What I especially like about this performance is how the string players don't feel the need to play "100% legato 100% of the time" like so many players do in music of the romantic period. Instead, there are lots of places where they let the phrases come apart into smaller, articulated gestures, and trust that it will still hold together (which it does). It makes it lighter and more uplifting without seeming insubstantial ... instead, it seems more mysterious, more magical.
Gorgeous music-making...have never heard this mvt played with such breadth and freedom.
could that be Leila Josefowicz turning pages for Argerich. Whoever, she is, she got so caught up in the music that she started to make her first turn much too soon (Argerich shakes her head).
That's one of the pitfalls of turning....you really can't allow yourself to be moved by the music making...I know from experience!
How can it be that a human being could write something so beautiful? This is absolutely gorgeous. I like how they shape their phrases. I suspect it would sound a little better if were a tad faster.
Thanks for uploading to YT. Its a fine performance of Opus 60. I'll read bios about these performers and look for their recordings elsewhere on youtube.
Gives me chills every time. Maisky's solo is spectacular.

Bel video!!
