  • Wonderful! I bought a $5 cd at Wal Mart of Neil Diamond singing with Elmer Bernstein and he does a great version of this.

  • Nelson's arrangement sounds better here than it did of the version they recorded on the album

  • Sing to me Steve. Great performance of such a beautiful, classic song. Thanks.

  • I'm looking for a musical number from the Carol Burnett show's ninth season called "Tribute to Glenn Miller", also with Steve Lawence. If anyone here can upload it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Nice version, but the best I've heard is by the late Eddie Fisher, who by the way preceded Steve as the army's official singer.

  • gay

  • saw him live with eydie and old blue eyes in 1990 they were a class act thanks for posting this

  • Smooooooooooooooooooth!

  • God, I loved this guy when he was cranking out tunes for Coral, sailing big with Brill Building writers on Columbia, kicking major league butt on United Artists, and making great vocal work sound so damn effortless. For a major star, he has got to be one of the most underrated singers in the history of pop music.

  • man what a song! and boy what an arrangement!! and how great a singer is steve lawrence - a true sinatra successor! riddle crafts a perfect arrangement for this superb stylist!!

  • YOUTUBE YOU ARE THE BEST.

I THINK SL WILL BE A HIT. SIGN HIM UP.

MY MOM SAW HIM RECENTLY WITH HER MUSICA BUDS. HE IS STILL AT THIS RIDICULOUS LEVEL. I AM GOING TO FIND OUT WHERE HE IS APPEARING AND RUN TO SEE HIM PERFORM. WHAT A TREASURE.

  • I wish Sinatra had done this Riddle arrangement. His one was by johnny mandel and wasnt as good as this one. Shame Riddle never recorded it with Sinatra

  • @Russell230870 Sinatra did this and was simply marvelous..as this is too

  • That's JJ Johnson on 2nd trombone!

  • So smooth - just like velvet. Great post.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I think he sounds a lot like Frankie Boy at least he sings in the same style. Nice! Thanks meehall for this share.

    Maggan

  • I think Steve hit his peak as regards his voice about this time in career.

  • This is great, but an better version was done by Eddie Fisher. Hope someone posts that one as well.

  • he's better than sinatra !

  • @ettacatarina I agree. He's a lot better.

  • Killer enunciation.

  • Perfect and flawless. Also the Orchestra. Steve Lawrence is absolutely brilliant in this. I've seen him in concert a few times, in the last few years, and he still has that amazing voice. One of the best....

  • One of the all time greats...saw him a number of times in concert and he is just one of the best there ever was. Saw him and saw Sinatra....I prefer Steve Lawrence!

  • The best

  • His vouice is a mixture of Robert Goulet/Frank Sinatra/Matt Monroe....And this is oe of best rendition..also check out the Jane Monheit ' slow version....also the Best!!!

  • @alexanuchid Thanks for the suggestion - I checked out Jane's version and it's really sweet and wonderful! (Love this one too!)

  • cool!

  • This performance is a times less masterpiece of the art. Proto-Sinatra at its finest. Himself and, Jones, Willimas too. Darin sure, Greco allright, and why not Laine at times.

  • I once met Jack Jones on Catalina Island back in "81" and what a gentleman he was and is. As I recongnized him, he came over an spoke with me for a few minutes and then as he was leaving the restaraunt he knocked on the window outside and waved a good-by.

He is very handsome and down to earth.

Something that I never expected from someone with so much exposure.

    Real class!

  • One of the nicest versions of this Cole Porter's masterpiece.

    Nice voice and arrangement

  • We miss the artistry and impeccable genius of the "behind the scenes" sound, lighting, camera, and total production work that was so fabulous in those days. The Carol Burnett Show was one of many stellar productions. Steve Lawrence's superb performance (and Nelson Riddle's arrangement) was captured brilliantly. I love You Tube. This is great! Thanks, wickedfan1IDINA!

  • Yes Jack Jones is the singer theme Loves Boat

  • One of the best voices in music. And really easy on the eyes. Thanks for posting.

  • one of the great voices of the american song book, plus.

  • Yeah, Steve is great...and the Nelson Riddle arrangement doesn't suck either!

  • Steve sang the theme of 'Welcome To Paradise!', it's on his album "Take It On Home"

  • I wonder if this guy also sang the "Love boat" theme

  • I believe Love Boat theme was by Jack Jones

  • It was Jack Jones.

  • I've seen Steve & Eydie eight times--they are fantastic in person. Steve hasn't lost a thing--what a voice!!! Great video, great song, great singing!!!!! We desperately need more entertainment like this!!!!!!!

  • Just a random pick for you, darlin. One of the best pur voices around. Kind of a Jack Jones type.

  • Definitely a crooner. He was only featured on the Burnett Show? Cause I never heard of him....

    Thanks baby

  • Crooner, yes. A little Torm'e like also.

  • Very much so. And while we're at it let's get it out of the way Sinatra too! lol

  • I would watch Steve on Johnny Carson and he had the best pure voice of anyone on the Tonight Show. Eydie has the best voice of any girl singer I've heard, even better than June Christy

  • And this guy isn't only a GREAT singer. He's got the handsome looks to go along with the show. Annnnd...and he's as clever and witty and really smart sharp as a Senate Whip! This is one totally COOOOOOOL cat!

  • Now THIS is real singing! Done by one of the very BEST ~ Mickey "Blue Eyes" Diamond! ... Oooops, I mean Steve Lawrence!

  • I think that Steve and Eydie by themselves are great, indivually they have some of the best voices in the business. I don't like them at all together, the quality goes out the window and the cute comes in and it's just a novelty act.

Having Nelson Riddle write this chart was a great move, no singer sounds better than with his charts!

  • Steve & Eydie are simply legends of their time! What a pair of talents they are, both individually & as an act together. They should be an inspiration to anyone coming up through the ranks in the world of showbusiness. I know as a performer myself, no-one has had a bigger impact on me than Steve Lawrence! He's a vocal master of the likes never to be seen again! Sensational....

  • I agree with you all -- S&E are UNDERAPPRECIATED by the media. I have loved Steve and Eydie's singing and comedy since I was little. I finally got to see them in concert in 1990 (I think) when they opened for Frank's Chivas Regal Tour at Joe Louis Arena. What a magical night!

  • This performance is a further clue that Steve and Eydie are STILL the finest interpreters of the American songbook today. They are national treasures.

  • SL at his best with a BIG assist from Nelson Riddle! Bravo!

  • Tanks for posting just great ..

  • Steve and Eydie are two of the most under rated singers around. They're both fabulous!

  • I just adore and respect Steve and Eydie both. They're incredible talents who are underrated which is too bad. I have always listened to Sinatra and love his music dearly. I grew up in a household where both parents were fans. I think I prefer S&E even more than I do Frank, as I own more of their CD's.

  • his comedy is as good if not better. just love him but adore EYDIE!! thanks for this great posting. let's hope they do another show!!!

  • Doesn't get any better than Steve singing a tune!
