  • It's fun to to record my code videos on!

  • Just would like to say that, while it does take a few minutes to finish everything with VirtualDub [~40-70 fps], it works perfectly fine. Even when hours of scouring brought me no other results.

Also, from a friendly VBA recorder to another, I'd recommend using the ffdshow codec whilst recording, it gives little if any lag at all [for me, anyway]. 99-100% speed almost all the time.

  • Why go with the second option under the Video - Frame Rate editing? Won't the third one [where it automatically adjusts the frame rate to that number] achieve the same effect?

  • @Kiptracx Well I tried that a couple years ago thinking the exact same thing, but for some reason the audio/video still wasn't synced properly. Have you tried it yourself?

  • @zipdog12 Ah.. that [the third option] is what I normally do and it works fine for me. Then again, I use different codecs so that might be part of it. That being said, thank you for this, since I was able to get it working right when it consistently crashed on me.

  • hey i was recording on of my pokemon fire red vids when one of my the video got like corruptyed or somtin, it wont play adn when i put it in a converter it says its empty, help me!

  • @SmashBrosWii1 Hmm, there's probably 1000 reasons a video can be corrupted. Check the file extension, check the codec you used and make sure it's a stable version, etc. I would suggest just re-recording, unless ALL of your videos become corrupted...

  • Let me know if this helped, and if you need a better explanation, feel free to reply and I'll get back to you. There's only so much a person can do with five hundred characters with which to use, but I'll do my best. ;D

  • I'm not sure if people are still looking for this or not, but for those with lower-end computers who can't deal with the lag while recording, I have a nice fix that you might appreciate.

Under "Start AVI Recording...", VBA has an option to "Start Movie Recording...". This movie will always be a very low file size, doesn't seem to lag at all, and can only be played back using Visual Boy Advance. The plus side? You can record AVI footage while this movie is playing back.

  • @EaglesTheGamerGuy No problem! Good luck with your LP!

  • @zipdog12 when i try to put it to msu it isnt there i download it

  • @pikachupal21 If you can't get it to work at all, just record using the Uncompressed option. Everything else should be the same.

  • @zipdog12 thanks

  • I cant install MSU properly...it says when I try to run it An error occured when copying file SCLS.INF Cannot copy file to de destination directory. I clicked retry it said installation failed then installation complete and the I can't use it to compress did I do something wrong?

  • @kyte978 Hmm, well I'm not too sure what the problem is, maybe it's your computer specifications, so I'll give you three suggestions: 1) contact the website where you downloaded the MSU Lossless codec, 2) update to a newer version, or 3) just try a new lossless codec altogether (make sure it's lossless though!) Sorry about that...

  • @zipdog12 Ok I'll try 0.6.0

  • The other one wouldn't work...so I'll try and do it without using lossless...would that work?

  • @kyte978 Well, lossless codecs capture video without losing hardly any of the original quality. You can do that if you want, or you might try looking for another trustworthy lossless codec. I personally don't think you need the codec. Recording an "uncompressed" video will make the video size huge, but it should work out after you put it through Virtual Dub.

  • @kyte978 Are you under administrator rights? If the programs are attempting to go to the Program Files, then you'll need admin rights, as limited accounts have "read-only" access to the Program Files

  • I get a message saying "Cannot start video compression: an unknown error has occured (error code -100)"

What did I do wrong? I did the things in the video...

  • @Vykerie There are many, many unknown reasons why you might get that message. One reason is that the size of the output video is not divisible by four. Make sure the new dimesions are something like "720x480" and not something like "641x427." Also, under "Xvid Configuration" (seen at 7:10) check that the "Profile @ Level" and "Encoding Type" are both the same as you see in the video. You also might just try a different codec. If you still have troubles, PM me or try Google. Good luck!

  • @zipdog12 Oh I got it now, thank you, I'm fairly certain it's because I didn't have "Multiple of 4" selected for the resizing.

  • @Vykerie Sweet, glad it worked!

  • Are these settings only outfitted for VBA or can it be used to record other things as well?

  • @BoxLineProductions You can use these settings for other video clips, but you can only record VBA footage with the recording feature on VBA, if that makes any sense...

  • How do you get MPEG- layer 3 audio codec. I kinda need it for my videos. Please reply.

  • @zeus151000 it might sound cliche and broad, but look it up on google/YouTube and find some trustworthy sites. I thought it came with Virtual Dub, but it's been so long that I don't remember exactly haha sorry about that :/

  • hey i don't have the same files as you when i extract the xvid coded

    Why?

  • @Videogamefan100 I have a different (older) version, so the files are probably different. It should still work, better if anything.

  • After I choose a title for my video, I haven't MSU losseless codec in the list... Why ?

  • @DenizMilito After you download the file make sure you install it first by double clicking. That's all I had to do, so try restarting your computer or something.

  • Yes, virtual dub works, in fact I just uploaded a video using it.

  • @Megaquint2 haha cool and did the Xvid Codec work too?

  • @zipdog12 That's what I was having problems with, since it didn't show up on the Virtual Dub compression list. The vid turned out great though. The file was just large X_X

  • @Megaquint2 hmm, well sorry about that! there's a ton of other codecs you could use next time, but I'm not sure why Xvid didn't work for you...

  • I'm having trouble with Xvid. Basically I extracted all the files I could, but none of them match yours.

  • @Megaquint2 I probably have a different version...did you get to use it in VirtualDub? Does it still work?
