I remember when Mosley was the best fighter at one point. He was my favorite fighter, too. I think this version of Shane Mosley would have destroyed Mayweather AND Pacquiao. I hate to say it, but It's sad to see how he's fighting now. He needs to retire.
@Deejeezy405 I AGREE 100%,, MAYWEATHER SAYS HE WANTED TO FIGHT HIM BACK WHEN HE WAS A LIGHTWEIGHT BUT HE WOULDA GOT DESTROYED I HATE TO SAY,, I THINK MOSLEY MOVING UP IN WEIGHT IS THE REASON WHY FLOYD IS UNDEFEATED TO THIS DAY....AND PACQUIAO EVEN WHEN SHANE WAS 37 DIDN'T WANT NONE....BUT YEAH THE WAY HE'S FIGHTING NOW HE NEEDS TO RETIRE I HEAR HE MIGHT BE COMING BACK NEXT YEAR
@BIGGIEBOY26 .....never that. Floyd would have never gotten destroyed by Shane. While it's obvious, Shane was better at lightweight, but don't underestimate Floyd's greatness at lightweight. Shane had the name but Floyd was ALWAYS better skilled. Shane knew what Floyd & co. knew: No jab, no chance. Shane, even back then, had ZERO jab.....he was always quicker than everyone else. What happened when Shane gets in w/ a guy that is just as quick and/or has a jab? Think Winky, Floyd, Vernon..
@bkmiz I'M NOT UNDERESTIMATING HIS GREATNESS AS A LIGHTWEIGHT I JUST KNOW AT LIGHTWEIGHT SHANE WAS JUST AS GREAT IF NOT BETTER....AND HE HAD A DECENT JAB WHEN HE WANTED TO REALLY USE IT HE JUST LIKE TO FIGHT IN MORE OF A PUNCHER/BANGER TYPE STYLE THAN BOXER/TECHNICIAN HE WAS CAPABLE OF DOING BOTH....WINKY AND VERNON WERE BIGGER LONGER GUYS U CAN HAVE ALL THE SPEED IN THE WORLD AND CAN COUNTER THAT WITH LENGTH/TIMING..WHAT MOSLEY NEEDED THAT HE NEVER TRIED TO GET BETTER IN WAS DEFENSE..
@BIGGIEBOY26....I think Shane was flashier at lightweight, but not better. Floyd fought a better crop of lightweights and made them look silly (Emmanuel Burton (Augstus) & JLC notwithstanding). I think the most impressive I had seen Shane was against Shannon Taylor, as he led the round off w/ 2 left hooks...blinding speed.
I disagree, Shane was far more puncher than he was boxer. He had a "pawing" jab and a r hand, that was it. Floyd would've picked him off real good. IMO
@bkmiz YEAH FLOYD MIGHT HAVE FOUGHT THE BETTER OPPOSITION AT LIGHTWEIGHT BUT I THINK A BOXERS SKILL IN THE RING SPEAKS LOUDER THAN THEIR RECORDS AND WHETHER U DON'T LIKE SHANE'S JAB OR NOT HE HAS SKILLS....AND MOSLEY VS MAYWEATHER AT LIGHTWEIGHT IS A FIGHT I DON'T THINK ANYONE CAN PREDICT THE WINNER....BUT IF THERE WAS A FIGHTER IN THIS ERA WHO CAN BEAT MAYWEATHER IT IS MOSLEY WHEN ITS ALL SAID AND DONE......ALTHOUGH HE WAS MORE OF A PUNCHER HE WAS CAPABLE OF BOXING AS WELL..
@BIGGIEBOY26....you're right, it's impossible to predict the winner, as it's just an opinion. However, IMO, Shane needed to "catch" Floyd in order to win. Whether they were 28 or 38, the strategy didn't change. Let's look at it this way, had Floyd not had that layoff, do you think Shane would've caught him, let alone TWICE?
@bkmiz ARE U ASKING ME WOULD SHANE HAVE CAUGHT HIM TWICE IF THEY WERE BOTH IN THEIR PRIMES WITH NO LAYOFFS?? IF NOT THEN U FORGET SHANE TOOK THE LONGER LAYOFF DUE TO BEING DUCKED BY EVERYONE EXCEPT FOR MAYWEATHER
