It's a pole test! Euroncap standard is a crash against a deformable wall at 64 km/h, 1/3 frontal impact...a frontal pole test would be negative even for the most recent cars.
before late 80's safety was so bad, the 205 was a good handling car, specially the gti but in was a death trap in case of high speed crash, many young drivers lost their lives with this mythical hot hatch
@McVaio lol, I would'nt really consider that a safe car... It's a 1980's truck, so if you hit a pole of something concrete, you are screwed... and if you turn sharp, it can roll over, and the Bronco came before the Explorer, so it must have even worse roof structure and stability than the Explorer :P
I don't know about that, but I've seen a Bronco versus a new Hyundai compact car... the compact was half gone and the Bronco even had its fenders straight :-P
I remember seeing a video from the 70's or early 80's where they crash a train against American cars sideways. The cars had just dents at the most, amazingly solid structures! From the 80's on, everything went downwards... :-(
@McVaio A "solid" car like the US cars before the 80's it the WORST idea ever.
In a accident, you're slowed down hard. If you car doesn't crush, so your body does.
Even if you don't hit the wheel and your belt resist, your internal organs and brain hit your bones.
So you're dead.
A car that crushes itself saves you. This car may seems unsafe, but remember first it's a citadine car, not a big-ass US car. The basic 205 weight less than a ton.
And 70km/h is a very high speed, ANY car will crush.

Well yeah, the above Peugeot is a good example of how it should be LOL!
The trains crashed sideways into the passenger compartment. There is no way you can build a crumple zone in the side of a car. The 205 doesn't crush in a controlled way at all, it just crushes. I'd far rather be in a solid US car. Of course Americans also know these days that crumple zones are a good idea, so take a look at the crash tests (here on YouTube) of the Lincoln Towncar and Chrysler 300C.
