I have a friend who had vocal nodules, she said she could sing for a while but her voice would easily get tired and her throat would swell up, and she would have to rest her voice even more to give it the effect it needed. Mariah needs alot of rest when it comes to her voice, so if she has a rough day its not that she lost her voice it that her voice is not rested and fragile due to vocal nodules, When she records in the studio her voice is well rested.

yes faith has been losing her voice for the past 5 years. you can get them removed but its EXTREMELY delicate, and not worth the risk. they are tiny and if the surgeon's instrument touches the vocal folds at all it will ruin the voice forever. it happened to julie andrews, and now she has no head voice at all, she can only speak/sing. since that happened, nobody has tried it.

it happens when you strain your voice throughout your career. If you listen to MC when she first started at some point in her songs she was no longer singing, but intead whistle higher and higher, that puts a tremendous strain on your vocals, however she can still hit the high notes that she use too. As a matter of fact she recently hit the G7 not which is extremely rare. Mariah by far has the most versatile voice of all female singers, as she can go so low, and so high. Very hard to do

they are little bumps on your vocals folds that lets air pass through all the time, they are the reason Mariahs always had that airy sound

and they deteriorate your voice over time

surgery on them is very risky b/c if you touch the vocal folds even once you can lose your voice, like Julie Andrews

It's not all about weight in Mariah's case; it's about the stamina of the chords themselves. When she gets rest she sings with ease (AI Gives Back) but when her chords are tired she struggles (GMA). All the promo she has been doing has her chords strained. However, she has not performed in a couple weeks so next time she hits the stage, she sould be able to knock it out of the park.

Check the symptoms of vocal nodules, she has all of them, hoarseness, vocal breaks, reduce range, darker tone, all of the above. I guarantee you they've had an effect on her voice!
