During this he also returned back to the Mr Olympia contest to see if he could retake the title after only a short time back at serious weight training. He won the Mr Olympia, even though he way off his prime. This was the last time Arnie would appear in such shape. Even his second Conan film he was not as bulky.

Everything about this scene is perfect: The music, the acting, the dialogue, the action, the storytelling. It's dramatical; the character's reactions are not ridiculous like in the new movie (sword to the sky and "RAAAAARGH"). The shitty movies made nowadays can't compare to masterpieces like CONAN THE BARBARIAN with ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER!

Depth?? No, it just gave the ocassional impression of such due 2 the "deep" narrated fragments cherrypicked frm the original Conan timeline (from the books).
Stallone (and producers) did exactly the same 2 Judge Dredd, which is why such titles are fair game 4 a remake although that in it's self suggests there is too much investment capital chasing 2 few original scripts over recent years.
Worth a watch though, if only 4 the 2 "bad guys" that ilustrate that Arnie is actually quite a small guy!

@43aristotel that's not the only mistake they did. the main one is pure dramatical ones. like making conan invincible and laughing when fighting. it's an error so grave in dramatical theory, because it takes all suspens out of the scenes. arnold's conan wasn't an expert in the beginning, he was just a big oaf not knowing anything about the world.

Basil Poledouris music is among the most inspired and impressive and probably most congenial composed of all motion picture soundtracks I know-and this film a film of my childhood is epic indeed.

New Conan- every1 knows it 's terrible for many reasons...and the music wasnt epic at all...but i will try to save a few aspects...
1) the relationship between father and son in the new film is great...better than the original...even though the father in the first one gives a great speech on how men found steel...
2)the CGI cities look great! for posters! even though u never have the feeling to be in a city, at any point....
watched new the new Conan....and...well...its different and has nothing of the feel the original had, i mean the scene when he drops down into the ancient tomb where he discovers steel once again...was FUCKING AWESOME! The music...riddle of steel captured the mood perfectly.

The camp/village did not seem to be on high ground and they didn't have a proper perimeter fence. There is only a stone wall which horses can jump over.

The best thing about this movie is Arnie and John Millias' commentary on the DVD. Its worth buying the DVD just for their commentary - they were obviously pissed while recording it :D
Why this scene is good is because of the authentic feel it gives, there is no green screen here. They're in a snowy (snow may be fake?) forest and riding horses!

In the original version they deleted the part when Conan speaks about battle philosophy with Thebutai, they filmed the scene because in the books Conan is a smartass, a big badass smartass. That's one of the reasons Conana would become King.

They did use some elements from this movie though like the death of Conan's father and who his father's killer was. But they did stay true to the books mainly. New Conan- every1 knows it 's terrible for many reasons...and the music wasnt epic at all...but i will try to save a few aspects...
1) the relationship between father and son in the new film is great...better than the original...even though the father in the first one gives a great speech on how men found steel...
2)the CGI cities look great! for posters! even though u never have the feeling to be in a city, at any point....
3)the sand men are pretty cool...
4)fighting is nice...

watched new the new Conan....and...well...its different and has nothing of the feel the original had, i mean the scene when he drops down into the ancient tomb where he discovers steel once again...was FUCKING AWESOME! The music...riddle of steel captured the mood perfectly.
To HELL WITH these remakes.
IMO don't rush something as epic as Conan, and innovation....fuck that shit, do something that works.
Overall Original Conan for me 9/10
New Conan 2011 5/10

The remake tops the original because the new Conan is bigger and tougher.The new conan actually fought in UFC and won the heavyweight title,so that's why he is legit,plus Arnold spent half of this movie running like a girl.

What I'm thinking is; Did they not have a lookout?! Perhaps the guy standing on the rock is the lookout who betrayed the village.
The camp/village did not seem to be on high ground and they didn't have a proper perimeter fence. There is only a stone wall which horses can jump over.

The best thing about this movie is Arnie and John Millias' commentary on the DVD. Its worth buying the DVD just for their commentary - they were obviously pissed while recording it :D

Why this scene is good is because of the authentic feel it gives, there is no green screen here. They're in a snowy (snow may be fake?) forest and riding horses!

yes of course everyone is gonna love the remake with the super awesome cgi, but you know what, i dont care for cgi nowadays, i cared for T2, i cared for Aliens but not for a stoner Conan with cgi skeletons and a soulless direction !!
i want Arnold, cheesey acting and filmmaking maybe but their heart was there.
and i will be so pissed off if i dont hear the Anvil of Crom on the opening titles.

In the original version they deleted the part when Conan speaks about battle philosophy with Thebutai, they filmed the scene because in the books Conan is a smartass, a big badass smartass. That's one of the reasons Conana would become King.

@Saukratese1 No it won't. CGI just makes shit look fake. The 1982 Conan actually looked and felt like the ancient world, the new one just looks like 21st century eye candy. And forget about the story line, you know it's gonna be crap.

@Saukratese1 I just saw it and I thought it was good. You have to remember they weren't trying to remake the movie, They were adapting one of the books into another conan movie. They did use some elements from this movie though like the death of Conan's father and who his father's killer was. But they did stay true to the books mainly. For e.g. in the books it says that Conan was born in battle and his mother died that same day. It was an ok film honestly ^___^

@richie8811 Not since Bambi's mother was killed has there been a cannier movie for kids than "Conan the Barbarian." It's not supposed to be just a kids' movie, of course, and I imagine a lot of other moviegoers will like it. I liked a lot of it myself, and with me, a few broadswords and leather jerkins go a long way. But "Conan" is a perfect fantasy for the alienated preadolescent. - Roger Ebert review way back in 1982. Read the rest yourself.
