I beg to differ. I find it crudely loud and bangy. Terrifying for sure, but not haunting. That comes from subdued voices, as specified by the composer.
@kiisaka I agree, most of this piece is marked pp. It makes it much harder to play in some sections at greater dynamics, think this is why the pianist has such wild variations in tempo. Don't think the technique is lacking in any way, just that he is making life very difficult for himself. This is Ravel, not Rachmaninoff; think Chopin and the French school of pianism. Less is more...
Such elegant, gorgeous playing. This is how its DONE.
All you pianists out there should worship this man's playing. This man is one of the greatest alive today, and holds his own against giants of the past as well.
Que impresionante!!!. Tuve el gusto de escuchar en vivo a este grandioso pianista en Monterrey (con obras de Rachmanninov). ES ALGO MAS QUE EXTRAORDINARIO!!!. por siempre FELICIDADES!. Gilberto Salazar.
Very impressive! A favorite piece of mine (which I have played in concert, but not this well!). The blazing speed which he tosses off some of the difficulties here remind one of Argerich - but of course with not quite the musical-tonal artistry.
Great facility, of course, but this is intellectually atrocious. It's a 500-pound Scarbo.

One of the best clímax on the final that I ever seen!
I don't know if Mr. Prats will see that, but you have changed lifes with yours interpretations.
