  • they're animals that"s all. i'd rather just kill em all so we can focus on the children, hell all humans, who are abused or destitute

  • Wth! This is disgusting. If I ever visit NY, I would NEVER, ever go on a horse carriage just to do some sightseeing around the place. The carriage drivers and the people who like to ride in them because they think it is "romantic", etc should be ashamed of themselves.

  • @MinaOhara , thank you for your compassion and not supporthing this cruelty.

  • guys, banning this will kill them

with no job to do theyll be shipped to japan or whereever hell awaits hem and be slaughtered.....

they need this job, and though its not the best environment for a horse to live its good enough for them to be fit and healthy!

id rather be a horse working here than awaiting in death row in mexico or japan or wherever they will go to die!!!

  • Why don't you do something really productive with your time? Like expose PETA, who wants all domestic animals done away with!! This may not be the ideal environment for a horse, but they all look healthy and well fed, no limping and no drooping heads. Get over yourself and expose something like hungry kids in the USA and let us know how to FIX it.

  • HA end cruelty? What a joke... by banning these horses from their job and purpose they will be homeless and ultimately SLAUGHTERED. Use your head IDIOTS. There aren't enough homes to go around as it is... at least they get fed and watered and their hooves maintained. I RESCUE horses and these horses are serving a purpose. Sure it's not the ideal life but they aren't dead. Maybe instead of complaining... BUY THEM and give them the home YOU feel they should have. Be part of the solution!

  • god that gave me a headache!! hold the camera still !!!!!!!!!!! or do not film !

  • new york shit

  • If you guys want to see what REAL horse abuse is, try going to this site: watch?v=VFMVGMdhHV8&feature=fvw - those are the horses that need your help! As a devoted horse lover, I'd rather see all horses pulling carriages in NYC, than to see what's done to them elsewhere! This isn't horse abuse, not by a long shot! Maybe not perfect or ideal, but certainly not abuse! Focus your energy on real horse abuse, not this.. please.. for the horse's sake, seek out the real abusers!

  • That is abuse and so is this. To say this isn't abuse because they are other forms of abuses that exist doesn't justify this cruelty in NYC. There is no excuse for any cruelty as this carriage industry in NYC and as the video that you posted.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with them pulling a carriage (and no I'm no absolute horse expert),

    BUT!

I don't think its right for them to have a pull one in such an enviorment as this... I think its okay for them to pull a carriage in a park or something, but...this is nuts. I don't want to go NY, now D:

  • after reading so many comments such * theres nothing wrong a horse pulling a carriage* yeah easy to say .. no one here is a horse. i bet the horse as a diferente opinion.

  • when you put yourself in the horses shoes (lol) they would rather not be doing this kind of thing. Its totally outta their natural enviroment and its quite sad really...

  • I don't get it, are we supposed to think this is somehow cruel? Ban the cars.

  • It is cruel and banning cars is not the solution. we need to progress and there is no excuse for this abuse. Tourists have other means to view the city, they don't need to have these horses bound to a carriage in traffic.

  • It is cruel to have horses double park and in heavy traffic hauling tourists. they don't have a natural life. Why must be force horses to live in inhumane conditions for the sole purposes of hauling tourists. Tourists have other means to view the city.

  • @horsesinnyc Equus has suffered greatly at the hands of man. We are totally unworth of their majesty. Its like keeping killer whales in tanks to "splash" the fat tourists. Disgusting.

  • and i know wat a horse looks like when working out in a street in melbroune the carrige horses look boread but happy biut not bouncing around like a jolly ball

they just look sad and put up with it im more concerned over the fact of traffic and well i dont think u would wont to be walkign in the middle of traffic nose in there exsauset pipe most of ur life then back in a well maintaned stall then out on the road again back to the stall boring routine ay?

  • i know that already but seriously! do u go out 24/7 to watch these horses

Have you seen where they keep those horses in NYC? and how do you know these horses have plenty of rest. Have you seen how tired and miserable they are on the hack line. Also those horses have no mandatory retirement and are discarded after years of miserable service <---- completly true!

  • So what if there's no "mandatory retirement"? Horses are individuals. Some need to retire sooner rather than later. Some are fit and happy and healthy after 20 years of work.

Can you prove that these horses are "discarded"? I know for a fact that at least one of the carriage company owners in NYC has a farm in upstate NY where their horses retire (and their working horses go for vacation).

  • okay look im not gonna fight over this beacuse really no need to we all c difrent things

yes some owner may have a porrperty but alot dont but alot fo epaple refer to discarded liek sold as meat i would perfer if they were givin away to retirment hoems but its the real world ani tgonna happen!

  • WE both know that there is NO mandatory retirement for these horses and WE both know that the carriage owners will never permit the law to be change to REQUIRE these horses to have MANDATORY RETIREMENT HOME So stop your lies.

  • yes this must be stop this is no place for horses they need to be in the country it breaks my heart to see them like this

  • These horses live in the city, same people, dogs, cats, etc., live in the city.

    Heck, horses BUILT the city.

Carriage horses are generally well-taken care of. Why rip them away from their homes and the people that love them, only to send them to the country where there's no guarantee anyone will look after them?

  • yes thanks and please educate them as well. Horses have no voice and need all of us to educate the public. You are so right people don't take a second to think about the cruelty. They get on the carriage without even looking at the horse. Tragic.

  • its one thing to work them thru the day but the night! dumb peaple

  • There is no restriction, they can work till 4 am and they can work throughout the city not only in the park

  • lol i know =]

its sad to amke them work at night its when the horses shopuld be dozing to sleep and at night peek hour ;/

  • Horses don't sleep like we do, they stay up all night eating.

  • No, they need to lie down as well. they sleep standing up but they do need to lie down for 15 minutes for REM

  • Yeah, but not at night. They stay up all night eating, and can sleep just as easily during the day.

  • Domesticated horses don't have a natural life full stop and there is nothing more cruel about NY carriages than any other form of horse use.. I ride my horse down a main road regularly, I have to to get to the other side. Banning horses is not a solution; providing them with rest stops and welfare monitors is good, but if you think less animals and more cars is the way to go I'm sad for you.