@BIGGIEBOY26 .....I didn't forget that, my man. My point being, if both were active, fighting every 6-8 mths, do you think Floyd gets caught w/ that shot? Flinches from a jab to the chest and then get caught on the whiskers?
@bkmiz AH HA HA!! I WOULD HAVE TO SAY YES/NO....YES TO HE MAY GET CAUGHT WITH THAT SHOT WHO KNOWS BUT HE WON'T LAND THEM CONSTANTLY AND I THINK HE WOULD MIX IT UP....AND NO TO HE WOULDN'T GET CAUGHT ON HIS WHISKERS SHANE IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF TOUCHING FLOYD IF HE WANTS TO TRY AND FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT..IF HE GOES TO HIS RUNNING AWAY STYLE WHO KNOWS WE'LL HAVE TO SEE THAT 1 IN HEAVEN THEN I'LL GET BACK TO U..NEITHER FIGHTER REALLY HAS FOUGHT A FIGHTER AS TALENTED AS EACHOTHER SO ITS HARD TO SAY
@BIGGIEBOY26 Mosley has fought better competition through out his career, Prime De La Hoya, Prime Wright, Prime Cotto are all better than any single opponent Mayweather has faced besides Castillo, who many believe beat floyd in the 1st match, very close fight. Floyd is a great fighter very skilled, unfortunately his resume doesn't match up to other ATG fighters resumes, too bad, Floyd could have possibly be among the top 40 fighters of All Time had he fought all top competition out there.
@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS YEAH THATS TRUE I THINK WE ALL KNOW HE'LL NEVER HAVE A SHANE TYPE RESUME BUT HE FOUGHT SOME PRETTY GOOD FIGHTERS I WOULDN'T SAY HE HAS A SHITTY RESUME,, I'M JUST HAPPY HE FINALLY STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND FOUGHT MOSLEY AT LEAST,, I WAITED FOREVER FOR THAT FIGHT TO HAPPEN AND FOR THAT HE GAINED MY RESPECT....
@bkmiz AND NOW THAT I THINK OF IT I DON'T RECALL FLOYD EVER USING HIS JAB ALOT AT LIGHTWEIGHT/ SOME OF HIS WELTER-WEIGHT FIGHTS THE WAY HE DOES NOW OR DID IN HIS FIGHT WITH SHANE,, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT FIGHT AT LIGHT-WEIGHT..PROBABLY ONE OF THE GREAT FIGHTS IN BOXING HISTORY DO TO BOTH FIGHTERS SKILLS..
@BIGGIEBOY26 ....first off, let me be clear...Shane had mad skills..especially at lightweight. The tools that he honed were lethal. His problem was, like you said, was never a defensive fighter....he moved his head out of the way and fired back. His jab was pawing...it was his "rhythm stick"...it got him in rhythm to throw his straight right. You're right, it would've been a fight for the ages. Floyd always used his jab...b/c he was much more offensive at LW.
i remember watchin this live. didn't mosley say afterwards that he had a lot of respect for stone and that he was welcome at mosleys house anytime he came to the U.S.
ANOTHER REASON YOU DONT FUCK WITH FOO'S FROM SOUTHERN CALIFA'S...we'll give you a taste, but take too much and we'll beat your fucking ass. go back to the U.K. -STONE-

This version of Shane Mosley would have given Pacquiao hell. The current version doesn't have much of a chance IMO. Thank you for posting this! :-)

Shane was such a freak of nature. He was quite literally untouchable from 1998-2002.
FSMNoodlyAppendage 11 months ago
@FSMNoodlyAppendage He got beat in 02, and had a very close fight with De La Hoya, in 2000, he wasn't untouchable. Top 3 no doubt.

I remember watching this on TV in Barbados at the time. Vicious KO from a future hall-of-famer in his prime. Brilliant.
