The government only provides a civil law defining marriage, which can be applied to an atheist, Muslim or Jew's marriage. Civil marriage is that legal bond ,and its existed from before the enlightenment, only it has discriminated against gays. If I wanted to get married, I would get a civil marriage which then could privately be recognised by an accepting religion.

So far we have let zero immigrants become citizens through same sex marriage. It doesn't take a genius to figure out which approach is more likely to allow you in. This couple is just trying to make a bet that this law will be overturn on some moral grounds (Wouldn't hold my breath). Regardless of what you think of the law, it isn't smart to ignore more viable alternatives.

We have to get visitor's visa's to see one another every few months as we can't disclose to our government's (UK&U.S) that we are married or they wouldn't let us in as they think we are going to try live in each other's country illegally.
