I really say "Kudos" to the "Judicial Watch" guy for stating his opinion. It took a lot of guts. It seems he was the only one of the four (no wait, FIVE including Bill! LOL) that had that opinion...
@InformationVideos Yeah! this whole fucking gay marriage issue... what's next? I bet right now their plotting to legalize interracial marriage, those open-minded bastards. seriously though, incest causes inbred children, and with bestiality you can't get an animal's consent. if you can't tell the difference between fucking a guy and fucking a goat, then you're an idiot.
I can't believe this is still being debated... what will happen if gay marriage is legalized... gay people will get married, that's it. Schools won't start teaching kids how to have gay sex, there won't be any plagues, or anything. Banning gay marriage is a violation of an American's constitutional right to get married.
to think 12 years later and this debate is still going on. Why do people always have an opinion on something that doesnt affect them at all. The last thing i care about a person is whether they are gay or if the are theists.
That moron is so anti-change forgetting (possible never even researched it) that if marriage didn't change, women would not be as excited to do it as they are now nor would they be as free with their sexuality given rape was "punished" by the man having to buy the woman as a wife. Marriage is stupid and pointless but if it puts gays in a bigger step towards equality, I'm all for that. Christians really need to shut up and stop playing the victem.
personally i think marriage is a proclamation of two peoples love for each other. thats what ive always thought and thats what I will always see marriage as. regardless of race, gender and sexuality.
@Claronium780 It's a fabricated pseudo-semantic argument, don't worry about it. Marriage = the state of being married. Look up "marry" in any dictionary, it will merely tell you it means "to unite".
Leave it to a guy in a suit to act like a tool, make no sense, and spew hatred. I will tell you why children and animals can't get married dumbass because they cannot consent. What two consenting adults do with their own lives is none of your business. What a self rightious prick. I hope he is not married. Ew. I feel for his wife if so! :)
Oh Yup.. Sooo, lets just say "Heterosexual Family A" beats their kids, and "Homosexual Family B" are the most loving, caring parents ever, they can't get married, NONONONOOOOO, cos we need to keep them with the beating hetro family because only a hetro family will protect their children.. Just makes tons of sense. Jeeze people are stupid.. Last i knew, marriage was about love and unity, not defining something as "One sex with another sex"
His next ignorant statement is “it is proven the best way to rise a child is in a mother father environment” hahaha well a recent poll just discovered the opposite to be true for lesbian parents lol.
The duchbag even proclaims that the purpose of marriage is for procreation lol if that were the case I wonder if he believes people who are impotent should not be allowed to get married also since they cannot procreate either?
What a surprise the uptight asshole in the cheap suit is using the exact same arguments the Jim Crow south used to fight inter-racial marriage lol. Marriage is a legal binding contract/document between two people and the state/government no more, no less.
@EndConnection PI was on ABC owned by Disney, Real Time is on HBO which is a premium cable network and air dates are different than on a television network like ABC. I doubt Bill makes decisions about the decor.
I miss this show. I was 16 when this show got cancelled, just getting old enough to appreciate it. But I'm glad he's on HBO now. Thats where he belongs because he can say whatever the fuck he wants.
Sometimes albeit he goes a little far, but he's usually right if you think about it enough. And sometimes, whether you like it or not, things need to be questioned and confronted.
It's true - Bill's constant formula on PI was to have one absolutely irredeemable douchebag on every panel just to function as a foil for whatever reasonable conversation was otherwise going on.
why are the kids always brought up when discussin about marriage? there are couples with kids that wont even plan about getting married + pairs, that intend to get married but dont want kids. And I dont find anything weard in these kind of couples. Even if a gaycouple gets married, who says they all automatically want to become parents?? :D Not all people dream about having kids because they just dont like the idea of such. I never inted to get kids but yeah, will get married at some point
It's amazing we are STILL debating it because of the superstitious Christians.
It's been legal in Denmark since...1989. We haven't seen that country end western civilization or cause divine retribution the Christians seem to have a hard on about.
Denmark has had people born and raised thinking it's just another part of life... and they are just fine. You hateful Christians should be ashamed of yourselves.
not only gay marriage, Denmark doesn't unnecessarily lock people up for marijuana or prostitution...and yet they don't seem to have muc happier people, a lower crime and less marijuana smokers.
We just have to face it, American is and always will be ran by idiots...
I think by letting conservative Christians run the show...thats how its got to be.
The power of superstition is a strong one. Plenty of liberals are still "god" fearing. Plenty of the more intelligent conservatives STILL have to kiss ass to the Christians or they won't get elected.
But hey...basing laws and actions around an invisible sky genie sounds so logical to some...guess its easier than taking responsibility for our own actions if things go bad!
@hipstermi Oh Conservatives, where would we be without you? Oh wait, a much better world : ) lol Isn't the Conservative on here so stupid, people like him have been using the same bigoted arguments for years haven't they?
Has same-sex marriage really been legal in Denmark since 1989 ? Is that full same-sex marriage or just civil unions?
Denmark is Civil Unions the first to do so. Makes these backward ass superstitious conservatives look really stupid. since 1989...somehow Denmark didnt cause WW3, call down Rapture fury, or have devils storm the nation.
@hipstermi I just pictured you telling the westboro baptist church that. For a second I thought that would make a difference, but nah, they'd just change their signs to "God Hates Denmark!" haha!
"'s not only Christians. Most religions look down on homosexuals."
Point? IF you are asking what I think of those other religions...they all have the invisible beings with magical powers and seem just as silly and ridiculous to me.
IF you are mentioning other religions to "prove" there's something wrong with homosexuality... let's go back to the invisible beings with magical powers to see how rational they actually sound.
@hipstermi I wasn't saying that it isn't only Christians that say being gay is bad, it's other religions too. The point wasn't to use the other religions as a way to prove that it is wrong, it is that i felt you were generalizing the gay hate mostly on Christians when being gay in Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries is punishable by death.
I focued more on Christians because in the US they are the majority of religious folk. But yeah...I think the Jewish, Muslim, etc. doctrines against gays is just as shameful. Still...they are entitled to those beliefs about magical powered beings, just dont cite it as law I say.
Same way my Baptist friends shouldnt have to legally give up pork because of my Muslim friends....but both co-exist.
