i just found out something!!! maybe you guys figured it out already but i'll tell u anyway just incase. in the FOOD section, to get numbers 1-20, you will need to wait in the stage untill the skull monster appears! i've experimented with what food you get in the next stage in accordance to the number of moves he make. it could very well be time spent as well, but to what i can conclude, the food in the next stage RANDOMISES between no.1-20. hope that helps, i just need 5 ITEMS and 4 FOODS now!
You know if you reach level 17, 23, 28, 36, 46, and 52 WITHOUT continuing, you get the secret door items (with its own element like fire, water etc) which takes you to the fairy statue room. I've managed to do that, collect the grumple heart in stage 70, break the mirror in stage 85, and completed the game. However don't get too excited as the ending message like the one you posted still shows up with no changes (maybe you should complete the game with 4 players???).
I just got the true ending (playing solo). I don't think you have to enter the secret rooms, because I skipped a couple on that run (but did enter the one on 52...)
I'm pretty sure you just have to get the heart on 70, break the whatever-it-is on 85, and also collect the six "fairy's tears" items (the ones that make giant fruit fall from the sky). When the game boots you back from 100 to 70, the fairy's tears should appear on stages 71-76.
No, you can do it all on one runthrough. The fairy tears will usually show up at the beginning, too. It's just that if you miss them, you'll get another chance once the game boots you back to level 70.
Hey Billmaan, I did everything that was required and still you get the same ending (4-players don't make one difference whatsoever). On top of that though, have you (by any chance) collected all the items and foods? I've got 102 foods out of 110, and 63 items out of 69. Tell me what items and food you need and i might help you :-)
Some items and food are unobtainable. In particular, the items that require 3 parasols and 4 parasols, along with the one that requires 3 books of the dead, can't be obtained. Some of those (assuming I know what they're supposed to be) also spawn food items you can't get anywhere else.
I _also_ haven't gotten the item that requires 2 tiaras and the one that requires completing level 100, even though I've done both several times. I suspect they're unobtainable too, but I can't back that up.
yeah those are the items i haven't got as well. i also haven't got the one where you collect 15 crowns. have you got that, and what's the easiest way to get the crowns? the foods that i haven't got yet are:

If you need help with certain things don't hesitate to ask :-). what i may try to do next is complete the game (including defeating the boss) without continuing. i've managed to reach the boss's room without continuing but died at the fight. even though the item that's supposed to appear after the fight didn't, therefore i have this nasty feeling that one would need to complete the WHOLE game without continuing. i'll let you know as soon as i've done it.
Just to let you know, I managed to get all types of crowns and got the crystal orb thanx to your good advice. Therefore I got food no.56, 58, and 60 (the crowns).
By the way Billmaan I just got an e-mail from the Taito corporation and they said that there ARE some misprograming that the engineers are looking into. They're working on it as we speak and if there are any updates (from the wii) in the near future, Taito will let us know.

Note: "Super Durunk" is a mistranslation of "Super Drunk", the Japanese name for "Grumple Grommit".

So is it imperitive that you have to (in order):
1) NOT collect Grumple's heart in stage 70
2) Break the mirror in stage 85
3) Defeat the last boss (hence warping back to stage 70)
4) Break the statue in stage 70 (and get the grumple heart)
5) Collect the 6 fairy teardrops
6) Kill the last boss again?

You can only get crowns in a 2 player game. Clear a stage very quickly and you'll get a crown in the next stage.
