ok, salomon, american english is very different from british english, especially when it comes to slang. As for spanish, i worked in bilingual customer service for 5 years, and the spanish between mexican, castellano, south american, carribbean, central american is also different, not all words hold the same meaning in all dialects of spanish.

im not sure its ignorance-when talking about something as integral as language, im off the belief that the country of origin is always right-ergo English should be spoken how the English speak it, French how the French speak it-of course it changes when spoken accross the world, but i really believe the spoken and written rules should be as they are spoken in the place or origin

Not really. Most languages have modernized further than English, to the point it is incomprehensible for both regions to fully understand their geographic of their original language's origin. There is French-Quebec, French from France. Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal. And so on..I do think it is ignorant to reckon all people should speak the written "rules" as you say in the place or origin because MOST of us speak our English today as it was Not spoken centuries ago...

For me both, american and brittish english are almost the same, i'm mexican, i learned it as american english, i have only had one brittish course, and it was the same for me :), the only difference i've obviously saw is the accent, but its like mexico, colombia or spain, we all speak spanish, and if you talk with a mexican, or a colombian its the same, there are some words you may not know, but, those are the differences that make the world interesting
