but if we have no magnetic field for even a small amount of time we have no protection from magnetic storms. if a massive one hits us with the magnetic field down then it will cause a power surge large enough to blow all transformers. electrical down world wide. that itself will cause billions of fatalities. back up power source only lasts a little while. =(
@xEMOxxPANDAx we will never have "no magnetic field" even when there is a reversal.. way in the future.. it will not "turn off" ..we will just have some trouble using compasses for a while.. it will not damage the earth or anyone on it

Even IF it wil switch, the only thing that will happen is disfunction of compasses, slightly higher solar radiation (NOT LETHAL), probably disfunction of satelites, that are not porotected by athmosphere. so NO end of the world by the sun in 2012 but as we all know SHIT HAPENS and we'll not know until 2012
Nasa admitted that 2012 megnetic pole shift is NOT true. They do have proof that the poles have shifted before but they said the mass of our equator compared to all the forces that hit it our earth is pretty much used to the intense heat of the sun,. If anything the way we will most likely go is global warming because of green house gases, and this whole 2012 thing is mumbo jumbo.

What the Horizon Project and others are talking about coming up in 2012 is a geographical pole shift not magnetic pole shift mostly to shift the earth about approx 30 degrees as last 3 geographical pole shift believe to have shifted appox 30 degrees, last was around 9000bc.
