The song was written by Randy Stonehill who is from Stockton, California, and has red hair. Where do you get the Caribbean or African American origin?
no ofense, but this is an african spiritual, this has no soul, and obviously judging by the coments, the commentors have all right to say what they said. it was tone def. it had no soul, you looked like you were bored. And if u could keep on tempo maybe you wouldn't have to have some person messing up the song with drumsticks?? thats just my professional input. but please, don't sing that song. like ever, unles you have a completely new choir. With people who know how to sing a spiritual (black)
You gotta' hand it to them for the naturality of the singing. I've heard several of the high-performance choir productions of this song, and these people pretty much own it, (...for all their casual graces.)
that was good! thanks for the video. One thing though (that I always say but it's often true), you guys need to SMILE! PLEAASE! Choirs always forget that the way you look (facial) is almost as important as the singing itself as it can also alter the singing! SMILE!
Wow i was looking on here to see what some of the other choirs sound like cuz im singing this at my school this year and you guys are the best on here! lol
You know, I don't understand why we're comparing "who did better." Can't we just enjoy what this choir obviously worked hard to present? They did a wonderful job. Congratulations.
they just need to work on the ranges of the bass. and their vowels some work. they sounded childish, and it is a shame because they could be an awesome chior with better instruction.
Just sung this song..... oh my gosh... XD We did it more as a group, though.... and we ahd a lot more people....... But overall it was pretty good! ^^;;
Yeah....no. I come from a chamber choir of 22 people. Half of them are tone deaf and we did a hell of a lot better than what I just heard on that video. The basses sound like they haven't hit puberty yet and they're trying to sing low D's. Why are the soloists trying to sound like Brittney effing Spears? It's not a pop song ladies, don't scoop in to your notes. On a total scale of 1-10 that got a -10. Sorry but somebody has to tell you the truth.
basses were PAINFUL. I'm performing this as a bass now, and my ears hurt listening to those crappy basses. That shouldnt have won shit lol my choir owns that choirs ass, I would hate to listen to the other entries
The only problem was that we went faster since our principal was gonan cut it form the program whatever. You guys suck Its suppose to sound jhamaican not white -_- Middle schools did better then you guys.
I love love love LOVE this song!!!! We're the Valley High School Advance Women Choir and we're singing this on April 27, 2007 over in LA, hope we're as good as you gys YOU GUYS ROCKS!!!!!!!!
i like this song, i sang it back in 8th grade. Just one thing, when the guys say "de do" and "de devil" we did it so that the basses hit that low E, it sounded awesome like that
ehhh it's okay, but i've heard much better... this is a jamaican song (or so you say? i usually thought a lil more african) and you basically have no dialect... if your gonna sing an african song, sing it like you're african =P give some cred to it's roots, even if you all are (like me) pasty white, hahaha
I give this a 4/5. I sang this song in 8th grade. And it was much different than the way you guys did it. So I guess I'm just clinging to my style. Buy you guys did a great job.
thought it was good myself.