@hipstermi As a liberal Christian, I agree completely that it should be legal and that people are being ridiculous and intolerant. I just wanted to point out that, I grew up in Denmark, and being gay isn't quite something people think of as "just another part of life". I mean, its a LOT better than how it sounds in the US, but a lot of people, mostly guys, are still uncomfortable with homosexuality and somewhat homophobic. There's still a ways to go to equality and tolerance everywhere.
The majority of American people also thought blacks were the beast of the field at some point and time. Dude lives in a box. His a--hole is prob size of a silver dollar...I can't stand phobes!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Marriage muat be left for religious institutions. Government and other people should not have a saying in what other couples do in their lives. we keep lecturing muslim countries on how to saperate religioun from government yet we do that in the west.
well just because you're right, doesn't mean it'll happen. If you can make money off of it, don't fix it. That's the American way. It's the system that's corrupt, I believe the church, or religious institutions has lost it's hold in the fabric of the American people. So defending marriage is becoming the churches last stand on morals, but in Congress it's another way to make money off the American people.
So because you think it's nasty it should be illegal? How would you feel if the majority was gay and thought banging pussy was gross so they outlawed hetero marriage?
@MrSalamander7 their brains cannot fathom that. Its just like when they ask you how can you know your gay if you haven't banged a woman? You flip the question back on them, their answer is, I just know or cause god made adam and eve.
@Renta1Cop Ignorance and intolerance? please do explain, because the same argument could be made about you and your gay community if it is the same argument I am recalling.
@assault82nd Sure I bet it can be said the same way about the gay community, if you believe in a fiction novel about some deity who will send you to purgatory for beating off. But what is there supporting gays? Oh right, the medical community, the psychological, sociological and neurological community. They must not read the fiction story you do. I think straight people in general are more "deviant" than most gay couples. If you plan to just sit here and question gays, your at the wrong rodeo.
@Renta1Cop Ahh well that would be where you're wrong. You cannot prove nor disprove God so therefore your claims for the Bible to be false are ill informed stick to the facts not opinions.
@assault82nd Amazing how your anti gay and religious, I would have never known! I may not be able to prove if a deity exist sure (could be Thor, Mohamed, or even Buddha) , but I know one thing, your book of lies as I call it, was written and changed and written by man and only man. Its a fiction story at best, there is NO factual information in it. Its a bunch of stories.
@assault82nd people like you are all the same "we are always right because we have a book written by man and changed a bunch of times, but those were translations". People like you cause an unreasonable amount of suicides of gay teens whom people like you dont accept. The blood is on your hands, I want you to know, if god does exist, he'll smack your egotistical ass down to hell.
@Renta1Cop Ah so you blatantly assume I am a murdere and cause actions performed by individuals for their own misery. I don't go and tell these idividuals that they are going to hell or bash them, but I do not support nor defend the lifestyle the live that is all and I disapprove of the unity under the name marriage for them. For you to speak for God seems very egotistical and arrogant of yourself.
@assault82nd no u sit there like a condescending person who is always right when it comes to religion being real. I love it how you twist it to make yourself look like your innocent. You dont defend normal people who are just like you, because they dont follow YOUR written by man book and seeing how you are right and everyone else who doesnt believe are wrong and not factual, thats condescending. Fact is, gay marriage is a law issue, and as many states have, all states will adopt it.
@Renta1Cop Ah well your perception of me is wrong, you can gain recognition as being factual with me with proper evidence I stated this before so I am not closed minded. I served beside gay people, and they were fellow comrades who I will help to this day. I will not insult gay people, but will say as I have said to them when asked that I do not agree with their lifestyle. As a man I will say everyone deserves liberty, but with morality civilization flourishes.
@assault82nd Yes, you did serve beside gay people who could not be themselves or get kicked out. Even though they can do as good a job as you, they cannot be themselves in this military, DADT is the reason. You dont agree with how they were born? Are you really ready to say that? Also yes, people are born gay, plenty of medical journals out there for that, I guess they didnt put that in the bible when it was changed. I am just as moral as you and I dont need a fiction book to prove it.
@Renta1Cop Quit calling it a fiction book unless you have proof. Next this is not about DADT they were theirselves off duty just like anyone else, but not on duty just like everyone else. No I believe the way I do because of my own conclusions of life without purpose there is no use in doing something. I find no purpose in gay marriage or gay life so there is my justification. Those medical journals do not prove valid because if they did then it would be noted as fact. It is a study not fact.
@assault82nd it is a fiction book, its a book of stories written by man with a deity involved. I dont need proof for that. I hardly think anyone could "be themselves" with the military when off duty. Obviously if someone who doesnt agree, finds their battle buddy porking a guy, they are going to tell or bring up evidence. If it never existed there would be no issue. People are straight or gay regardless of at work. You find no purpose in another normal human, thats condescending.
@Renta1Cop Well you weren't there I was and I know these people outside of the service so I believe I can speak with more assurity then you on the matter.
@assault82nd The thing is, noone should have to hide their sexuality to serve this country, it amazes me that military holds integrity so high, yet forces someone to lie about their sexuality in order to serve and protect the people of this country. I may not have been in the military, why? Because its disgraceful for our country to hold its self so highly and think that its standards are high, yet cannot accept normal people for normal people, in the military or otherwise.
@Renta1Cop Still you are going to continue, you are like a nagging wife; won't stop switching topics and choose to discuss or put a point of view there even if we were not talking about it.
@Renta1Cop You find people who believe in God as idiots that is condescending. Also furthermore scientific studies back up the falacious document as you refer to as the bible. It was written by deranged hebrews to cause suffering throughout the ages how laughable man do you see your mentality? You fail to produce evidence make an outrageous claim that the bible is fiction and do not support it with evidence but claim you need no evidence your opinion is fact. Don't make me laugh.
@assault82nd i never said my opinion is fact, but the bible is fiction. Tell me something, when you were young, if you were taught that jack and the bean stalk was real and that the bible was a simple story,do u think you would know the difference?Answer; no, your mind was set. I think you probably only read studies that prove your fiction book, never the ones that disprove it.Helps allow you to continue believing.I also noticed that the people who vouch for the bible, believe in it,coincidence?
