Honestly i think this game was originally made to appease all the Japanese players who hate yoshi so much. Who gives a shit about making a real game when you can just shoot yoshi in the back of the head til you kill yourself? That's why you don't need the extra lives but still get them. Kill yoshi more before you have to see the continue/title screen :P
Dude, it's been weeks between the recordings I did. I'm not going to be able to remember everything I was supposed to do from the start. Also, the levels get a bit harder and I need the health for the most part.

I think Yoshi giving you that look at the end of a level is just a way of him saying,
"The level's over, so you can't shoot, meaning you can't shoot me in the back of the head! Ha!"
