  • What can I say..... Fantastic... Please join our Inverness band...

  • Hi, Amazing version of this song. Would you be so kind as to share the tuning you are using. Thanks.

  • Great interpretation. Thanx, you're wonderful...what guitar is that you're playing?

  • Brilliant. Enchanting. I've always loved hearing Renbourn perform this lovely piece, and you have absolutely captured it. You're one of my new favorite players! You have great taste (you play all the songs I like!) and a wonderful touch, as well as good technique.Thank you very much.

  • @mca56rpa

    thank you too

  • Please oh please show us how to play this!

  • @MaxTheMasterful

  • Absolutely amazing. Completely flawless, beautiful guitar playing.

  • Gorgeous! Thank you. Sigh...

  • So gorgeous. Thank you. **sigh**

  • Wish i had your dedication! But you are inspiring me to not give up!

  • TroubleClef - Many people can have a mountain of technique, but to play with with taste is not so common. Everything you do brings out the BEST in the music.

Renbourn (you got it right here) Jansch, Bensusan, Gilberto etal are my heroes but you always knock me out! From "Estate" to "Felicidade" and all the bBeatles covers.

    First class! Thanks!

  • Beautifully done

  • brought a feeling about me . great playing

  • Gorgeous, well done.

  • This song is pretty repetitive I didn't even realise I finished learning the song. I like the hammer offs and hammer ons you do. I borrowed them until I can do it in my own style hehehe. You play this song beautifully.

  • What a beautiful version of The Mist-Covered Mountains of Home. Well done!

  • thank you

  • Hello, i'm from Portugal and I would really like to learn this music, so, can you please send me the tabs or indicate the site where this tabs are, please? Thank you.

  • @PaulRamos1993

I'm also looking for the tabs of this music. If you find it, tell me :)

    (I'm Portuguese as well btw)

  • Tudo bem?

Olha, já encontrei as tabs para esta música. Faz o seguinte: escreve aqui no youtube "The Mist Covered Mountains of Home&the orphean" e pede as tabs ao senhor que fez o vídeo, chamado Patrice Goyaud. Ele pede-te o mail e manda-te as tabs.

    Felicidades.

  • Obrigado pela tua ajuda:)

    Abraço.

  • @PaulRamos1993 I'd have to guess this man is one of the rarer 'true' musicians and made it up. Such things don't usually come with tabs, try to learn something from him in the video he's given us :)

  • @aaronvan15 well i guess that was pretty dumb of me to say, because he even states the artist's name :P sorry. I'd delete if I could.

  • TABS PLEASE!!

  • @EfeGuitar

  • yes, it's very popular and there's lots of great versions. keep on exploring.

  • Played with verve and some passion , superb!

  • absolutly stunning. I've just tuned my guitar like this, and this is great insparation

  • thanks. also check out my take on Renbourn's "the moon shines bright". same tuning. cheers.

  • Simply beautiful words can not begin describle how remarkable that was!

  • Great rendition![by the by,have you heard it by Tony Hall?]

  • I'm back again for another listen. Man, I close my eyes and listen to you play this tune and it still sends a chill up my spine. Beautiful.

  • thanks a lot

  • This song is fantastic, and u did an awesome job!

  • Now that's what I'm talking about! My pipe band plays this tune and you certainly do it justice.

I'm new to this genre or guitar playing, as I play Jazz, Blues and Funk.

Can you please tell me some guitarists to listen

    to? thanks.

  • thanks. well this particular arrangement is by John Renbourn. You can't start anyplace better than with him and the album "the black balloon" that this comes from.

  • You play this song beautifully, just the way John does. Congratulations.

  • magnificent troubleclef!!i like it man.god pless ur fingers.lool. and you too

  • thanks

  • You do this so beautifully. I wonder if you know a fiddle player who could lay down a sweet drone beneath it? It's perfect as is, but a low fiddle, or a cello perhaps, to add the bass would be wonderful. I came to this tune late, having only discovered it in 1983 when Mark Knopfler arranged a piece of it for the movie soundtrack of "Local Hero." Lovely. But yours is much truer sounding. Beautiful.

