  • Edwards is lucky he didn't get hypothermia

  • @nutcake9 Mary, the oldest. She becomes blind later in the show.

  • Not all Indians r Mean. Even back then. Geezs People.

  • I wish i could take all the stuff i have now like my blankets glass cups, plastic cups, stuffed animals, light bulb, cereal, bowls, and other foods then i went back to the past and sold everything and showed everyone the things i had they would think im from the furture haha ohhh im stupid :D

  • The book is completely different...

  • What channel do they plays this show?

  • hehe i always though i have a low IQ but not even i would go down in a river when is winter outside

  • @Kimnilsson92 Yes but it was another era, people had no cars,no automobiles,no bikes and they only walked.Mr edwards was very brave and he used to live in the forest, all alone.People at that time weren't the same that nowaday people. They had different way of living and habits. No possible comparison with today life.

  • @fisteberg well i kind of doubt a car, bike or automobile would do any use in neither that weather or in a forest and well its not that hard walking in snowy weather.

Well sure i would survive going down in a river during the winter but i would probobly look for an other way over and to me thats not brave its just folish walking down in a river and risk cold injuris

  • I love this series so much! I still watch the reruns on Sundays. Such whilesome, life-affirming stories.

  • "It's not fair;they were here first";you go Laura!

  • Melissa Gilbert is so little and cute here! She really is the perfect Laura. They sure did a great casting job with this show!

  • .

they shared everything with love, the's it LOVE!

    so much love!

    .

  • how does Mrs Ingalls just guess what the indian is saying all the time.?

  • thanks for uploading this pilot movie!very great.I love it in english too.And carrie is so funny when she says"santa".Mr edwards is a wonderful man,a man of heart like charles.

  • @fisteberg LOL fkin hell poor Mr Edwards 3:20-351

  • That guy isn't an indian, he's got beard, and indians don't grow nor armpit nor pubic nor facial hair!

  • Comment removed

  • @ThePrincessBrenda yer FULLY! of course they'd grow a little. a beard isn't believable but that doesn't mean they didn't go through puberty. every1 gets a little hair everywhere.

  • first time I watch it in english.... and that's great, discovering that Indian guy was really speaking french --- often we miss nuances, when we don't watch with original recording!

  • Mr. Edwards is an amazing person!

  • What a true joy to see this wonderful show again. Many thanks for uploading it.

  • juberoos, the French speaking Indians were Nez Perce.

  • he speaks french with a strange accent.

He said: vous avez bien construit: you built well your house; 2. soldier "Duchêne".

3.merci : thank you : 4. Amulette:amuette. 5 que cette amulette vous apporte bonne fortune: I wish, this amulette bring to you good luck.

  • he looks marrocan to me! marrocans looke like him and learn to speak french

  • he look a little like a marrocan, but he'snt because he don't speak with an arabic accent and his name is "Duchêne" maybe is a Uron from Quebeck or from New Orlean.

  • What wonderful comments thinking about when these episodes first came out. I agree so much better than a lot of the stuff that is on TV/movies today.

  • I wonder if Mr. Edwards felt a little uncomfortable sitting there in his underwear.

  • When I'm feeling down, I watch this and just live in the whole moment. There's something about a scene that stays with you and can give comfort or laughter. That's the blessing bestowed by strong writers, directors, actors and crew to sort of toss you in out of the crap of day to day and into another world. God bless the strong ones.

  • 3:13 3:12 Carrie is really cute.

  • Mr. Edwards is such a nice person I see why Laura likes having him around.

  • lol@ french speaking indians

  • Oh I don't know about that. I'm sure if all this kids nowa days grew up with home made presents they would like them just the same. Its just what you grew up around. I personally would love somthing home made it shows alot more love and care ^^

  • LOL 3:12. wow, Mary is a beautiful child.

  • Mary was a beautiful child and grew up to become a beautiful woman, Melissa Sue Anderson was voted "Most Beautiful Woman on T.V" by T.V Guide in 1978. I enjoyed watching her character Mary, however after she lost her sight on the show, her character endured a great deal of grief and hardship. She lost her baby in a fire, had a miscarriage before that, her husband gets his sight back, then her role was put in the back burner and overshadowed by the "fictional" Albert character which was unfair.

  • her role was curtailed because she wanted out. she left the show in 82.

