  • i love IH tractors. i dont have the room or need for a farm tractor, but i revived a 1971 cub cadet 147 that was built buy IH. it has a little K301 engine that i rebuilt, i know its supposed to have a 14 hp but i had a good 12 hp block that i rebuilt. i used the tractor today to do the driveway. i love those little IH built cub cadet, built just like the big tractors except it will fit in you lawn. i mow 2 acres with it and have a large driveway. she's small but still an IH

  • @ad356 Those little Cub Cadet tractors were some pretty good workhorses, and they still do well for so many things today.

In the time that has passed since this video was made, we got this tractor running. It's even been partially restored.

  • I see a A-C round baler in there too!

  • THERE IS A 1944 FARMALL ID9 ON EBAY TILL 2/16/12

  • I had to take my Pontiac Fiero through a pasture once...

  • Have you got her to run yet?

  • @dirtbiker4lfe Yes they got her runing a few weeks ago on a video Farmall June 2011 update and a other video when they drive it to they house.

  • deader than a hammer

  • i think of this tractor can work, please charge the part 2 i'm curious

  • I got an old 36 F-14...need to get the poor thing running.

  • cant wait to see more of that old tractor. its acting just like a stuborn old farmall by the way

  • My Uncle had an old Farmall. Not sure if your Farmall has this, but my Uncle's also had a crank start in addition to the electric start.

  • Practically all old tractors had a crank start, even if they had an electric starter in place. I'm not sure if that was a tacit admission that six volt systems were not always able to do the job, or if it was provided because rural farm families might have used the battery to run other things, like a farm radio. I've heard that prior to full rural electrification being completed, using a battery from a car, truck or tractor for other electrical power needs was commonplace on farms.

  • I estimate that there will be 4 parts about the tractor

  • Nice C.

  • part2???

  • It takes time to get starters fixed and all that good stuff. There is a sort of part 2 on the keykeeper's channel, so look there if you want more and haven't seen us working on the starter yet.

  • Sitting that long you likely have corrosion between the commutator and brushes, maybe worn brushes.

  • Actually, the brushes looked great. I was pretty surprised.

No idea why it doesn't run...the switch definitely closes under an ohmmeter test and there is continuity. It's beyond me and the tools I have here, so I have turned it in to a guy I know that does great automotive/tractor electrical work.

  • Seen WAY worse out here parked in the woods run again with the right person working on it. Of course acid cleaning of the tank and full teardown of the carb and sediment bowl is important. Fun trying to find a 6v battery for those oldies anymore too. My brother has a Ford NAA and 8N, both about the same age as the Farmall. The NAA we pulled from a field near Chicago back in the 70's and totally overhauled it, engine and trans included.

  • Lots of stores around here are carrying six volt batteries. I've even seen eight volt batteries, which are seemingly a way to cheat a little more zip out of a six volt system assuming the generator can be adjusted to put out enough voltage and current to charge the higher voltage battery.

I have not tried an eight volt battery. I've found that when I go over a six volt system, clean it up and get the regulation working properly, they work acceptably well once again.

  • As it is, the six volt batteries are available with higher current capacity ratings than the eight volt ones, which is why I've favored them.

I hear a lot of people talk a six volt system down, but they should remember that the systems worked when they were new, and that 50+ years of dust and heat tends to take its toll on them.

  • thats a beauty ! looks like a 6 volt system. love those old tractors

  • You'll get her running. That barn doesn't look to stable though!

  • @JeffN727 Yeah, the barn has been better days. Unfortunately, most of the people in my family don't care. Those that do (like me) don't have the resources to help the old barns, although my dad is trying to get another one reroofed after he arranged to have the doors rebuilt and put back on.

  • 7:29 nice farmers tan

  • Poor Farmall.... hopefully everything will workout for the best

  • Cannot wait for Part 2!! Kepp up the great work, I love these videos!!!

  • did someone steel the brushes out of the starter motor?

  • @1944johndeerel No, they did not. The motor is intact. We even found the inspection cover. It had been rudely shoved behind the starter.

  • @uxwbill odd? wierd that it wont work. usually they will spark hum or at least give some sign of life.

  • Yeah, it really surprised me. I don't know if someone tried to fix it and botched the attempt. My guess is that the starter failure is what caused this tractor to be forgotten.

  • @uxwbill sure seems that way! well at least you can get good used parts from ebay if all else fails.

  • @uxwbill

If starter failure is the problem, then i hope you rased on your savings becase for my tractor, a new replacement starter costs about $149.

  • @watcher206 My dad saw one on eBay with the bidding set to $18. I didn't look at it, so I don't know if it was a working unit.

As it is, I know a VERY good automotive/tractor electrical repairman. If it can be fixed, he will fix it. It's in the shop now.

  • I have an old dead farmall as well, wouldn't mind sending you a video if it would be interesting :) 1957 McCormick Farmall 700 with a New Idea 500 bucket lift and over/under trans. Yours looks to be a 1947-1949 F-series.

  • @posessedatari If it's on your channel, I will check it out!

  • I have waited a long time to see you make one of the vehicle/tractor vids that you guys make. Cannot wait for Part 2!! Kepp up the great work, I love these videos!!!

  • So i saw that the starter is bad so what are you going to do with the starter. I just can't wait untall that thing to start and run. Also i just can't wait untall the old forgotten truck runs too becuse i saw part 4 it did run a littie bit.

  • Love the cameo from the Big Brown Piece of Junk. :)

  • Can't wait for part 2!

  • Arizona tea for the win!

I am definitely looking forward to part 2. I wonder if it might be a good idea to take the plugs out and dump a little bit of marvel mystery oil (or even plain old motor oil) in there to free up the rings. They might be stuck after 30 years...

  • keep us posted

  • heres a couple words of advice from a farmall guy. make sure the spark plug wires you put back are copper core, the other style just wont work even if you convert the tractor to 12v. another thing is put some oil in the cups on the generator, 3in1 is what ive always used.

that C isnt in too bad, ive got a very early first year 1948 model awaiting restoration. give me the serial number, i can tell you the year and month produced

  • best of luck with this old girl. you will get her going again!!

  • hahaha at the Key Keeper's " FARMERS TAN" hahaha hes ORANGE at 7:24 and I cracked up at your " DEAD AS A HAMMER " pun.

  • wow sure that tractor is really really old! But is nice! I've never seen a Gas Tractor in my life, here in italy even the oldest one is Diesel with only one cylinder (Landini is called)

  • I'm not a expert on farmalls, but I do have a friend that has a few. A couple cubs, a A,and a H. I think all of them have hand cranks as a backup. The cubs do for sure.

  • Well, it's unfortunate that it was the starter motor itself that is the problem. But I'm sure that you will get the old girl goin' again!

  • They had an article on the International Harvester Farmall. Interesting stuff man good luck with that baby!

  • Wow, that starter looks almost exactly like the one off my 1957 Hercules L6.
