this is really all in good fun. Is it great listening? Not particularly, but if you were at this gig you would likely have had one helluva great time. And this would have been part of it. and Plant throwing in the Beatles is also good fun. Just smile!
@EpilepticSpudmonkey What does that mean? Does being a classic earn it the title "better"? I prefer this version as well. I find it less bland and more soulful.
Why would you even make such a comment in the first place? Which version one prefers is PURELY subjective. And starting an argument with an insult?
the Blueberry Hill one totally captured the loose relaxed upbeat vibe of the song but made it heavier. Does the original justice but with more balls and musicianship in my opinion.. Page is on FIRE. The 1975 version has a darker more No Quarter type feel and I like the going to san fran version alot better. Still great improv and Plant also throws in Woodstock lyrics...they were so great at this stuff. The original is always "best" so don't bother comparing it's either good or not.
Why do people always have to compare a cover to its original? If you want an exact copy of the original, listen to the original and save yourself the time. If you want to hear a great song with a new arrangement, listen to a cover. Comparing different arrangments is useless and boring. They are different. Evaluate them on their own merit.
@richragan2 I think your version of that comment is somewhat creative and interesting, but the original version of that comment by some dude who said it about 65 years ago was SOOOO much better and you are just imitating the original version of that comment, and being so judgmental. In the original version of that comment the dude was asking a sincere question - more than he was accusing and criticizing other people..... Get it? See what I did there?! Clever, huh?! Thank You, Thank You...
@richragan2 I don't know, John Lennon's cover of Stand By Me sounded very much like the original, but I still appreciate it as something done by Lennon. As for why they compare, probably because they grow up hearing one or the other, and in their minds that because the defacto standard for that song. Covers affect their perceptions of their own memories.
@richragan2 I totally agree with you, but there are some songs that just shouldn't be touched or if they are they shouldn't be changed too much from the original. None the less Zeppelin can do no wrong in my eyes, and if they would have done a stuidio recording of it I'm sure it would have come off much better.
@richragan2 Because some covers shouldn't be done at all. And some are actually better. For example, Jimi Hendrix covering "All along the watchtower". It was so good that after Jimi covered it, Bob started singing it in the style of Jimi.
@BassHeadsProduction you gotta remember tho alot of the covers zeppelin did from the new yardbirds to about 72 were probably only rehearsed once, but they still stole the show every time!
the second version really shows the artistic change that led zeppelin went through around '75, and parts of that version almost sound like achilles last stand.
You know I am a Led Head from hell, but some songs you don't fuck with. Sorry, but for what its worth is just on of those songs. Its probly the only song they have done I do not like. In fact it is, not because the music sucks, it does not. Just they fucked with the wrong song.
@isamtator I must hastly agree with your opinion, some songs are best left for albums/cd's/cassests ETC...But you cant ALWAYS be perfect and this song fits the bill. Which is why most of Zeps critics have an argument with music, which is some of the reason why the were not COMMERCIALLY liked, which made the critics even more hostile, they had so much money and power they called all the shots, from touring to producing 70's bandsTo musical develpment with signed swansong label acts.
Jimmy Page was such a bamf he could go one day as a heroine addict to the next sober quit cold turkey off heroine if that isnt beast status idk what is
No time to read all the comments, but i m sure some1 has already noticed the ,also extremely cool moment, when Plant sings some lyrics from "I Saw Her Standing There"on the 1st version.
How do I see which one of these mentioned guitar players has more soul? Do they have like a bigger shadow? Or does the guitar blink more when playing? How can I really tell? I don't wanna spend the rest of my life listening to people with less soul than others.. please help
Lol, Jimi had more soul? Please...he played acid rock...Pagey played the blues with mastery, something that requires true emotion. Since I've Been Loving You < 3
@willou901 if you're trying to say hendrix didn't play blues, or didn't play 'soulfully', then you obviously never even listened to him. It's as simple as that. Hendrix > Page. he was infinitely more original, influential and skilful. (no disrespect to page though, of course)
hendrix played hendrix and page played jimmy page. ive always said them 2 were my favorite guitarist and im never gonna say which one is favorite. theyre both great and uncomparible. the only difference is that hendrix enoyed a stratocaster and jp liked a les paul
IM SO PISSED I WASNT BORN SOON ENOUGH TO SEE THIS LIVE IN PERSON, now, just need to prove Eistein wrong so i can time travel to experience this firsthand
@DanielMatthewHerrera already did....but I'll be the first to admit Page was WAY more versatile and creative in different ways...and a better producer and was smart enough to live longer
@TheSpartan1034x and you are douchebag who is like all the other youtube people, put your money where your mouth is and do better, or shut the hell up
everytime they land on this part of Dazed and Confused live, he sings lyrics from other songs that'll fit this tempo, and it really does end up sounding great, even this one. i dont know about you, but to me it sounds really great if you'd hear more of it. but if he sounds like a 'stuck pig', hahah...then i guess you shouldnt bother.
@TheSpartan1034x Nice attempt at trolling. Anyone who bothers trying to argue with you is an idiot since you are obviously just saying such things to piss someone off in an attempt to feel important for just a moment. Try again, please.