  • You're right, i thought i had read somewhere that Landon had limited her role, however i just recently found out that Melissa Sue Anderson wanted to be released because she did'nt feel there was any need for her character to remain on the show. Thanks for the info, i wish she had not felt that way but i guess it was inevitable that she leave, with all the hardship her character had faced on the show i only wish she had more happy times before she left.

  • would today's kids accept home-made presents? I doubt it. it's gotta be from the mall or latest "it" thing on t.v. less materialistic but more genuine love back then.

  • What did Mr. Edwards give Caroline?

  • Sweet potatoes...

  • ohhhhhhhh goooddddddddd

I thought thatit was either that or ginger root.. :P

  • It's wonderful how first impressions can change. Caroline learned to care alot for Mr. Edwards after the first Christmas, she realized what a kind man he really was. : )

  • mr edward very nice ..he tried to visit laura's family in the big winter..i cried when i saw him failed in stream ..love him ,,love all the actors and actress in that film ,,the best movie ever

  • "Santa!" :)

  • ok in this episode, the doll figurine is on the fireplace mantel, this mantel has an inscription on it ? Any idea what it says ?

I know the Walnut Grove house had the same figurine and mantel ? SO ENJOYED THIS SHOW.

  • The inscription is CL + CL, indicating Charles Ingalls and Caroline Ingalls.

  • Whoops I CI CI, I don't why I Changed to CL, I was thinking of something else, but Yes, it is Charles and Carolines initials.

  • Opps, I forgot this is the pilot episode, the Inscription I'm refering to is the one in the their house in Walnut Grove, I don't know what this inscrition says.

  • haha Santa!!! :D

  • I have every season of little house on the prairie exept 5

  • Simpler times. Kids were more appreciative about what they got back then, more needs than wants. Families really stuck together through hard times back then, each doing their share of work to survive. It was deserving for kids to get gifts from their parents and vice versa. Nowadays the majority of kids don't have to do anything but they still expect the newest video game system on Christmas morning.

  • I agree with you 100%. I feel that gifts should come from the heart and soul, and not from the wallet or pocketbook.

  • My son and I laugh so hard when we see this !!

    A cup.

    A peppermint stick

    A shiny NEW penny.

A cookie sprinkled with white sugar.

    A pair of mittens.

A couple of potatoes for the mother.

"It was the best Christmas ever" !

  • While Laura says "Not me, and bites hers immediately. It shows the differences between the two girls.

    3. I love the looks on the Ingalls' faces when a almost frozen solid Edwards comes through their door.

  • I love this show, it is wonderful. It signifies what society needs more of today. It is great from a family stand point, meaning it can be watched by everyone. It is also good from a historical stand point. I love three things about this part of the pilot. 1. Mr Edwards is a good hearted, kind, crazy old bastard for tramping through that blizzaed, and falling in the lake just to give Mary, Laura and Carrie a good Christmas.

    2. I love how Mary says "I'm going to save my stick of candy

  • lol

    stana!-carrie

  • lol@mr. edwards!! if I would have fell in that freezing water my balls would have shrank to the size of peppercorns!

  • What a great show LHOTP was. I was 9 years old when the show came on TV (and I had already read the books).

Yes, it does show the true American spirit. America's history is like every other countries' history - some good, some bad. All of our actions have not been heroic or good but we're definitely not the Satan that some people on here want to portray.

LHOTP epitomises the American values and I am so glad that I grew up with TV shows like this and The Waltons.

  • Everytime I watch it, I do NOT understand why Mr. Edwards has to be out there in his long johns...

  • Everytime I watch it, I do NOT understand why Mr. Edwards has to be out there in his long johns...

    ============================

Because he is a character ROFL

  • Maybe he wants to keep his clothes dry for when he gets to the cabin. Unfortunately though he falls in the river.

  • PART2:and i only bring up slavery and indians being pushed from their homes because you keep saying the samething over and over agian as if you are trying to leave a hidden message or something.

  • PART1:And americanpower WHYYY DO YOU KEEP SAYING THAT WHAT ARE YOU DOING COPY AND PASTEING THAT ON EVREY COMMENT BOARD FOR LITTLE HOUSE? you know there is a fucked up part of american history try the slave trade and native americans being pushed from the homes that the english stole from them indians being killed blacks being killed but you fell to mention that why? are you in agreement with it or what?

  • this show is suppose to be takin place in canada? i ask that because the native was speaking in french, i didnt know it was taking place in canada

  • no the show is supposed to have taken place in missouri. it says that in later episodes

  • Actually the pilot took place in Kansas.

