ok, just comparing your offering to CA next TW, probably Rome 2, where you'll be able to zoom in close to the battle to see high quality meshes in action. obviously HR will be the poorer cousin? that's ok as long as the game play "feels" like the player is a roman consul etc.

some other factors to make your game a success and remove the kiddy factor;
(1) get rid of god-camera, looking down on battles is totally unrealisitc - CIV is for kiddies. The camera should go no higher than a RPG game, slightly above and behind a character / unit.
(2) Once again realistic terrains, all proportional. The fort on that ledge didn't look that realistic.
(3) Having realistic soldier annimations.is very important. walking, runningetc should all look natural.
@backreefoil Well, here I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you. Hegemony is definitely a strategy game, and not an RPG. Being able to plan your grand strategy is very important.
@backreefoil wargame doesn't mean simulation of a real battle, and CIV is not for kiddies. A good strategy game is something between a war simulation and chess.
sweet! plan to re-buy gold from your site soon(my steam acc was suspended, i had alredy gotten philip of macedon...grrrr) .Is there going to be a "gold edition of this game too?
@Darthkeyblader13 People were somewhat confused by the Gold edition of Hegemony, so if we do expansions for Rome, we'll probably go the more traditional route. It's still too early to know our exact plans, though.
... and it must have proper battle formations - manipular legions, cohort legions, phalanxs etc etc ... please make it as realistic as possible, no kiddy game please!
@backreefoil Making the gameplay realistic has always been a priority of ours. One of the best examples of this is the supply system in the original game: starving cities was a very common tactic historically, so we wanted to make that a viable tactic in Hegemony. It's a really important part of warfare that most games have left out completely. This attention to detail will continue in Hegemony Rome.
I hope your strategic maps are alot bigger , detailed and life like than your last effort, nothing worse than kiddy-grafix on unproportional landscape!! good promo video anyway
@backreefoil I think you'll be happy. You'll notice in this teaser that the terrain is about 10x more detailed, and the vegetation is much more realistic, since we're using Speed Tree now. Also, if you pay close attention to the city shot, you'll notice little guys standing in the watch towers -- they're much closer to real scale in Hegemony Rome.
I would've wished for the rise of the Franconian Empire, which would be well-suited for this kind of game, too. But I'm glad that the first Hegemony was successful enough for a sequel at all. There are still a lot of strategy gamers out there who have never heard of Hegemony; Longbow Games need to make better promo. :)

@mike44wo Caesar had a ton of different titles but although he never officially had the capital 'E' title Emperor, as dictator of the Roman Empire he was in practice an emperor
Seumas would be proud at how far this company went.

You know Caesar was not an Emperor, right?
EmperorsChildren 4 months ago
@EmperorsChildren By the time Caesar returned to Rome for good, he was effectively and emperor in all but title.

Wait, THAT'S the distance between Mediolanum and Verona? Jesus, the map will be huge!
I approve.