@Renta1Cop The ones that try and disprove it are mainly based on opinions not facts. Look att the big bang theory, God said there was light, bang light was there holds true to Genesis Chapter one. Acttually you would be surprised at the intellect of a young kid they know exactly what they are doing at all times.
@assault82nd it was still written by man and changed multiple times, how hard would it be for me to grab a history book and write a religion to fit events? Not difficult at all. Even religions with things that can be proven to not be true, people still believe in, because as humans they are corruptable by the same "snake oil" that keeps coming back over and over.
@Renta1Cop Well the same could be said for you who only reads the articles and journalstrying to disprove the bible it helps you maintain disbelief. Do you see how your argument goes hand in hand, this debate will go on forever and to be honest your argument seems to only be against religion not for gays. So provide evidence to disprove God or stop talking about it.
@Renta1Cop Look place evidence that the bible is fiction and then it will be proven until then it is just speculationa nd an opinion but one day we will find out.
@assault82nd It kinda amazes me that you hold so true, beliefs in basically nothing in the air, you cant see it, but you know its there. I see nothing and therefor is nothing. Why do I dislike religion so much? Its used by corruptable humans to destroy and hate. There is nothing good that comes from it. Now knowing this, its amazing that god supposedly loves everyone except for gays (well thats the common opinion of this country). It also amazes me that some sins dont matter but gays do.
@Renta1Cop Dude look, God loves everyone but the attraction and act you do and feel is not supported by God. Therefore that means he loves the sinner but not the sin get it?
@Renta1Cop “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are CREATED equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain ‘unalienable’ Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” Our founding fathers believed in God and the Bible despite maority of free masons, so you are going to say that they will eb smacked to hell too?
@Renta1Cop Well lets not bend the coin man lets keep it straightened out. There is no purpose in the unity of two people of the same sex, so bear in mind if you can state a purpose in it then your brain cannot wrap around the concept of morality, and thus you think the conceptulization of morality on itself is mean spirited. What a twisted world we live in, where people can make things ok by disrupting and disavowing morality and the social norms.
@assault82nd then you have skewed moral standards and must be living in the stone age or by a fiction story with a deity fiction character. Why do you even bother trying to make gays seem different, fact is there are plenty of medical societies who see homosexuals as normal, but it must be a conspiracy to make everyone gay right? Also, if there is no "purpose" in gay couples having unity (ie making kids), why is it legal for sterile straight couples? Morality is not dictated by a fiction novel.
@Renta1Cop It is not a fiction novel until you can disprove god's existance, and the bible. Scientists also back up the bible in the beginning of the world theories starting with genesis. So this is quite on the contrary of your atheistic ideology. Prove God and the bible wrong before you make an outrageous claim. Homosexuals are different, and if you believe two men and two women in the altar looks normal then you need help.
@assault82nd its a fiction story, not a novel, it was written by man, man is corruptible. I can disprove your little fiction book upon the basis of it being written and changed by man (or as you call it multiple translations). You tell me I need help, you believe in something that is non existent. There is NO proof of existence, until there is dont bother bringing your snake oil to this shop.
@assault82nd you say my beliefs are not factual, yes they are opinions, but yours are as well, because guess what, religion is not fact, its upon the basis of faith in something that cannot be proven. Take your condescending self to Iran, you will be welcomed there.
@Renta1Cop Sir I ahve spent tours in Iraq and fghanistan and am a former Army Ranger. I just disproved your allogation that religion God is fake or isn't real. I also have the scientific and neurological community on my side too not all of them believe the way soem do. Noley Baker for instance.
@assault82nd Glad that you served, alot of my gay buddies served in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is not about you being a service member, its about your condescending attitude toward people who arent like you in your beliefs. You fought for this country, so in turn you defended every gay person here and their right to be happy. So I thank you for that. However there is no way that gay marriage will not be legal in the coming years for every state.
@Renta1Cop On another note I ahven't skewed anything I have stuck straight to the path I was on. But the only thing you have said here was religion is false and place no factual evidence to support the claim. That being said answer my questions with evidence state the purpose in the unity of two of the same sex don't ask another question to answer a question. Liberals all the same.
@assault82nd Im not going to sit here and try to disprove your little fiction book. However, there is separation of church and state with law, so therefor its a law issue, gay marriage would be legal under the law and have nothing to do with your church. Hence why you need a marriage license, you get tax benefits and such. If this were simply law and religion together, you would be required to get married in a church, no license and no tax benefits. Idiotic religious people are all the same.
@Renta1Cop Ah so since I believe in God anythign I say is irrelevant to you, I am open to your belief if there is plausible argument to back it up but you cannot offer the same deal.Separation of church and state keeps Government out of the church never says the values and morals you recieve from practicing cannot be used to form policy study your comstitution. Also check this out.
@assault82nd well I got the medical, sociological, psychological and neurological community on my side that know I am normal. A person who believes in god, is the same to me as believing in the easter bunny, or the tooth fairy. Why dont you pray to them? Is that too crazy to believe in those fake characters?
@Renta1Cop You see you obviously want to take this down the wrong path, you don't have a valid argument so you go on religion in your eyes, to bring it off track lets straighten the coin. Despite your view on religion, you obviously bash Christians and dissapointingly the Christians who do not bash you.
@assault82nd I am not going to straighten the coin of stupidity. Christians bash me every day, for not allowing me and my spouse to marry like everyone else. Christians bash me for not having the same rights to my partner and their children as straight couples do. Christians bash me for being born a homosexual and tell me that I am pretending, choosing or turned myself gay. I could go on. Christians as well as every religion in the US, with exception to Pagans, Buddhists and Hindus, Hate gays.
@Renta1Cop “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are CREATED equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain ‘unalienable’ Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” I believe our founding fathers believed in God too, and the christian values that being said gave birth to a free nation i which you can deny God without fear of retaliation.