You can see Karen Grassle talking about it on the Video post From the 2007 Reunion. Also in the last Christmas epi. They flash back to the Pilot, and Ma says "Life was hard in Kansas, but good"

  • my mom grew up watchin this and i watched it and i still do great show. i so love mr ingalls i always wished i had a dad like that

  • THE ABSOULUTE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!(and it was made before i was born)

  • Just goes to show you how simple times were back in the 1880's. Try giving someone a cup and a penny today, theyll skin you alive probably!

anyway, great pilot, thanks for posting :)

  • I wouldn't say time were simple. Times are simple now. The tin cups cost as much then, as a 100 tin cups would cost today. Times were very difficult back then and in reality most families broke up back then because of the stress of not knowing if you were going to eat, and if you were going to survive winter. Anyway, given a choice, I would not choose living in the 1800's.

  • "Times are simple now", ok, lol.

  • how many children do you know that would be satisfied with a tin cup, a penny and a stick of candy for christmas?

    nothing is simpler now

  • I wouldn't have minded those gifts nowadays. :-) Besides, presents don't matter at Christmas. I'm just glad to be inside a house with good people at that time of the year.

  • yeah true..coz today some kids, gotta have the newest games, computer, movies, thats not cheap,if they dont get it then watch out,im glad i grew up with all that buut i didnt get any,my fam was happy for so little,no money at all, took years before they could get me a tv,im 26 livin, sweden girl,me and my sis,bro never complain.still happy, they couldnt spoil us

  • @cadauctions31 i lyk her 2. idt her voice is annoying i don't mind it. itz not at all squeaky, ok maybz a little but she's like 8.

and she doesn't have buck teeth just perfect teeth.

  • @111WLee Dude nobody cares we just want to watch the show okay?

  • @imyourfuturewife lolz nice one

  • sweet potatoe! pie!

  • If I had to pick one show to send around the world that would explain and exemplify the American spirit, it would be Little House.

The sense of adventure, righteousness, and optimism in this show is so great, and Michael Landon is one of the greatest Ambassadors I could imagine. What a show, and boy does it make me proud of my American heritage.

  • I totally agree with your comment, V8AmericanPower!

  • why is the indian speaking french

  • Because, as my French Canadian Heritage Family Has said for years, The French Married and integrated the American Indian The English and Americans Just Killed Them. His Tribe probably Traded Furs with French Fur Trappers for Decades Before the Ingalls Showed up.

  • Were those sweet potatoes that Mr. Edwards gave to Caroline?

  • Doesn't it just warm your heart when you see the people you like and love happy? And most of it happens on Christmas! You've gotta love a joy like theirs!

  • why isnt there any video repsones?

  • I never understood why Mr. Edwards went out in a blizzard in his underwear. I didn't seem to see any real explanation for that when I rented the pilot -- did I miss something?

  • thanx so much for posting. I love this show. Makes me feel so good. I wish life were this easy. I could nt imagine what my kids would say if they got a cookie and mitts and a cup for x mas!:)

  • doesn't this show just do your heart good?

  • what a classic i have my 10 year old son watching lhotp.wish they still made shows like this and what can anyone say about michael landon what a great guy rip

  • Oh my gosh! luv this show, its inculcate good moral values and kindness to oneself, I've grown to cater such morals and its benefit me to pass it on to my families.I've been watching this show when I was a little kid and I was in fifties now. Thanks for posting

  • caroline's hott

  • Thanks. Excellent pilot. Marvellous serie

  • We sure don't have holidays like that anymore.

  • Why did Edwards go out in that weather in his underwear? Why wasn't he wearing pants and s shirt and a coat???

  • probably because it is easier to move around in the water when you aren't wearing clothes. ever got in a pool or lake with clothes on? REALLLLY hard to move

  • it is hard to move!

  • mr edwards always did things backwards.. but he was a loveable guy that you couldn't help but love..

  • BEST SHOW EVER!!!!

  • yes!

  • thank you for posting. I've LOVED this SHOW since I was little

  • Oh my gosh! In the background you can see Ma's china figurine on the mantlepiece that she brought all the way from Wisconsin--I totally remember that from the books!! (Which I read when I was about 9!) That's so cool that they put that in! :)

  • please put the last one episode if you have it.thanks for the others.