  • thanks. John Renbourn's version has a nice celtic flute take one or two chorus. I love the sound of his recording. the whole album "black balloon" just has that really haunting sound to it.

  • you are great...I really wish you would post other pieces by John Renbourn! Compliments anyway!!!

  • there are a couple others. See "the moon shines bright" and "Two by Nicolas Vallet" (JR arrangements)

    thanks!

  • It's times like this tha tI want to learn guitar.....I'm translating this song into Tibetan for my next album though, as weird as that sounds.

  • Thanks. Sounds like a great idea actually.

  • Sounds perfect.. this is what I strive to sound like some day.

  • Beautiful song and really well played!

  • Great performance for the player and beautiful sound for the guitar! Regards,

    luca

  • This reminds me of Scarborough Fair for some reason. Very nice.

  • Beautifull.

  • Why the hell can't I have a neighbour like you?

If you fancy doing something for an animated series, look me up ;)

  • Simply awesome. You sir, are an inspiration. :)

  • That was freaking awesome and those harmonics played superbly.Thank You Sir.

  • Beautiful. Is that minor tuning? If so what key. Thanks

  • thanks. it's open g-minor. see video details for more.

  • it is a steel string guitar (martin 000-17s). the slot head might have thrown you off. it doesn't have electronics. thanks so much.

  • As precise as ever; can't remember the Renbourne album but you do this great justice.

  • Mr troubleclef, this is brilliant; I am sure I have heard Renbourne do this, but can't remember which album. Still waiting to hear you do Bird Song, by Bert.

  • Lovely.

  • Awesome! Im working on this song now and must say its quite challenging. The open a minor tuning is pretty fun for messing around with ive found

  • Beautiful!

  • All compliments are wasted on you, you are high above them! But it seems to me that John Renbourn plays the song a little slower, or maybe I'm mistaken...Again, you are great!

  • You're one of my favorite guitarists on Youtube. Have you heard Exiles by King Crimson?

    *hint hint* :)

  • thanks. i was going to say i knew that song, but now i'm not so sure. i thought it was on "Islands", but no. It appears to be on the live "USA" album, which i don't have.

  • The studio version is on Lark's Tongues in Aspic. If you don't have it, I can send it your way. Just shoot me a message.

  • ah! i DO have that album. thanks. i spaced it. i'll check it out again.

  • That is lovely! I play this song on the hammered dulcimer. The two instruments would compliment each other so well.

  • Lovely tune,sweetly played.Check out Tony Hall's version.

  • This is my favorite song off of my favorite Renbourn album!

You have wonderful taste in music :)

  • Thanks. Couple of things. Where'd you get the sheet music or was it by ear? I'm looking to add this to my repetoire. Did you plan to do the rest of the medley off the album?

  • thanks. i got it from a tabledit site but i believe JR published a book that has it (it just isn't in the one that i have). I've worked on "the orphan" to follow this but never had it quite down.

  • very very beautiful; 5 stars from germany; thanks for uploading

  • John Renbourn is one of my favorite acoustic guitarists :) thanks for doing some of his wonderful stuff.

  • hi troubleclef! jus wanna know what strings do you have on your martin?

  • daddario custom lights with .011 on top

  • You play very this beautifull irish tune (arranged by Renbourn?).I play it also.

John Renbourn is my favorite folk guitarist

Your folk guitar sounds great, what is it.the french guitar that I use in my fingerstylevideos lookslike your (It is ahandmzde french guitar by Maurice Dupont, like an old OOO Martin vintage prewar.

Thank you for your marvellous music

  • thank you. It's a Martin 000-17s. (see vid details). Yes i got it from one of the Renbourn books. he puts a capo on 2 or something, but i just play it open. I like the guitar you have. it sounds very nice too.

  • I like very ;uch ;qrtin guitqrsm I use a D28 to accumpanymy songs in flatpicking style.

Is your martin an old guitar?

the nylon Taylor that you have sounds very wellalso.