If this guy came on Real Time with Bill Maher 10 years later, he would be booed loudly by the audience and probably not welcomed on most other shows unless it were to be lampooned.
I don't get how this is a logical argument: "well then anything can be defined as marriage, including a man marrying his daughter." ... How does gay marriage change the definition of incest?
--Marriage should be the legal relationship between two consenting, nonrelated adults.
You see, It's not that difficult to come up with a non-catastrophic definition that includes both sexual orientations.
So according to tom there, this whole thing is about people not wanting their definition of the word marriage to be changed from what they would like it to mean. That's basically the only argument you could legitimately have against gay marriage. Since its a retarded objection, he and everyone else who thinks that marrying whoever you love is wrong if its not in the style that they personally like, should shut up.
sorry, but if you're against gay marriage...YOU'RE DUMB..PERIOD...I have yet TO HEAR A LOGICAL ARGUMENT AGAINST IT..just a bunch homophobic idiots...SO MANY COUNTRIES ARE LEGALIZING...SOUTH AFRICA EVEN HAS GAY MARRIAGE...the USA IS TRAILING...
10 YEARS later and we still have this same "Discussion", it's sickening, we gone through racism and women suppression and yet we keep drowning our intelligence's evolution with intolerance. Incredible.
was this pre queer as folk anyway i think that the rights of a minority should'nt be left to a majority and its not like marriage has'nt changed hugely anyway it used to be basically just a buisness deal they're is absolutely no reason to not allow gay marriage
gay marriage isn't actually a right, which is why we get to vote on it. and i think the votes of the people shouldn't be overturned by a few judges in black robes, but that doesn't stop them.
we're not talking about the literal right to marry. gays can marry whomever they want. but if they want a handout for being married (which is what this issue is really about), they are subject to the vagaries of the rest of society, since we're the ones who would fund those benefits if they ever got them.
That's the most backwards sentence I have ever heard.
"They can marry whomever they want".
Well apparently they can't unless they live in a few certain states.
This issue is about the 1400 benefits and priveleges that come with heterosexual marriage, that are not provided in several states for couples who are homosexual.
And the issue is the fact that it was put on a ballot, that was not something the founding fathers intended.
It's backwards because you're ignorant to the law. The law applies to men and women, not gay and straight. There aren't 1400 benefits that they receive in any context, so I suggest you do some research, like say Wikipedia.
The founding fathers didn't intend for gay marriage to ever exist, obviously, so we do get to vote on it.
You really should talk about being ignorant to the law, because you just stepped in it there.
Read the essays of Thomas Jefferson, the founding fathers were strongly against the "rights of the minority being left to vote by a majority party". They felt that a mob mentality could be a danger to civil liberties. So please reference these papers before you mispeak. Now onto your next mistake, because you clearly the only research you do IS wikipedia and nothing else....
there's mob rule, and then there's a democratic vote that doesn't go the way you want it to. there isn't a consensus that gay marriage is a RIGHT in the first place. having a public vote and the majority's will being carried out isn't mob rule. in fact, to pass any type of law or policy there has to be a vote, in one way or another. the california supreme court had to VOTE to strike down Prop 22. So spare me your fascist bullshit.
The problem of an unpopular individual or minority being persecuted by a majority was well-understood to the Founders, who remembered precisely this kind of populist disapproval and persecution in England. "Tyranny of the majority.
Prop 8 violates the US Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment, as well as the intent of the original Founders, and furthermore violates California's Constitution. A vote for Prop. 8 is a vote against the Constitutional form of government and the rule of law.
just because there's a majority/minority complex doesn't make anything that tilts in the minority's favor unconstitutional. and like i said, there's no general understanding that it's a right in the first place. you're asserting that it is for a group of people who obviously would disagree.
prop 8 doesn't violate anything. it just codifies what everyone for all of human history has thought of marriage, that's its between man and woman.
Really? Not unconstitutional. Something tells me you're not reading section one of the 14th amendment, where is discusses how no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.
So funny thing that constitution...
and funny thing about "all" of human history thought of marriage. If you look back in history, it has often been "thought of" in many ways besides its current thinking.
Unlike any other state with the exception of Massachusetts and Connecticut, the court had ALREADY ruled gay marriage a fundamental right, and homosexuals a suspect minority.
California is the first state where an anti-gay-marriage amendment has passed AFTER that right, as well as discrimination against gays, has been determined to exist.
they held that sexual orientation is a suspect class AND that there's a fundamental right to gay marriage within the same ruling, and you can't do that.
also, you have the supreme court to thank for that. they overturned prop 22 in an election year, and because we have checks and balances in this country, that's what happened.
According to Lambda Legal Defense, 1,400 legal rights are conferred upon heterosexual married couples in the United States. By not being allowed to marry, gays and lesbians are denied these rights. Even in the state of Massachusetts, the only US state with legalized gay marriage, most of the benefits of marriage do not apply, because the Defense of Marriage Act states that the federal government only recognizes marriage as "a legal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife".
Lambda Legal is lying out their assholes. There are 1138 legal instances in federal government in which marital status plays a factor. If you weren't such a dumbass, you'd see the relative impossibility of having 1400 rights in ANY context.
no, they're "rights and responsibilities". you're just focusing on the "rights" part and nothing else. YOU'RE the one picking and choosing, not me. and it's still 1138 legal instances in which marriage plays a status and NOT 1400 "rights".
They are rights, privileges and benefits for the final time and I'm not picking and choosing, they are there in plain black and white. I didn't write the thing I just showed you LOL.
And second that yes there 1,138 federal rights that accompany civil marriage, AND then some additional 300-600 per individual state. That means your run-of-the-mill-marriage-license-carrying heterosexual couple have access to about (or over) 1,400 rights, benefits, and protections.
THAT was provided by the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. It is used by permission. The list appears to be based on a request by Representative Henry J Hyde, in 1996-SEP. He was chairperson of the House Committee on the Judiciary, and asked the General Accounting Office "to identify federal laws in which benefits, rights and privileges are contingent on marital status." Their response, which runs 75 pages, is available online.

