Hi. my mother's hungarian, and we happen to have one of these laying around the house. unfortunately, i speak no hungarian, and have no idea how to tune this thing. Could someone help me? it looks about the same as the first picture, has 6 fretted strings, and 10 open (one set of four, and 3 sets of two), and its about 80 cm long.

Hi, it is a complex question, a lot of it is your free decision, what kind of sound territory you like and want to use.

So your choises are: primo, tenoro, basso, contrabasso citera, the citera on the first picture is a well known design it is called, "Alföldi könyökfejes"

I have the same kind at home.

First you have to categorise your strings to 3 segments:

I. melody (soprano) strings

II. basso strings

III. auxiliary strings (sound enhancing strings)

The melody strings are on the combinated (stopper) (sound playfield)

it is composed, of 2 parts, the diatonic stopper (like white piano keys), and pentatonic stopper (like piano black keys), the number of melody strings varietes, but common combos are (4 diatonic+ 3 pentaton, and 3 diatonic, 2 pentaton strings configuration) The main thing, you have to position to strings in G. All melody strings are in G, so your C (you reach this with your finger), and G (basic sound) have to be a cleanquart

Like on a guitar you reach the C note, if you put your finger on the

3rd marking on a basic G configured melody string, and this has

to be a clean quart. Every other string is configured according to

the melody strings

than we have 3 basso strings:

"little bass": it is the C note which is the 3rd marking on the basic G melody string.

"medium bass" it is the octave under the melody stringsso it is probably an A

" big bass" an octave under the C (the 3d marking of the G melody string)

And at last the enhancing strings

first enhancing string is the same as the G melody string

second enhancinh string is the upper clean quart of the melody string (again the 3rd finger marking on the melody string)

third enhancing is the upper octave of the melody strings

other enhancing strings are the upper octave of the C (again the 3rd finger marking on the melody string).

And were done.

De. Egy csomag citerahúr mostani áron 450-500 Ft. Húrvastagságtól és húrhossztól függ, ez kb. mennyi húrra elég. Ilyen citeránál kb. 3 húrt ad ki 1 csomag. A basszushúrok (gitárhúrok) darabja szintén 500 Ft körül van, lehet számolni.

Nekem van egy ilyen 16 huros amit 78-ban vettem otthon 238 forinter mert emlekeztem mikor nagyapamat es 3 nagybatyamat hallgattam jatszani es kihurcoltam Kaliforniaba. A 12 eves lanyom jatszik a zongoran, ukelelen, hegedun es gitaron, remelhetoleg O majd talan ezt is megtanulja :D.