    Friendly

    Patrice

  • thanks. it's not terribly old but i think they stopped making them. they should still be available online somewhere. mine's probably 3 or 4 years old

  • I know this beautifull irish tune arranged by John Renbourn,my prefered folk guitarist.

You play it very well.I enjoy your guitar playing.

What guitar have you,it sound great,I have a similar french folk guitar handmade by Maurice Dupont. I use it for my fingerstyle videos.

Bravo, et merci for all your beautiful tunes in your videos.

    Patrice

  • I thought you did a fantastic job on this. In fact, you inspired me and I bought the John Renbourn DVD and am working on learning this song! Thanks for all the other great music as well. I love the Genesis / Brazilian music...

  • good playing really,

but some unfortunate 'beauty' mistakes, for instance, second 50.

    keep on playing!

  • well, nothing's perfect. hell, that's hardly noticeable compared to some of the stuff i let pass and post. If i waited to record and post only perfect things, i wouldn't have 100 videos posted, i'd have zero.

  • yeah that's true, i never ment to say its not well.

it really good and its hard to find someone that plays with such care. maybe my concern is more the feel in the song, of course its your version so i take back what i said earlyer. i m just a perfectionist :)

    never stop playing!

  • This open tuning is vraiment adapté à ce style of music (I make a progress in englich now )Bravo!

I love aussi DADGAD music.Connais tu Soig Sibéril (de

    Bretagne)qui joue many in DADGAD?

  • thanks. no, i don't know that guitarist. i'll check him/her out.

  • Is it an Irish song? anyway is like you can hear in Dublin´s taberns...I liked

  • John Renbourn (the arranger) says it's Scottish. Thanks!

  • Mad props! That was great!

  • i played this on my ESP LTD SC-500 and it actually sounded pretty darn good. i'll post a response when i get a chance.

  • excellent. looking forward to it

  • Just curious as to your choice of strings. Thanks.

  • hi. daddario custom lights. sometimes put a .012 on high e (i think the customs are .011)

  • This is amazing..

  • Amazing I just found you Haven't stop watching for 2 days Thank You

  • thanks!

  • is there any particular website you get tabs from?

  • Oh wow man...

One of my favorites right there!

It has this wonderful "home sweet home" feeling that I love. Sorry for the late comment, somehow I missed this video of yours, and quite honestly, it would suck if I really didn't see it.

    Anyway, Merry Christmas man.

    Deus te abençoe!

  • thanks, man! i agree about the homey quality.

  • Very NICE!!!

  • Nice

  • i love it

  • thx. i figured out its The Mist-Covered Mountains of Home by John Renbourn ... am i stupid or what...

  • it's not really *by* JR, but he arranged it. I don't think anyone knows who wrote it. thanks for watching.

  • wonderful piece... i watched it three times in a row... who composed it? whats it called?

  • Beautiful!

  • Woa..very nice. This is a very harmonic tune..thanks for posting. Hope there's more like this!

  • thanks. i'll see about learning more renbourn. cheers.

  • Rosslyn would be a nice one.

  • This is so beautiful! I'm going to have to look up more of Renbourn's arrangements. I wonder what "Mountain Thyme," "Killcrankie," or "News for Mordroit" would sound like arranged for the guitar...

  • he is a brilliant guy. and a very nice chap too. had a chance to talk to him a bit after one of his shows here. very decent fellow.

  • and si are you a very decent fellow squire.

  • love it

  • Keep up the good work!! I highly enjoy all your videos.

  • Yeah, of all the amazing stuff you do - this is one of your best, I think. You should collect all of these worshipful comments that people leave you and send them to a record company with a DVD of your vids. Or press up a bunch of stuff yourself and sell it on ebay or cafepress. We've all said we'd buy it!

  • thanks!

  • I think you're emphasizing a certain riff in there that Renbourn does not. --and as much as I love flutes, I don't think they did justice in accompaniment to Renbourn's try.

  • I would gladly pay to see you perform live. How on earth have you mastered so many pieces? Do you practice all day long, everyday? Or is it just as easy for you as you make it look? BTW, I really love Celtic music, especially Celtic guitar music. Thanks so much for this one.