"What is a gay marriage threat to?"
"Why not let me marry my dog?" is not an argument.

@Claronium780 It's a fabricated pseudo-semantic argument, don't worry about it. Marriage = the state of being married. Look up "marry" in any dictionary, it will merely tell you it means "to unite".

Considering that marriage has different meaning for every couple who decides to be married, how can you define it?
TheDalinkwent 1 year ago 2

"'s not only Christians. Most religions look down on homosexuals."
Point? IF you are asking what I think of those other religions...they all have the invisible beings with magical powers and seem just as silly and ridiculous to me.
IF you are mentioning other religions to "prove" there's something wrong with homosexuality... let's go back to the invisible beings with magical powers to see how rational they actually sound.
hipstermi 1 year ago
@hipstermi I wasn't saying that it isn't only Christians that say being gay is bad, it's other religions too. The point wasn't to use the other religions as a way to prove that it is wrong, it is that i felt you were generalizing the gay hate mostly on Christians when being gay in Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries is punishable by death.
iKingAntonio 1 year ago
@iKingAntonio
Ah ok I get it now.
I focued more on Christians because in the US they are the majority of religious folk. But yeah...I think the Jewish, Muslim, etc. doctrines against gays is just as shameful. Still...they are entitled to those beliefs about magical powered beings, just dont cite it as law I say.

