US government does not controol media! You not specifically saying who says what but talk shows on fox are one sided but there is one even talk show. Talk shows state there opinion and do not hold the opinions of government and are not in any contact. Russia government has to approve press and russia does control TV so it obvious. Russia has improved in other areas though like welfare and economy.

It is true that press does go through the approval of the Kremlin, but not TV. There are shows like comedy club in moscow that make jokes of the government but not in the harsh way like in the US but still in a funny way by making fun of some of the politicians.

I think that Russians are afraid to say harsh things of Putin and other politicians because of fear of retaliation. The best example would be Anna Politkovskaya and because of her opinions its not surprising she was assinated. Putin called her an extemist but she did report factual info on Chechnia. Isn't is suspisious that journalist weren't allowed in Chechnia and she was threated to death when she was captured in Chechnia?
