  • anybody know what kind of ink that is in the bottle? I hate asking this kind of shit, sounds so amatuer. lol

  • I love the speed stuff... energy. Long Live Jim Lee.

  • Came looking for inspiration but instead lost a little hope

  • @Gboythunda

LMAO!!! You and me both -_- (Look at my deviant art account immaterialwitness) and believe I still lost hope lol I don't draw comics and am trying to get into it...but this...damn.

  • 90-degree angle where the thumb theoretically meets the pinky -- just like George Bridgman said. Also, when Jim was drawing the hair, I got this sensation of relaxation, because he composed it so perfectly that it brought order to all the chaos in my life for that short while. Jim Lee's composition makes it easier for me to breathe, if that makes sense. His anatomy makes it hard for me to blink.

  • he did it in 8 minutes...Ha i could have easily done that in...8 days ):

  • The first comic i read when I was a kid was uncanny x-men #256, which a wolverine and psylocke story, that began my love of comic art and art in general. To me your the beginning of comics, Jim Lee is my Jack Kirby. Thanks for your inspiration

  • Interesting music. Where can i find it?

  • @Ristro24 its portishead, the album is "third"

  • i just started a comic book sock.

all of the character refs i used are from the hand of Jim Lee

this guy is simply the best at what he does.

Thank you Jim Lee. Thank you thank you thank you for what you have done and will do.

  • Holy mother fuck... I'm just going to go bury myself in sheets of paper now.

  • what kind of paper is? D:

  • Its either Jim Lee was rejected from heaven from being too epic. Or he sold his soul to the devil and still keeps it even when the contract is more than a year from its expiration date.

  • idk if someone has already asked but what is he using in that bottle?

  • OMG!!!!! Awesome~♥ I love Gambit :'D

    Nice Drawing~♥

  • i bet if that little splodge of paint landed somewhere else he would be like "F*******CK"

  • @theskyisfaling

He's a master... He would probably smudge that ink in a way that makes it look awesome. In some of his other videos he just puts ink in certain places of the sheet and uses a cloth or even just his finger to make something out of it, like Nightcrawler's black teleport smoke and whatnot.

  • i didnt know you could use water colour this way .

  • Funny to know Jim Lee likes Portishead, good taste.

  • so im not the only guy who listens to insane music when i draw xD thank god. lol

  • Do you know why Jim is so good? Because he studied in the mountains for years so that he could be an artistic ninja.

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST ARTISTS EVA!!! :D

  • Dude, this is so hot!

  • God Damn, I practice everyday but still suck, I have nooo idea how to improve

  • .... omg I could never do that in 8 minutes. Holdy crap XD

  • It´s a pity that Jim Lee is now Co-Publisher on DC...I would love to see him drawing X-Men again...when you´ll came to Brazil again Mr Lee? Rio fans miss you.

  • @axlkill1 troll

  • Amazing!!! I would love to see him draw Spider-Man too :D

  • Lead holder?

  • Jim is so pro it's not even funny.

  • if you can do a drawing like this in 8 minutes, your in a league of your own period. and it's my favorite X-Men character, Gambit. double bonus for me.

  • so beautiful... so amazingly talent you have... I am too late to get know you by now but glad that i have.

  • as an artist...i dont know maybe i should be angry or amazed or both....this is something that takes me a while to think off...then sketch...then draw it...then finally ink it with still some finishing which takes about 30 mins and he does it in 8 mins flat...-_-!!!..this guy is too good dammit

  • only 8min, what iz going on here?

  • he in trance

  • his drawing abilities are freakin godly

  • Jim, you are my favorite comic book artist!

  • thats not machine gun

  • I have practice by my self for 2 years, and now I'm in a art class studing the human body with a real model, maybe someday I will be as good as you master Jim! can you give me some tips?

  • as an artist still in training, this video really hurts my brain. i'm throwing chairs and tables right now. lol.

  • same here man then I think oh wait he's a god why do I care I'm never gonna be that good

  • Personally, I love seeing him ink. It's amazing to think of how tight his pencils usually look and how expressive he inks his own work. And of course how easy he makes it look.

  • A lotta artists draw like Jim Lee, but Jim Lee ALWAYS does it the best.

  • awsome...i would buy this if i had a gazilion dollars to waste on something of my chosing

  • Oh, how I wish you still penciled the X-Men.

I grew up with those books, so for me there are no other X-Men than Jim Lee's X-Men.

  • God I hate Jim Lee.

Not in a I want to kill him way, but more of a, I am totally jealous of him and always will be kinda way. ;)

  • where can i buy ink like that? like just in a squirt tube?

  • from the drugstore, it's an antiseptic.

  • probably at an arts & crafts store

  • wow, it must be nice being Jim Lee. For just 8 minutes you can make 100 bucks for this piece of art.

  • i know right...man if life were that easy.

  • Good stuff, there's a reason that man's a legend!

  • GO JIM GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that Portishead my ears detect???

  • Yes, Machine gun is awesome!

  • got any tips how I can improve my drawing videos?

  • that Gambit is HOT! Great job

  • I worship people like you with that kind of talent

  • WOuld you mind to sketch your Batman and batmobile. Full batman, the body, hands, feets etc..