Since their religion is not law of the land...who gives a shit? You can think this all you want that doesn't give your group right to base laws on it.
EX- it's a "sin" not to accept Jesus as Messiah. So what if there were laws against Jews, Muslims, Wiccans, etc?
Contrary to conservative opinion- this isn't Jesus Land.
hipstermi 10 months ago
@hipstermi As a liberal Christian, I agree completely that it should be legal and that people are being ridiculous and intolerant. I just wanted to point out that, I grew up in Denmark, and being gay isn't quite something people think of as "just another part of life". I mean, its a LOT better than how it sounds in the US, but a lot of people, mostly guys, are still uncomfortable with homosexuality and somewhat homophobic. There's still a ways to go to equality and tolerance everywhere.

well just because you're right, doesn't mean it'll happen. If you can make money off of it, don't fix it. That's the American way. assault82nd 1 year ago
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Ahh well that would be where you're wrong. You cannot prove nor disprove God so therefore your claims for the Bible to be false are ill informed stick to the facts not opinions.

assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd no u sit there like a condescending person who is always right when it comes to religion being real. I love it how you twist it to make yourself look like your innocent. You dont defend normal people who are just like you, because they dont follow YOUR written by man book and seeing how you are right and everyone else who doesnt believe are wrong and not factual, thats condescending. Fact is, gay marriage is a law issue, and as many states have, all states will adopt it.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Ah well your perception of me is wrong, you can gain recognition as being factual with me with proper evidence I stated this before so I am not closed minded. I served beside gay people, and they were fellow comrades who I will help to this day. I will not insult gay people, but will say as I have said to them when asked that I do not agree with their lifestyle. As a man I will say everyone deserves liberty, but with morality civilization flourishes.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd Yes, you did serve beside gay people who could not be themselves or get kicked out. Even though they can do as good a job as you, they cannot be themselves in this military, DADT is the reason. You dont agree with how they were born? Are you really ready to say that? Also yes, people are born gay, plenty of medical journals out there for that, I guess they didnt put that in the bible when it was changed. I am just as moral as you and I dont need a fiction book to prove it.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Quit calling it a fiction book unless you have proof. Next this is not about DADT they were theirselves off duty just like anyone else, but not on duty just like everyone else. No I believe the way I do because of my own conclusions of life without purpose there is no use in doing something. I find no purpose in gay marriage or gay life so there is my justification. Those medical journals do not prove valid because if they did then it would be noted as fact. It is a study not fact.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd it is a fiction book, its a book of stories written by man with a deity involved. I dont need proof for that. I hardly think anyone could "be themselves" with the military when off duty. Obviously if someone who doesnt agree, finds their battle buddy porking a guy, they are going to tell or bring up evidence. If it never existed there would be no issue. People are straight or gay regardless of at work. You find no purpose in another normal human, thats condescending.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Well you weren't there I was and I know these people outside of the service so I believe I can speak with more assurity then you on the matter.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd The thing is, noone should have to hide their sexuality to serve this country, it amazes me that military holds integrity so high, yet forces someone to lie about their sexuality in order to serve and protect the people of this country. I may not have been in the military, why? Because its disgraceful for our country to hold its self so highly and think that its standards are high, yet cannot accept normal people for normal people, in the military or otherwise.

assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd Furthermore, medical journals have a hell of alot more insight than a fiction book.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop You find people who believe in God as idiots that is condescending. Also furthermore scientific studies back up the falacious document as you refer to as the bible. It was written by deranged hebrews to cause suffering throughout the ages how laughable man do you see your mentality? You fail to produce evidence make an outrageous claim that the bible is fiction and do not support it with evidence but claim you need no evidence your opinion is fact. Don't make me laugh.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd i never said my opinion is fact, but the bible is fiction. Tell me something, when you were young, if you were taught that jack and the bean stalk was real and that the bible was a simple story,do u think you would know the difference?Answer; no, your mind was set. I think you probably only read studies that prove your fiction book, never the ones that disprove it.Helps allow you to continue believing.I also noticed that the people who vouch for the bible, believe in it,coincidence?
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop The ones that try and disprove it are mainly based on opinions not facts. Look att the big bang theory, God said there was light, bang light was there holds true to Genesis Chapter one. Acttually you would be surprised at the intellect of a young kid they know exactly what they are doing at all times.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd it was still written by man and changed multiple times, how hard would it be for me to grab a history book and write a religion to fit events? Not difficult at all. Even religions with things that can be proven to not be true, people still believe in, because as humans they are corruptable by the same "snake oil" that keeps coming back over and over.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Well the same could be said for you who only reads the articles and journalstrying to disprove the bible it helps you maintain disbelief. Do you see how your argument goes hand in hand, this debate will go on forever and to be honest your argument seems to only be against religion not for gays. So provide evidence to disprove God or stop talking about it.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Look place evidence that the bible is fiction and then it will be proven until then it is just speculationa nd an opinion but one day we will find out.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd It kinda amazes me that you hold so true, beliefs in basically nothing in the air, you cant see it, but you know its there. I see nothing and therefor is nothing. Why do I dislike religion so much? Its used by corruptable humans to destroy and hate. There is nothing good that comes from it. Now knowing this, its amazing that god supposedly loves everyone except for gays (well thats the common opinion of this country). It also amazes me that some sins dont matter but gays do.

assault82nd 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Well lets not bend the coin man lets keep it straightened out. There is no purpose in the unity of two people of the same sex, so bear in mind if you can state a purpose in it then your brain cannot wrap around the concept of morality, and thus you think the conceptulization of morality on itself is mean spirited. What a twisted world we live in, where people can make things ok by disrupting and disavowing morality and the social norms.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd then you have skewed moral standards and must be living in the stone age or by a fiction story with a deity fiction character. Why do you even bother trying to make gays seem different, fact is there are plenty of medical societies who see homosexuals as normal, but it must be a conspiracy to make everyone gay right? Also, if there is no "purpose" in gay couples having unity (ie making kids), why is it legal for sterile straight couples? Morality is not dictated by a fiction novel.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop It is not a fiction novel until you can disprove god's existance, and the bible. Scientists also back up the bible in the beginning of the world theories starting with genesis. So this is quite on the contrary of your atheistic ideology. Prove God and the bible wrong before you make an outrageous claim. Homosexuals are different, and if you believe two men and two women in the altar looks normal then you need help.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd its a fiction story, not a novel, it was written by man, man is corruptible. I can disprove your little fiction book upon the basis of it being written and changed by man (or as you call it multiple translations). You tell me I need help, you believe in something that is non existent. There is NO proof of existence, until there is dont bother bringing your snake oil to this shop.

assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd Glad that you served, alot of my gay buddies served in Iraq and Afghanistan. @Renta1Cop On another note I ahven't skewed anything I have stuck straight to the path I was on. Liberals all the same.
assault82nd 1 year ago
@assault82nd Im not going to sit here and try to disprove your little fiction book. However, there is separation of church and state with law, so therefor its a law issue, gay marriage would be legal under the law and have nothing to do with your church. Hence why you need a marriage license, you get tax benefits and such. If this were simply law and religion together, you would be required to get married in a church, no license and no tax benefits. Idiotic religious people are all the same.
Renta1Cop 1 year ago
@Renta1Cop Ah so since I believe in God anythign I say is irrelevant to you, I am open to your belief if there is plausible argument to back it up but you cannot offer the same deal.Separation of church and state keeps Government out of the church never says the values and morals you recieve from practicing cannot be used to form policy study your comstitution.

Truth and Tom Fitton do not belong in the same sentence... unless that sentence is an Oxymoron.

