Nice to see him play even for a clip, a good memory, and that vocoder harmonies fiddling all around, what a work, soft and rich forever, advanced in sounds and still easy to listen.
Wendy Carlos used a vocoder on the soundtrack for the film "A Clockwork Orange", around 1971. It was used most significantly in the completely electronic realization of "March from A Clockwork Orange (Ninth Symphony, Fourth Movement, Abridged)" writtne by L.V. Beethoven and arranged by Carlos. Rachel Elkind provided the articulation.
My Old Dream Was You... This record is brilliant I have the LP and now the CD
I like the track Sunlight on side 2 this track Herbie did the music the vocoder is by Sienhiser the S201! I would not mind having a go on this machine.
I saw Herbie work with the vocorder at a show on Mercer St. down the village N.Y.IN 1980. As the audience was spellbound by the brilliance of seeing and hearing Herbie use the vocorder in live performance....Wow , brilliant!!! the man is truly a genius.
@soakless that's because he's a musician FIRST! technology is just a tool and he (and others with actual musical talent understand that - Stevie W, Etc.) nowadays people can be "producers" without playing a single instrument.

This has got to be the best use of a vocoder. Ever!
The modern day users haven't a clue compared to herbie.
Must be played loud, and clearly on a quality sound system to appreciate. (Watch those fingers create the song...)

Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201 (Mk1 or Mk2)!!! Regarded by many as the BEST vocoder song of all-time. A timeless classic.

This is nice but ain't a patch on his early stuff. I can see where Azymuth got some inspiration for their vocoder inspired tunes.