  • I have trouble with drawing hair and body sometimes, could yu maybe give me some tips?

  • I amaze your Art work!! I like the Strong lines and the powerfiull looks of your characrters. It looks a little bit manga in combination with VS comic, that's so cool. :-)

  • holy shit... that's awesome! :o

  • Can anyone tell me exactly what kind of "white-out" pen that is and where I can get one?

  • I think its the Presto from Pentel

  • Thank you so much. It looks really good and I wanna try it out. :)

  • Amazing!!! Jim Lee is one of my favorite comic artists of all time. I loved Wild Cats back in the day.

  • Hahahah fantastic Jim, i hope to see this draw in your deviantart and thanks for your time .^^

  • I wonder type of playing card that was. it looks asian.

  • shit i got scared when the black ink bottle was used, i thought it smudged everything, but in the end, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! LOVE GAMBIT!

  • I wish I could draw like that

  • Only a master would be confident with the ink bottle so close to his work.

  • @paulsimage or an idiot

  • Genius.

  • amazing. @_@

  • *Drools* When the phone came into view, I kept looking at it! lol Amazing work

  • i love this! i hope you will do more voice overs. They are very helpful and..just awesome.

  • best comics artist ever. thanks for the vid.

  • Na that title is reserved for Alex Ross.

  • Bold statement.

  • well if your refering that statement its true, alex ross just knows more about the human anatomy, illustrative rendering and composition than jim lee does and thats why i believe he is the best at comic art.

  • Comment removed

  • lol i guess jim lee agrees with me after all, just playin but i understand what u are talking about and i know plenty of comic book artist its just that ross is at the top of the food chain right now.jim lee is still awesome though.

  • he always does the best gambit he and scott williams are tops this is hellacool

  • I'm watching it and I'm thinking you missed up with the ink and then just like that Gambit's throwing a card. Wow!

  • That's so sick, it's just not fair. Great job!

  • It's funny how he draws the ear and then it didn't matter lol

Can anyone please tell me what are the tools he uses? Every one of them in order?

He's still the best in my opinion. I loved it when he did the Uncanny X-Men in the early 90's and WildCATS.

  • There is NO sarcasm intended by this reply.

    - Pencil (drafting type)

    - Felt tip pen (used sharpie in the past)

    - Ink and brush (probably natural)

    - Facial tissue

    - Glue stick

    - White Out pen

I think that was all he used...

The thing is... the things he used do not matter. What most of us not not want to accept is that his skill comes from hours and hours and hours (and years) of drawing. The special part is his unique method or technique to present his style.

  • I love how you "time" yourself! ;)

  • master at life drawing with the best comic styling. The brush skills are crazy precise.

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing :)

  • X Men Origins movie stunk. Defiance is better. It's about 007 and Sabertooth saving a bunch of Jews. Really.

  • Nice!

  • Oh, and does anyone know what the first song is in this video?

  • Portishead - We Carry On

  • He's so absurdly good. I know he's been doing it for a while now, but it's still ridiculous how picture just comes from nowhere.

  • I love how you make use of everything. This is probably one of the best videos I've ever seen thus far.

  • i have almost every comic you've drawn...missing a bunch but still...you're my inspiration Jim

  • Is that a really thick pencil or a pen that he's using after the drafting pencil in the beginning?

  • Looks like a copic pen but I could be wrong.

  • just wish he'd go back to marvel and draw x-men again

  • u are my favorite artist

  • i cant get enough of your drawing videos. you need to post more!

  • Amazing, absolutely amazing! Favorite artist drawing my favorite character! Funny how that works, isn't it?

  • i think u mixed this video up with the other one this one is lo res the other one i quickened

  • This is neat ! I'm speechless

  • Wow!, this guy is massive with it! Did he learn this quick or did it take some decades ha?

  • hes been in comics for over a decade almost 2!

  • There's this new drink out that gives you amazing talent in drawing.

Jim appears to have drinken several bottles.

  • the arts and crafts fucked it up jim.

    kidding.

    you are omazing

  • wow, Jim Lee at his best :)

  • awesome as always

  • Great to see you back on here, Jim. Keep it up, man!

  • Yay one of my favorite characters! :D

  • i'll probably never be able to draw something like that in such a short amount of time. but i'll keep practicing cuz its what i love to do. good video man.

  • Great Work! Thanks for showing the sketch and drawing steps.

  • when is all star Batman&Robin vol2 coming out? joker had a cameo in vol1...is Frank Miller still working on this or Holy Terror?

  • that is so cool @-@ you did that so effortlessy and quick @-@

i have a drawing of gambit too... hope you don't mind if i post it as a video response here ^w^

  • This brings back memories of the comic+hologram card cover era lol

  • Another gem. Jim, when are you and Frank going to get another issue of Batman at the comic shop, been waiting months? Nice to hear you're a Portishead fan. Keep 'em coming.

  • keep em' coming. i have like tons of ur comics. i have 1-9 of all- star batman and my dad has some of your old ones from the early 90's

  • there we go.. a lot better speed. thanks a lot :)