10 YEARS later and we still have this same "Discussion", it's sickening, we gone through racism and women suppression and yet we keep drowning our intelligence's evolution with intolerance. Incredible.

was this pre queer as folk anyway i think that the rights of a minority should'nt be left to a majority and its not like marriage has'nt changed hugely anyway it used to be basically just a buisness deal they're is absolutely no reason to not allow gay marriage
rosepetal34 3 years ago 4
gay marriage isn't actually a right, which is why we get to vote on it. and i think the votes of the people shouldn't be overturned by a few judges in black robes, but that doesn't stop them.
sblxi 3 years ago
Weren't all current civil rights from the first 10 amendments in the constitution up to today at one time subject to a vote?
aspitzer3 3 years ago
The benefits and liberties in general of minorities shouldn't be left to majority vote period. Read Thomas Jefferson's essays.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
we're not talking about the literal right to marry. gays can marry whomever they want. but if they want a handout for being married (which is what this issue is really about), they are subject to the vagaries of the rest of society, since we're the ones who would fund those benefits if they ever got them.
sblxi 3 years ago
That's the most backwards sentence I have ever heard.
"They can marry whomever they want".
Well apparently they can't unless they live in a few certain states.
This issue is about the 1400 benefits and priveleges that come with heterosexual marriage, that are not provided in several states for couples who are homosexual.
And the issue is the fact that it was put on a ballot, that was not something the founding fathers intended.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
It's backwards because you're ignorant to the law. The law applies to men and women, not gay and straight. There aren't 1400 benefits that they receive in any context, so I suggest you do some research, like say Wikipedia.
The founding fathers didn't intend for gay marriage to ever exist, obviously, so we do get to vote on it.
sblxi 3 years ago
You really should talk about being ignorant to the law, because you just stepped in it there.
Read the essays of Thomas Jefferson, the founding fathers were strongly against the "rights of the minority being left to vote by a majority party". They felt that a mob mentality could be a danger to civil liberties. So please reference these papers before you mispeak. Now onto your next mistake, because you clearly the only research you do IS wikipedia and nothing else....
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
there's mob rule, and then there's a democratic vote that doesn't go the way you want it to. there isn't a consensus that gay marriage is a RIGHT in the first place. having a public vote and the majority's will being carried out isn't mob rule. in fact, to pass any type of law or policy there has to be a vote, in one way or another. the california supreme court had to VOTE to strike down Prop 22. So spare me your fascist bullshit.
sblxi 3 years ago
The problem of an unpopular individual or minority being persecuted by a majority was well-understood to the Founders, who remembered precisely this kind of populist disapproval and persecution in England. "Tyranny of the majority.
Prop 8 violates the US Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment, as well as the intent of the original Founders, and furthermore violates California's Constitution. A vote for Prop. 8 is a vote against the Constitutional form of government and the rule of law.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
just because there's a majority/minority complex doesn't make anything that tilts in the minority's favor unconstitutional. and like i said, there's no general understanding that it's a right in the first place. you're asserting that it is for a group of people who obviously would disagree.
prop 8 doesn't violate anything. it just codifies what everyone for all of human history has thought of marriage, that's its between man and woman.
sblxi 3 years ago
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
Unlike any other state with the exception of Massachusetts and Connecticut, the court had ALREADY ruled gay marriage a fundamental right, and homosexuals a suspect minority.
California is the first state where an anti-gay-marriage amendment has passed AFTER that right, as well as discrimination against gays, has been determined to exist.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
they held that sexual orientation is a suspect class AND that there's a fundamental right to gay marriage within the same ruling, and you can't do that.
also, you have the supreme court to thank for that. they overturned prop 22 in an election year, and because we have checks and balances in this country, that's what happened.
sblxi 3 years ago
Why "can't" you do that? It pissed people off, but does it violate when they ruled that?
People went out and made it subject to a vote on a ballot, because they were pissed off, not because it was illegal.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
According to Lambda Legal Defense, 1,400 legal rights are conferred upon heterosexual married couples in the United States. By not being allowed to marry, gays and lesbians are denied these rights. Even in the state of Massachusetts, the only US state with legalized gay marriage, most of the benefits of marriage do not apply, because the Defense of Marriage Act states that the federal government only recognizes marriage as "a legal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife".
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
Lambda Legal is lying out their assholes. There are 1138 legal instances in federal government in which marital status plays a factor. If you weren't such a dumbass, you'd see the relative impossibility of having 1400 rights in ANY context.
sblxi 3 years ago
Ooooh he comes out swinging. Guess a nerve was struck....:-)
First off, they're benefits and privileges. And um, re-read...

It's nice how you like to pick and choose which parts of our law you wish to ignore and which ones you want to use.
Xenabuffyfan 3 years ago
no, they're "rights and responsibilities". you're just focusing on the "rights" part and nothing else. YOU'RE the one picking and choosing, not me. and it's still 1138 legal instances in which marriage plays a status and NOT 1400 "rights".
sblxi 3 years ago
They are rights, privileges and benefits for the final time and I'm not picking and choosing, they are there in plain black and white. I didn't write the thing I just showed you LOL.
And second that yes there 1,138 federal rights that accompany civil marriage, AND then some additional 300-600 per individual state. That means your run-of-the-mill-marriage-license-carrying heterosexual couple have access to about (or over) 1,400 rights, benefits, and protections.
Voila.

I'll space out the link as to avoid the rule...