You know I am a Led Head from hell, but some songs you don't fuck with. Sorry, but for what its worth is just on of those songs. Its probly the only song they have done I do not like. In fact it is, not because the music sucks, it does not. Just they fucked with the wrong song.

@mividaloca42 Fuck you it is my opion and mine to share.
isamtator 9 months ago
@isamtator I must hastly agree with your opinion, some songs are best left for albums/cd's/cassests ETC...But you cant ALWAYS be perfect and this song fits the bill. Which is why most of Zeps critics have an argument with music, which is some of the reason why the were not COMMERCIALLY liked, which made the critics even more hostile, they had so much money and power they called all the shots, from touring to producing 70's bandsTo musical develpment with signed swansong label acts.

I don't wanna spend the rest of my life listening to people with less soul than others.. please help
DomCurty 9 months ago
@DomCurty Well I doubt most would say Angus Young's got soul in his work...lol

I had heard this existed for quite awhile and now having finally arrived here, it is jolly well worth the trip.
timewind76 9 months ago
Lol, Jimi had more soul? Please...he played acid rock...Pagey played the blues with mastery, something that requires true emotion. Since I've Been Loving You < 3
willou901 9 months ago 3
@willou901 if you're trying to say hendrix didn't play blues, or didn't play 'soulfully', then you obviously never even listened to him. It's as simple as that. Hendrix > Page. he was infinitely more original, influential and skilful. (no disrespect to page though, of course)
rawoofi 9 months ago
@rawoofi
hendrix played hendrix and page played jimmy page. ive always said them 2 were my favorite guitarist and im never gonna say which one is favorite. theyre both great and uncomparible. the only difference is that hendrix enoyed a stratocaster and jp liked a les paul
MrGergen 9 months ago 2
@MrGergen
i always thought jimmy did his best stuff on the paisley tele.
edslides1 7 months ago
@edslides1
he does sound good on a telecaster
MrGergen 7 months ago
yeah, hendrix really lacked mastery and emotion, especially on the album "Blues".
Do i need to emphasize the sarcasm?

Page is an awesome guitarist but his guitar always sounds out of tune for some reason.

only Led Zeppelin videos spark such comment wars, only because people don't know how to handle Zep's awesomeness, so it scares them into fighting it.

as far as im concerned jimmy page is the best guitar player when it comes to riffs, no one can touch, not even hendrix
TheTeehee97 10 months ago
@TheTeehee97 hendrix beats page, page is jesus hendrix is god
shaka7611 10 months ago
@shaka7611 Hendrix can play, but he can't bring the soul of the guitar out like Page can.
StalkingRainbow 10 months ago
@StalkingRainbow I think Jimi had more soul than Page
Noseheros 9 months ago
@Noseheros Although it might be true, don't say that. At least not on this video.
DanielMatthewHerrera 9 months ago
@DanielMatthewHerrera already did....but I'll be the first to admit Page was WAY more versatile and creative in different ways...and a better producer and was smart enough to live longer
Noseheros 9 months ago
Just love the negativity here,,, too bad he missed out on the scene and/or never got the message.

steffsweet45 10 months ago
@TheSpartan1034x
everytime they land on this part of Dazed and Confused live, he sings lyrics from other songs that'll fit this tempo, and it really does end up sounding great, even this one. i dont know about you, but to me it sounds really great if you'd hear more of it. but if he sounds like a 'stuck pig', hahah...then i guess you shouldnt bother.

@TheSpartan1034x Nice attempt at trolling. Anyone who bothers trying to argue with you is an idiot since you are obviously just saying such things to piss someone off in an attempt to feel important for just a moment. Try again, please.
